Perfect!!! The course is organized and the content is well presented, making it an all-round user-friendly experience for the student. It is a modular style course which means that you complete one section after another, with motivating quiz questions after every module. This was a perfect system for me personally because I am not a big fan of having to take one big important test at the end of a course. Instead, Uni Prep grades you as you go. It was my first time doing an online course but didn’t have any difficulties. There is also tutor support if you need it. I needed help a few times and the responses I received were professional and helpful. Also, the feedback from tutors on submitted assignments is very helpful and very valuable. I found the grammar section was definitely an eye-opener for me because I discovered and learned so much about my own language that I never thought even existed. This really helped me start to understand what learning English is like from a student’s perspective. I would highly recommend Uni Prep to anyone wanting to do TEFL online.

I’m not a person who normally gives a one-star review, but by the looks of it, I’m also not the only person with deep grievances with The TEFL Academy Dublin. And I just can’t fathom why this company has so many excellent reviews on other TEFL review websites. I have also experienced issues using the Level 5 TEFL certificate issued by this company because the organizations they claim accredit them – QUALIFI, Ofqual, AQC, TQUK, and the DEAC – are only regulatory boards and are not accreditation bodies. If I wanted to work in the UK, I’d stand a good chance with these brand names listed on my certificate. As it stands though, every single teaching job I’ve applied for overseas has never heard of any of them. The TEFL Academy is not an accredited school outside of the UK. So now I will just need to swallow the $400 I spent on their Level 5 course and take a course that is internationally recognized. I’ve been recommended to take the teflonlinepro.com course because they are fully accredited by ACTEFLC and several employers mentioned this accreditation body in my interviews. I really can’t see how the TEFL Academy has such great reviews on other platforms when people can’t use their certificate for teaching overseas. It all smells like one big smelly scam to me.

Accreditation Watchdog: The TEFL Academy vs. TEFL Online Pro, submitted by The Trusted TEFL Reviews TEFL Watchdog.

Yesterday afternoon, The TEFL Watchdog decided to contact, via telephone, both The TEFL Academy and TEFL Online Pro, to see how their (virtual) face-to-face customer service support measures up against the scrutiny of some basic questioning.

We took the role of prospective students, interested in what each course has to offer.

We chose these two particular TEFL/TESOL course providers because one is the highest-rated program on Trusted TEFL Reviews, and the other is notorious for misleading its customers with regard to false accreditation claims and is notorious for launching clandestine attacks on its TEFL TESOL business competitors.

The former: teflonlinepro.com

The latter: theteflacademy.com

1. TEFL Online Pro.
In under a minute, The TEFL Watchdog was connected with a TEFL Online Pro office staff member – willing and able to answer any questions that we had. At the end of our conversation, they asked us if we had any further questions for them. The entire conversation was polite, knowledgeable, and professional.

2. The TEFL Academy.
After waiting for more than 5 minutes, we were finally connected to a TEFL Academy staff member that seemed like it was their first day on the job. When they were unable to answer any of our questions – the exact same questions that we put to TEFL Online Pro – they then redirected our phone call to a second TEFL Academy staff member, that also came across as clueless. Both staff members apologized for not being able to sufficiently answer our basic questions – basic questions that any prospective TEFL student would consider rudimentary.

One of our questions asked was, “Are your courses accredited?”

TEFL Online Pro answered in the affirmative.

The TEFL Academy also answered in the affirmative but provided us with false information.

The TEFL Academy stated that its courses are accredited by Ofqual and TQUK. They also mentioned a few other organizations which apparently accredit them. When The TEFL Watchdog noted that the organizations quoted are only regulatory bodies and not accreditation bodies, the second TEFL Academy staff member put the phone down on us!

Conclusion:

1. In the event that something goes wrong with your TEFL/TESOL course, or if you just need some support, our money would be on TEFL Online Pro to fix the issue and/or find a solution. If you are wanting to take a fully accredited and internationally recognized TEFL/TESOL certification course program, TEFL Online Pro provides this service.

2. In the event that something goes wrong with your TEFL/TESOL course, or if you just need some support, our money would not be on The TEFL Academy to fix the issue and/or find a solution. If you are wanting to take a fully accredited and internationally recognized TEFL/TESOL certification course program, The TEFL Academy does not provide this service. If you ever needed to contact The TEFL Academy directly, via telephone, our first-hand impression is that you will likely be lied to and likely locked in a never-ending telephone loop – passed from one uninformed staff member to another.

Final assessment:

The TEFL Academy: 3/10

The TEFL Academy came over as evasive and disorganized.

TEFL Online Pro answered all our questions in a polite and detailed manner.

The TEFL Academy dodged questions and ultimately put the phone down on us.

Accreditation Watchdog UPDATE: 18th May 2021.

Trusted TEFL Reviews (again) tried reaching The TEFL Academy, to ask basic questions which TEFL Academy students would likely need to ask, should things go south with their TEFL Academy course.

Again, after waiting on hold for approx. five minutes, we were put through to a company sales rep, that failed to answer any of our questions.

When we persisted in our questioning, we were duly informed that The TEFL Academy would no longer be answering our questions.

All we asked, was which accreditation body accredits the TEFL Academy courses.

When we did eventually get through to somebody who was willing to answer our question, the young gentleman on The TEFL Academy switchboard relayed to us that The TEFL Academy is accredited by Ofqual.

When we confirmed for this particular gentleman that OfQual is a regulatory body and not an accreditation body, he decided to put the phone down on us.

It was a straightforward question, responded with a less than straightforward response.

Extremely shady behavior.

Try it for yourselves: contact The TEFL Academy’s main customer line (+353 1554 62 27) and see how you feel about their customer service experience. Oh, and please ask them about their accreditation. They begin by claiming such and such accreditation, but the moment you question the legitimacy of those accreditation claims, they hang up on you and block your telephone number.

If you are wanting a personal TEFL TESOL course experience, and one that is fully accredited, Trusted TEFL Reviews recommends avoiding The TEFL Academy.

We also (again) contacted TEFL Online Pro – teflonlinepro.com – and they came over as transparent and ready to answer all of our asked accreditation questions.

My 4.5/5 star rating for this fully accredited TEFL/TESOL program.

When I took the 120-Hour TEFL/TESOL course with teflonlinepro.com (December 2024) they were the top-rated TEFL/TESOL program, and I see that they still are. It was obvious to me why this is so because when I was on the course, I had a very positive experience.

For one thing, the course price was much more affordable than some of the other high-end programs. I did ask Paul why and he said it is because tefl online pro is largely an online company and they don’t have the expensive office overheads that some of the other programs have. I did compare the tefl online pro offering to the more expensive online TEFL/TESOL courses and the offer is identical, except for the cheaper price of this program.

I thought the course was very well written and very engaging. There was also support available from 24-Hour tutors, that got back to me very quickly when I had a question. This was super impressive.

When I finished the course there weren’t any unnecessary wait times for the certificate, and I also received a letter of recommendation. Jennifer was such a great help with her expert support when I said I needed help finding a teaching job online. It didn’t take long to start teaching and I have her to thank for the work she did proofreading my resume, providing tips on pay and working conditions, preparing for an interview, and informing me about which online companies were best to avoid and which were the ones she recommended I apply to.

My only criticism of the program is that I sometimes needed support on Sundays, but the school is closed on Sundays. This meant that if I asked for something on Sunday morning, I had to wait until Monday morning for a reply.

Other than this though, I am so impressed with the TEFL/TESOL course offered by this company and it was an awesome investment.

I was pretty satisfied with this distance-learning teaching English course despite initially having concerns about taking it online as opposed to taking it in class. I guess it’s optimal to take any education study onsite but you won’t miss out on so much if you do take it online. One of the things with the Bridge course which stood out for me was how organized everything was. You have a start date and a projected completion date and in between, there is a course tutor to manage your time and access to each of the lessons. The ability to interact with other students was also a good aspect of the course. It did take a while to receive the certificate but I put this down to how busy my course date was. I’ve used the certificate for job interviews and haven’t run up against any brick walls so far. My only complaint is the course fee. It’s too high. Reduce the tuition fee and then I think Bridge will have one of the best TESOL courses around.

I have ten-plus years of experience in the field of education and I have taken many training courses during this time. I’m not someone who is easily impressed and I don’t usually write reviews. The training experience that I had with TEFL Online Pro has made me break this rule as it was an all-around top-notch training program experience. My tutor did a fabulous job at answering all my questions, the feedback on my lesson plan assignments was detailed and personal, and the course was a genuine delight to study through. The course includes many examples of interactive activities and games that I use regularly with my students and I just thought that the way grammar is presented and explained took the boredom out and dare I say it made grammar seem appealing and interesting. The quoted course price is the total price which isn’t the standard in the TEFL training industry as I’ve read reports of some programs charging hidden fees. The accredited international TEFL TESOL certificate arrived within a week and also came with a signed letter of recommendation from the TEFL Online Pro school director. I’ve never really liked using the term ‘The Best’ because one person’s nectar can be another person’s poison. However, in this case, I’m proud to openly admit that this 120-hour TEFL Online Pro course was exceptional from enrollment to graduation.

I now know why TEFL Online Pro has won awards for its TEFL/TESOL courses.

Here are a few outstanding positives of the course:

1. I always (and I mean always) got a response from them in only a couple of hours after sending off an email or private message through the course study area. Sometimes, the responses were immediate. I’ve never experienced this level of attentiveness from any other company.
2. The course is very very good – covering everything you need to know about teaching English. And more. They also give you lots of free activity games to use later on with your students.
3. I only paid $200 US for the course, inclusive of everything.
4. My tutors were the perfect online teachers, who guided me through the course whenever I got stuck. Lauren and Michael alternated time slots so there was always someone there at the other end in case I had a question, or two, or three
5. The information you learn in the course is presented through interesting visuals and you are then tested on how much you have absorbed the information with fun multiple-choice quizzes.
6. There are two lesson plan coursework assignments (Modules 6 and 11) which were nice additions to the course because they showed me how to condense the right amount of information into a class and showed me exactly how it should be presented. I kept the templates and used them for all my classes.
7. The certificate looks great and includes the ACTEFLC Fully Accredited logo. I was impressed with how the certificate looked, and so was my now-present language school employer.
8. When TEFL Online Pro says they help with job support, they mean it. Caitlin worked with me on my resume and Paul worked with me on the logistics of finding work. They weren’t able to physically arrange job interviews for me, but they did everything else.
9. The first job I interviewed for I got the job. The school asked me a ton of questions and because the course was so informative and relevant I didn’t have any issues answering those questions.
10. TEFL Online Pro offers lifetime job support, which is great to know when I want to travel somewhere else to teach.

Any negative points or room for improvement?

I honestly can’t think of any right now. The program delivered on all its promises and the result of taking the course was a very well-paid teaching job in the end. I have absolutely nothing to complain about and I would recommend TEFL Online Pro in a heartbeat.

My experience is similar to Paula’s, the person who yesterday reviewed the International TEFL Academy. The difference with my own experience is that I was completely satisfied with the course and the support received, but I also see now that TEFL Online Pro offers the same course for a fraction of the price. I guess you are just paying for the privilege of having the University of Toronto logo on the certificate. Apart from this, I haven’t been able to discern any significant differences between the OISE University of Toronto TEFL course and the TEFL Online Pro course, apart from the price difference.

What I can write is that the OISE University of Toronto TEFL course is a serious TEFL course. Not one of those TEFL mills that I also read exists. The course is also, to some extent, self-paced. What I mean by this is that you are given a certain amount of time to finish the course, but in between, you can pretty much study at your speed and at the times that suit your personal or professional schedule. Excellent support is provided and Teach Away will be there for you when you need any help with job information. This is why I recommend this program and this is why I am awarding it the maximum 5-star rating score. If they lowered the price, I would have given the program an infinite number of stars

The best thing about online TEFL learning is that you can take the course from anywhere in the world. All you need is a decent internet connection and your laptop, tablet, or smartphone. At no point during my TEFL studies was I asked to travel to a brick-and-mortar place to complete any paperwork or enroll. The entire process is managed online. I enrolled online. I completed the course online. I received my certificate in a PDF file (you can opt for a hard copy certificate but that has to be posted to a physical address) and I received my international job guidance online. I took the 120-Hour TEFL Online Pro course at home, during COVID-19, but I could just as easily have taken it in Timbuktu (not sure what their wifi connection speeds are like there though).

After completing the course and receiving my accredited TEFL certificate, I taught online. I found it exhilarating and convenient because it meant not having to travel anywhere for my classes. My students were fine and all, but it was difficult getting used to the time difference. And classroom management was a really big issue in some of my classes. So I quit my job teaching Japanese students and now I teach predominantly to students wanting to learn English in the Middle East. The money is better, the students are far more motivated, and there isn’t such a big time difference between the time zones.

Because my family is from Italy, I managed to wag a flight over to Milano and I’ve practically been holed up here for the past six months – teaching and saving money.

When it is possible to fly over to Asia, I’ll probably reconnect with my Japanese students again as there won’t be the same time zone issues I experienced outside of Asia. I’ll still keep a hold of some of my Qatari students though as well.

What I love about all this is that I can travel AND work at the same time.

TEFL Online Pro has been instrumental in making this lifestyle happen for me and I just want to give out a big thanks to everyone at the school!

Having recently completed the TEFL Online Pro 120-Hour Online TEFL, I can confirm for anyone reading this that this is a top-notch program. It’s obvious to me why they have won the Teachers’ Choice Award for the past two years.

Compared to similar programs offering the 120-hour TEFL course online, TEFL Online Pro is priced mid-market I would say. This isn’t one of your crazy cheap TEFL courses but also isn’t crazy expensive either. Plus, you do get a lot for the $299 price tag, and they don’t try to either up-sell you or nickel and dime you; meaning no difficult conversations by the end of the course

For the $299 I paid, I received full access to the course and I had my tutor who was available throughout the whole time that I studied. The course also includes international job guidance services and of course international certification. They also issued me with a great-looking letter of recommendation, which I have already made good use of.

For the past two months, since completing the course, I’ve been teaching online. It’s not something I plan on doing long-term, but it will do for the time being. I’ve been liaising with Paul from the TEFL Online Pro office to help find me teaching work in South Korea, and he has been as helpful and quick with replies as my tutor (Claire) was when I was studying for the TEFL certification. I’ve already sent off all my documents and now I’m just waiting for the paperwork to be completed then I’ll be traveling to Seoul to begin a new chapter in my life. I’ve been told that it can take anywhere up to four months for the paperwork to go through, so I’m just waiting on the employment agency in Seoul now. The good news is that last week I received the all-clear on the documents that I submitted to them and the school confirmed for me that I will be on a slightly higher starting salary because of my TEFL experience.

TEFL Online Pro has completely delivered everything they promised and I am truly pleased that I chose to do my international TEFL certification through their program. Top marks to them and a solid recommendation from me.

The TEFL Online Pro 120-hour course is a serious course for serious teachers. It’s not overly difficult, but it is focused and doesn’t waste your time. It covers a wide range of issues teachers face when working abroad, various classroom situations, and essential subjects, and provides valuable background, industry, and in-country information. The course sessions are well-presented and thorough. They are engaging and written for maximum value – not a lot of unnecessary storytelling, etc., which is nice when you’re on a mission. Every word matters in this course. Not once did I think, “I already know this stuff” or get bored or feel as though my time was wasted. Just do it, you won’t be sorry.
