Best TEFL/TESOL Accreditation in 2026 | Trusted TEFL Reviews.

When I started as an English teacher and was interviewing for jobs, I noticed that some employers paid particular interest in which organization had accredited my TEFL certificate.

Thankfully, I had chosen a TEFL certification program that was fully accredited by a reputable accreditation body. The result of this is that I have never been turned down from a job position because of the accreditation status of my TEFL TESOL certificate.

When I co-started trustedteflreviews.com, I began to notice that some companies were making bold claims about their accreditation status that simply didn’t add up.

Two clear examples of this:

1. A company claims to be “Fully Accredited” but created the accreditation website to give the impression of being “Fully Accredited”.
2. A company claims to be “Fully Accredited” but is, in fact, only regulated by the organizations by which it claims to be accredited.

I also noticed that the companies falsely claiming “Fully Accredited” status regularly spread misinformation about reputable accreditation companies.

There are three types of TEFL accreditation:

1. Fully Accredited.
2. Accredited.
3. Unaccredited.

You should choose a course from a provider that offers Fully Accredited courses.

The most reputable and well-known international (Fully Accredited) accreditation bodies are (in alphabetical order) ACCET, ACTEFLC, OISE – University of the Toronto Faculty of Education, TESL Canada, and the University of Cambridge’s English Language Assessment:

If a program is Fully Accredited, by one of the above bodies, it is guaranteed that your certificate will be recognized for all online and international teaching English jobs.

If a program is only Accredited, it means that there is a large question regarding the international recognition of the certificates that it awards.

If a program is Unaccredited, you will have very little hope of getting any type of teaching English job.

There are 54 Online TEFL/TESOL certification course programs currently listed on Trusted TEFL Reviews.

Not the cheapest TESL course but absolutely worth it. This is how I would sum up the TESL training course I took through the University of Toronto remote learning program.

The process of enrolling was straightforward, as was the process of making my way through the study materials. I was worried the course might be too difficult to take online but it wasn’t complicated at all. There is also help on hand from experienced online tutors if you need it. I didn’t require that much help I’m happy to report. Still, I did have questions when my coursework was returned marked and I was very satisfied with the overall feedback.

I’m going to take the plunge and travel to teach in South America at the beginning of 2026.

In the meantime, I’m content teaching English online and gaining more experience while I hone this new craft. So far, all is going well and I am gradually taking on more and more students.

I’d recommend the TESL course through the University of Toronto in a heartbeat. It’s not the cheapest TESL course out there but surely must be one of the best. I thought so anyway.

Course content not only covers how to teach English but also how to manage students and how to cope with difficulties in the classroom. This classroom management is bound to come in handy in the future as I’m sure not all my future students will be as well-behaved as the ones I’m currently teaching. On the whole, I find language students to be well-behaved and motivated. Definitely, be a completely different experience if you have ever taught in the state school system. I haven’t but I’ve read horror stories from teachers who spend most of their class time disciplining students. ESL is different because most students are paying for the lessons and have a solid motivation to progress.

I really liked this course and I really like teaching ESL. Teaching ESL gives you a real sense of making improvements in the lives of your students. There are of course a few bad apples but generally teaching ESL is a cakewalk. I thought the ontesol course prepared me for most situations I have and will experience as an ESL teacher.

What I valued above all else in this course was the detailed attention to the marking of my coursework assignments. Instead of receiving a pass or fail notification, the feedback went into detail about how I could further improve on the work I had submitted. This was especially poignant when applied to the lesson plan assignments as I could see where there would be room for improvement. I can’t overestimate enough how it is important to be able to create logically written lesson plans. Even if you are unsure of the subject matter, a well-crafted lesson plan will divide the class time into manageable sections and this essentially means that you can have 5 or 6 lesson plans contained within one lesson plan. I learned about Warmers, Presentation, Practice, Production, and Coolers. I never teach a lesson now without a prepared lesson plan and my students appreciate this for two reasons:

1. It breaks down the lesson into relatable sections.
2. It demonstrates that I have planned for my classes.

I’ve learned the hard way that students absolutely hate it when teachers come to class unprepared.

I don’t think that any TESL course can truly teach you everything and prepare you for all teaching scenarios, but this course taught me almost everything that I needed to know to start out as an ESL teacher. TESL training is, in my opinion, an ongoing learning experience- both for the students and the teacher.

OISE University Toronto TEFL is a very good teacher training program. The enrollment process was pretty seamless. I got signed up and I was able to start classes the same week. The school covers everything to do with the TESL course and Teach Away then offer you professional advice regarding teaching job placement. The classes are all online and self-paced, so I was able to study at my own pace as opposed to a regular classroom environment. The tutors were good and very helpful. In moments that needed something, they did their best to get back to me. Also, the school staff is very good at getting your problems solved. I had an issue where because of a last-minute “request” from my employer I had to temporarily swap from day shifts to night shifts at my regular job and this made it really difficult for me to focus my brain on studying, so I asked if I could take a break from the course for a few weeks until my work schedule was back to normal again. Toronto TEFL understood my predicament and froze my course access for me until I was ready to restart my course. I worked the night shifts, contacted the school to let them know I was ready to start again, and they unfroze my account for me. All without any request for money or complaints from their end. Regarding teaching work, I’m still working in my current (not teaching) job and I hope to travel to Europe in September where I plan on settling down for a while. I recommend this school.

I work full-time and have been out of college since 2002. I always wanted to take the TESL but always put it off because of scheduling conflicts and because I haven’t been ready to travel overseas for a while now because of a personal injury. OISE University of Toronto TEFL classes are great for students who work full-time and need flexible time for study. It was possible for me to study in the evenings, early mornings, and at weekends and doing this for a month really wasn’t that demanding or stressful. This self-paced study when you can method of learning was absolutely key to me a) finding the time to take the course and b) passing the course with a really high grade. The work is challenging but not impossible. If you complete all the assignments and read the online materials, you should have no problem passing. It is important to keep yourself free from distractions though as a few times, I had to shut myself in my room to really focus and complete the work I had set out to do. My advice is not to create an unrealistic study time schedule. Keep it within what is realistically possible and you will be fine. Great tutor, great support, and a great course.
