Excellent content. I couldn’t be more happy with the result! The information, materials, and structure were perfect for me. The first time taking a course online and won’t be the last. I have had nothing but a positive experience with University of Toronto TEFL, enrolling in their flagship TEFL certification course online in November 2025 – completed in December 2025.

It baffles me why some students complain about the price of the course when they should be viewing it as an investment. I blame the dirt-cheap ones that charge $20. Does anyone in their right mind really think they are going to have top-notch training and excellent job prospects with one of those courses? Of course they aren’t.

The course was very user-friendly and, as you can probably imagine, went into depth. This isn’t a TEFL mill program that’s going to automatically pass you and send you a cheap-looking certificate.

The certificate/specializations look great on my résumé and will prove to be career-changing.

The course was relevant to my needs and will be a huge help for me in my career. Every instructor that I dealt with was clearly qualified to teach the subject. They made my learning experience positive and productive. I found that the way that they have their modules set up it made it quite easy to learn the course material. I had very few problems and when I did they were always right there to help me out and answer all of my questions. They are expensive, that’s true, and I understand that this program is not for everyone. But when you consider what I got for what I paid I consider them a very good value. I feel like every dollar that my parents gave them was money well spent.

I enjoyed taking the course. I felt like I learned a lot. The homework assignments were a bit confusing sometimes. The assignment was always related to the topics covered by the lessons, but I did not always know exactly what was expected by the graders to demonstrate that I understood the material. It all worked out in the end, but the course discussed how people learn by modeling. I think they could have modeled some of their homework assignments. Those who run the course are very serious about teaching. If someone is looking to go overseas to teach, I think this course will help them. I work in a completely different industry, but I have been involved in international business travel for the last 25 years. I don’t know if I will ever teach in an international school, but I am glad I took the course.

Great course! Pricier than others, but don’t let that put you off. It provided me with all the tools I will need when I begin teaching English. OISE TEFL has a number of tutors that will support you along the way and answer any questions you have. The course is geared toward teaching adults but I believe you can pay for additional courses which cover teaching younger learners. I had as long as I wanted to complete the course because there isn’t a set start and end date to the course. My only regret is I went too quickly through the first few modules until I found my pace and I wish I hadn’t because I missed out on some important content in those first few modules. The course has opened the door for me to teach English anywhere in the world.

After reading other reviews on Trusted TEFL Reviews regarding this course provider, I thought I’d do one here as well.

The course was very informative. It gave me a clearer idea of what it takes to be an ESL teacher.

Going into the course I had no idea how it is possible to teach English to another person when I don’t know their language. I couldn’t understand how it could be managed. This program shows you exactly how to do that.

I also didn’t understand that ESL isn’t just for beginners. Students with higher English language skills also want/need to learn English. This program taught me how to teach English to all the main learner levels – Beginner to Advanced.

My father purchased the course for me for my birthday and it was possibly the most useful present I’ve ever received. Because my father knows someone working at the university, I also got a reasonable discount; it didn’t cost an arm and a leg, and I knew I was in a safe pair of hands. I am pleased my father chose this school for my TEFL certification. Having looked at other comparable schools offering the TEFL in Canada (specifically in Toronto and Vancouver, where most of the Canadian TEFL schools are located) it was obvious to me that the University of Toronto TEFL and Teach Away offer a far superior learning experience and postcourse support.

It could have taken up to 6 months to complete the course, but I needed just a month and a half. The first month was taken up by the methodology part of the online segment, and then the remaining two weeks were spent completing the teaching practice segment. The online segment was thorough, and my online tutor was excellent. She encouraged me to continue when my motivation fell and she responded with constructive feedback when I sent off my course modules for marking. When I finished the course I was connected with Teach Away (the sister company of the University of Toronto TEFL). They helped me get my resume up to par and provided me with an exhaustive list of online schools they recommend teaching for. I honestly don’t have anything negative to write about my University of Toronto/Teach Away experience.

The OISE TEFL course through Teach Away was definitely on the pricier side, which is likely due to their affiliation with the University of Toronto and their downtown office, but the quality of the course and the level of support I received made it worth it. The materials were well-structured, the platform was easy to use, and any questions I had were answered quickly and professionally. It’s a solid choice if you’re looking for a reputable, academically backed TEFL certification. I recommend it.

This has been an encouraging and motivating course in which I have enjoyed learning about all the different facets of teaching English to online and in-person students, as well as discovering more about the many places where it is possible to teach English. It’s pretty amazing that I can travel the world and earn money by teaching the language I was raised with. The stand-out from the course for me were the activities that the course recommends you use in your individual and group classes. These are so good because they show how you can teach grammar and still make the class interesting and even entertaining for your students. I learned in the course how this is really important to maintain student interest and motivation. It was also beneficial to learn that most teacher books have set step-by-step lesson plan instructions, so even if you are unfamiliar with a specific topic, you can still plan a good lesson around that topic. I’ve also understood that TEFL can’t be learned just in one or two months and the course doesn’t claim to be able to teach you everything in this short time. Instead, they teach you the fundamentals you need when setting out, and then you will pick up more and more knowledge and skills as you further develop as a teacher. The activities will definitely make a difference in my teaching, and I am sure I will have a chance to use the material and resources we have been given in this course. I don’t have any plans at present to travel overseas, so I’m currently teaching a few online classes during the week in tandem with my full-time job commitments. I am really enjoying the process of teaching English online so far. Thank you

I completed the 120-hour course in teaching English as a foreign language. I chose this particular program because I’m a Toronto local and it just worked out easier for me to take the OISE TEFL Course. It was 100% online, but I thought it would be useful having the brick/mortar contact option just in case I needed to contact someone in person. In the end, I never did need to take up this option, but it was comforting to know that it was there if required. It was a really insightful course and was manageable to do as I had a lot of time to complete the course. Overall I would definitely recommend OISE for the TEFL qualification if you are an independent learner. The only reason why I would give it 4/5 stars is that sometimes the tutors were quite slow at replying – other than that all was great!

I enjoyed the course! An expensive TEFL course, but on the other hand worth the extra investment IMO. It was informative and I learned many new things: a) the use of multimedia in the classroom, incorporating YouTube and Vimeo; b) I also learned about the importance of the Learn By Play school of thought, including the use of activities and games; c) I also learned how to effectively present new language and how to present and practice grammar topics effectively. In summary, this course was full of helpful information which was packed into easy-to-digest modules. I also had help from my very own personal tutor, who gave support and advice along the way. My only complaint about the course was that sometimes it would focus too heavily on grammar, but I suppose that this can’t be avoided in a TEFL course. I do try to steer away from too much grammar teaching emphasis when I’m teaching (online) English now, but it’s reassuring to know that I have the relevant knowledge when it is requested. From my experience though most students just want to have a conversation and be corrected when they make any mistakes. Might be different if you are teaching at an in-person language school. OISE University of Toronto TEFL was a great experience! Absolutely no regrets.
