Is TEFL Institute Legit? Well, yes and no.

For the Yes camp: I paid for my course online, without issue. Shortly after paying, I received notification of my course access and how to access the course. It’s easy to login and you can study as you go – a popular study method and I can see why. So it isn’t a scam. If it was, I wouldn’t have got my course access after I paid. The course is designed in a way that you read content and then complete multiple-choice questions (after each module). You also need to complete essays and submit those to be graded. When you graduate, you are reminded that you need to purchase your course certificate, which was a surprise to me, and then, on paper, you are a fully qualified TEFL teacher.

For the No camp: The course content was very disappointing. TEFL Institute run a flashy website that looks great. Once you cross over to the study area, it’s a bit like seeing how the sausage is made. It’s clunky and I spotted many spelling mistakes and general grammatical errors in the (very long) module text content. It’s accredited, but not fully accredited, which may present issues down the road. Whether this factor does or not, I will find out as time progresses.

The answer to whether TEFL Institute is legit is a mixed one. It is and it isn’t. If I were to choose a TEFL course again, I probably wouldn’t choose TEFL Institute again.
