I feel so conflicted writing this review because on the one hand I loved the course and it gave me confidence to imagine myself teaching in an actual classroom. On the other hand, it’s been two months since the course finished and I still haven’t gotten the certificate. Every time I write Premier TEFL, they assure me its been sent – only for me to reach out to them again and in my most polite way ask them to please check, etc. and send it to me because I urgently need it for job interviews. Reaching out to Premier TEFL is a slow process. You are allotted a ticket in the numbered system that doesn’t give you any information about how long you can expect a response. I’m tearing my hair out because it’s been too long and I need to get moving with my job search. My hope is that Premier TEFL reads this and solves the issue for me. I thought the course was very good – no problems with that.

It covers lots of ground and I learned more than I was expecting. However, there were some issues. The quality begins to taper off around the middle of the course. It felt like the person writing the course lost the enthusiasm to continue on the same level and it shows. This was further noticeable by the needless spelling mistakes and the grammar errors I picked up on. You can call me nit-picky, but I think that a course intended for people hoping to go into EFL teaching should be without these failings. It also took a long time to receive any feedback on my coursework. When the feedback came, it was subpar at best. I don’t think my tutor read my submissions. More realistic is that they simply emailed me back a template response.

Despite these shortcomings, I passed the course and received my TEFL certificate much quicker than I had expected – expectations based on some of the previous reviews of this program on TTR. The hard-copy certificate is still on my bedroom wall as I’ve only ever used the electronic version for job interviews, etc. The certificate looks professional and authentic and has served its purpose so far.

I expected the course to be much more thorough. I completed the 120-hour course in less than 10 hours. I am going to start volunteering virtually to tutor in ESL for a nonprofit and they accepted the certification so it’s completely legitimate. I have experience teaching and tutoring so a lot of the content was familiar to me before taking the course. If you have no teaching experience, go with another program. If you come from a background similar to mine, this will be able to get you in the door.

There was no feedback or guidance whilst doing the course and emails routinely went unanswered. The course looks outdated with too much emphasis on theory!!! I wish they had given feedback because I felt blind going through the course. If I had to do my TEFL all over again I wouldn’t choose to take this course. Hopefully, if Premier TEFL is reading my review, they will rethink how they interact with their customers. There is potential in the course – I did learn some important things about teaching – but without the support from the side of Premier TEFL, it’s difficult to judge for yourself if you are heading in the right direction or not.

Reasonable course. I have completed courses online before so I do consider myself a fair judge of distance-learning training courses as a whole. There were some glaring spelling and grammar mistakes in some of the text. It is a vast course (120 hours) to get through though so I wasn’t that shocked there were some mistakes made. All that is needed is for a proofreader to spend a weekend going through it and that should eliminate the errors. It was a pleasant study-when-you-want-to course. No time-constrictive study times and no pressure to complete coursework by a certain hour of the day. If you really put the time and effort in I think you could finish the whole course in a couple of days. It took me longer (3 weeks) because I was making notes while I went through each module. I can’t say the course blinded me with its awesomeness as some of its graduates claim. It did a reasonable job of conveying TEFL knowledge and TEFL practice theory, which was good enough for me.

Most important for me is I’ve had no problems during interviews for teaching jobs when I say I took the TEFL through this TEFL company. This is your run-of-the-mill TEFL course. Some negative mentions but overall mainly positive.

When I decided to do my TEFL course I didn’t know which program would be the right fit for me. This was also before I stumbled upon this review’s website. Perhaps if I had stumbled across it earlier then I might have chosen a different TEFL program. As it was, I chose Premier TEFL. Everything was straightforward. I enrolled online – paying without needlessly having to complete a load of arbitrary forms – and on the same day, I received my log-in details in which I could access my course studies area. IMO the course is very nicely designed with the student in mind. It is text-heavy, but I’m someone who likes reading through texts and reading diagrams. Personally, I think any course that relies entirely on video tutorials is just a lazy tuition program. At the end of each chunk of text/diagrams, there was a quiz to fill in. This, I thought, was a fun and effective way of testing knowledge. There were also assignments that I had to complete and I also enjoyed these. Overall I would recommend the Premier TEFL course for anyone considering a career change.

TEFL Affiliate Marketing Scam

The TEFL Affiliate Marketing Scam is a massive issue within the TEFL industry.

Every month, thousands of TEFL students get conned out of their hard-earned savings via false advertising and misleading information.

What is affiliate marketing?

“Affiliate marketing is an advertising model in which a company compensates third-party publishers to generate traffic or leads to the company’s products and services. The third-party publishers are affiliates, and the commission fee incentivizes them to find ways to promote the company.” – Investopedia.

This means that in an ideal world, a TEFL graduate promotes the TEFL program they took online (because they genuinely thought it was excellent and useful) and in return, they receive a commission from the TEFL program.

Why is it a scam?

The TEFL industry is highly competitive, with big money to be made from selling and promoting TEFL courses, and this has created a niche market for affiliate marketing.

Because of the large sums of money to be made, bad business practices are the rule rather than the exception.

Some common examples of the TEFL Affiliate Marketing Scam:

1. An affiliate marketer who has never taken a TEFL course wants in on some of the TEFL money. They start promoting one (or more) TEFL courses and to do so they hype up the benefits of taking the TEFL program – such as lying about its accreditation status. The affiliate marketer begins to earn a steady stream of income, but graduates of the program soon discover that the TEFL course and end certificate are not as “internationally recognized” or “amazing” as they were led to believe.

2. An affiliate marketer starts as a genuine TEFL program graduate. They believe in the program that they are promoting, but they could make so much more money if they were to promote other TEFL programs as well. They start promoting more and more TEFL programs, without having any direct experience with those programs, and end up falling into the same moral bankruptcy stage as the affiliate marketer in example (1.) – hyping up TEFL programs with false claims.

3. An affiliate marketer has been promoting various TEFL programs for a while now, but they still have the desire to earn more money. The problem is, that no more TEFL programs are willing to partner with them. They get around this by publishing false and misleading content about the business competition of the programs for which they earn money. This way, the affiliate marketer’s website shows up in the Google search results for the TEFL programs that they are trashing online, and they can convince the new traffic to take one of the courses that they earn an affiliate’s commission instead.

How can I detect whether a website owner is an affiliate marketer?

This is pretty easy to detect.

All affiliate marketers have one thing on their minds: convince you to take a TEFL program that they are going to earn a commission on.

Therefore, you should be EXTREMELY aware of any third-party websites/blogs that promote a TEFL program (or multiple TEFL programs).

Not only will you run a strong risk of purchasing a course that is being falsely advertised, but you will also be inadvertently paying a percentage of your TEFL course fee to the affiliate marketer.

The TEFL programs that are notorious for selling their TEFL courses via affiliate marketers are:

International TEFL Academy | i to i TEFL | MyTEFL | ITTT TEFL | Premier TEFL | The TEFL Academy

None of these TEFL programs is fully accredited, and yet they remain popular TEFL programs – due to the proliferation of their affiliate marketers.

In addition, and something that is a low moral bar, quite a few of the TEFL review websites earn their money via affiliate marketing.

This means that a TEFL reviews website that might appear to be an industry authority, will be deleting negative reviews behind the scenes and allowing fake positive reviews to be published on their site because they earn money from the TEFL programs that they have listed.

Trusted TEFL Reviews has a zero-tolerance policy for affiliate marketing.

There is zero affiliate marketing on Trusted TEFL Reviews.

We don’t allow TEFL companies to manipulate their reviews on Trusted TEFL Reviews, and we don’t charge TEFL companies anything for listing their programs.

They choose not to largely because they are not allowed to by the accreditation bodies that fully accredit them. It simply isn’t possible for them to risk placing their online marketing in the control of a third-party individual.

Therefore, we don’t recommend purchasing your TEFL course via the TEFL affiliate marketer because you will likely end up investing in a course that is claimed to be “Fully Accredited” but is without fully accredited status.

His name is Ian Leahy, and he clandestinely runs the ESLinsider TEFL program.

I write “clandestinely” because he tries to portray an image online of being an impartial TEFL expert.

In reality, he is just trying to sell his (unaccredited) TEFL program.

Having already been banned from Facebook, for repeatedly publishing false and misleading content (and having had some of his videos taken down from YouTube) he now resorts to publishing attack articles on his school blog – mirroring the end development stage of the affiliate marketer.

Choose any reputable TEFL program or accreditation website: Ian will have written some outright rubbish about it at some time.

Here is a classic example of ESLinsider at work:

Like the later-stage affiliate marketer, Ian Leahy also does this to drive traffic to his website, where he sells a subpar TEFL program.

Conclusion

Despite the many scams out there, there are a handful or two excellent TEFL/TESOL programs available to take online.

You just need to be aware that the TEFL programs that are not fully accredited are the ones either hyping up their TEFL programs or trashing their competitors.

Trusted TEFL Reviews is one of the few TEFL review websites that will only publish verified TEFL student/graduate reviews. We also never delete a review – even if a TEFL program tries its best to have it deleted.

The result of this is that we tend to be favored by reputable TEFL programs, and singled out for “special treatment” by the less reputable ones.

One of the classic moves by a less reputable TEFL program, when they are notified that a review will not be deleted, is to try and reduce the credibility of Trusted TEFL Reviews.

They hope, by doing so, that people will be less inclined to believe their bad review(s).

Therefore, a final tip is to be extremely skeptical of any TEFL program that goes out of its way – often via an affiliate marketer – to try and discredit Trusted TEFL Reviews.

The 120 hours course took around a day to complete. It had some helpful info that I’m sure I’ll use in classes in the future. On the whole, though, it is just a rubber stamp TEFL certification course. Some of the questions were so easy (I have zero teaching experience) that I felt insulted. No feedback from my online tutor and no communication while on and after the course. You are on your own. I’m awarding Premier TEFL Online three stars because at least I learned something and hopefully some schools will accept the certificate.

The Teach English Abroad program offered by the Ireland/United Kingdom Premier TEFL has been an effective and straightforward approach to getting a foot in the door of teaching English in another country.

As a non-native English speaker, I will always be at some level of disadvantage because I wasn’t born in an English-speaking country, but I was able to excel in the course because of my deep knowledge of English. I had to learn the language from scratch and I probably know more about the language than some native speakers do.

I do need to asterisk my review by conceding that I haven’t yet begun my overseas TEFL job search, but I will soon and I have noticed the demand for English teachers is very strong worldwide.

This was a very well-put-together course and covers the fundamental knowledge required of you when you want to teach English abroad.

I would like to add a tip and that is that for certain countries a degree is required and for others, a degree isn’t required. I have my degree but if you don’t have one or just don’t have one yet, there are still teaching English abroad job options.

From what I’ve seen online, there are lots of jobs for people with and without degrees. Having a degree, though, puts you in the driver’s seat.

I was happy with my Premier TEFL experience and want to add five stars to my review. Thank you.

I have no hesitation in recommending Premier TEFL’s Travel & Teach TESOL online program for anyone who wants to train to become an English teacher overseas.

I went through the program in January 2022. Two months later and I was booked on a flight to Bangkok to start a teaching contract at a school just outside of Rayong. I’m still teaching at the school and my life couldn’t be better.

Rayong doesn’t get the tourist traffic that other places in Thailand do and it has some incredible beaches. Plus, it’s a short hop to Bangkok for weekend trips when I crave some city life.

I still remember most of the course and to this day I still use the activities which were presented in the course.

One of the things I love about Premier TEFL is that they provide ongoing support well after you’ve completed the course. Next year, I hope to move to Japan. I’ll contact Premier TEFL then to ask for some assistance with the transition.

One thing to bear in mind when accepting a TEFL job in Thailand is to negotiate the salary and benefits.

If you don’t, you might find yourself teaching for less than the average teacher earns and with fewer perks.

For anyone reading this review who is thinking about Thailand as a teaching destination, I recommend the southeast of Thailand.

Here is my Premier TEFL review.

I recently graduated from the course and I recommend the program for online TEFL training.

The course is divided into different modules, which I thought was a really effective structure. Because it is divided into modules, I could focus on one topic theme before moving on to the next. The organization of the course also helped me to retain an interest in the materials and maintain an overall positive level of motivation.

As with any online study, the way a course is approached will ultimately influence the grade achieved. I approached the course with a promise to myself that I would work on it for at least two hours a day and that I would research TEFL materials in addition to the ones presented in the course. That way I would avoid falling behind and risking not completing on time. In the end, it only took three weeks to complete all the modules.

I didn’t think the course was too easy or too difficult. It struck the right balance between the two.

My short-term plan is going to be to accumulate some online students. There does seem to be a lot of work available so I’m not worried about not being able to find an online job. Longer term, I hope to be able to move abroad and teach in Japan. The wages are higher in Japan than in most other countries and I love Japanese culture. With my TEFL certificate and my bachelor’s degree, I don’t foresee having any issues with finding teaching work there.

This course gives a comprehensive view of how to teach English and provides resources that you can use in your classes. I loved the practicality of the course and all of the examples of how to use games to teach students. Online and in-person teaching are both covered in the course, which is ideal for anyone who wants to teach either online or abroad. Support tickets were answered quickly and the support given was of a high level in terms of expertise and professionalism. I don’t have any regrets about the decision I made to take the Premier TEFL Certification course online.

No cons immediately spring to mind. Maybe there will be some when I start teaching but those won’t be related in any way to the Premier TEFL Certification course. I was concerned at first that it might be difficult to find teaching work, what with all the TEFL teachers already in their teaching jobs and there is only a limited number of teaching online jobs. This hasn’t turned out to be a valid concern because I’ve seen many jobs offered online and it looks as though there are currently more jobs available than teachers able to fill the places.

I recommend the Premier TEFL Certification course to anyone who wants to teach English as a foreign or second language. In these difficult times of war and inflation, this is an easy way to make a bit of extra money and if you teach online you save on transport costs. That’s what I’m planning on doing in the coming weeks.

During the lockdown, after losing my full-time job, I started looking to do some formal online learning that would translate into a real-world living wage. I saw an advert for Premier TEFL’s courses on a travel website. They were offering a sweet deal at the time, the TEFL course was just $299, which made it easy on the bank balance. I’ve taken several online courses before but never a really serious one like a TEFL course. I had only taken the kind of courses before where you pay something like $10 and at the end, you print out your certificate and feel that you learned very little in the process. The Premier TEFL online course was different in that I felt that I was in a serious program that demanded a lot from me and when I received the course certificate it felt like I had earned it. I must also write that the course is well presented and the tutors clearly understood their subject matter. I was blown away by their knowledge. The great thing about Premier TEFL is that they also help you when you are starting your job search. When I asked them if they could help me find an online teaching job they responded by pointing me in the right direction. It’s not job placement per se but extremely helpful nonetheless. Two thumbs up!
