There are so many TEFL/TESOL program choices that it overwhelms you and you end up going down different rabbit holes to try and find the course that is going to be the one for you. I chose the TEFL Online Pro program because it seemed to be the one that offered the best value-for-money certification. All the positive reviews and the award status of the program were also key in my decision-making process. With this program, you don’t pay anything extra for tutor support and job assistance support. Plus, it’s fully accredited. I’m giving my TEFL Online Pro experience top marks because of the price, the course, the support, and how easy it was to get a job after.

ACTEFLC Accredited tefl online pro review, submitted by Neil.

ACTEFLC Accredited.

What sold teflonlinepro.com to me was their excellent student feedback, the possibility of using the certification to teach online/overseas, and their acteflc.com fully accredited status.

ACTEFLC is mentioned as one of the more well-respected international accreditation bodies in The Accreditation Guide.

I liked the easiness that it took to enroll in the course. There weren’t any long application forms to complete. Their website guides you to which course suits you best, given whether you have, or haven’t taught experience. I hadn’t any teaching experience, so I was left with the option of taking either their 120-hour or 140-hour TEFL/TESOL course. In the end, I chose the Hybrid 140-hour course because for just a hundred bucks or so more the course came with 20 hours of teaching practice. I was given the option of teaching my hours in-person, or online. I chose the online option because it was just more practical and convenient for me.

The course is divided into digestible modules that go into detail about the core TEFL themes you must know if you want to teach English, and at the end of each module, there is a fun quiz that tests your knowledge. I was relieved there wasn’t one final exam at the end. My tip is to pay attention to the content of the modules because I rushed one of them and failed the module. They gave me a second chance to take the module, but I wish I had focused more and not needed to retake a module. They didn’t charge me to retake the module.

And this leads me to the course support. the support is there when you need it and it is delivered fast! You can contact TEFL Online Pro through email, or by calling them, but I found that the internal messaging system worked best for me because replies were received almost instantaneously. It also allows you to have a quick back-and-forth, which is very useful if you have further questions.

When I had completed the 120 hours of the theoretical part of the course, TEFL Online Pro helped me set up my 20 teaching hours. I was expected to teach 20 x 45 or 20 x 60-minute lessons, but I only had to submit 6 completed lesson plans. They make it very easy to pass the course and in doing so they make certain that you are always on the right track. The critique I received on my lesson plans was inspiring and showed me where I was going right, and where there should be room for further improvement.

I received my embossed certificate within a week of course completion and approximately two weeks after that I began teaching my first online classes.

One of the main benefits of taking this certification course is that they designate a jobs advisor to you, who advises you on the process of applying for jobs, which includes having help with my resume, and they also say that this is a lifetime service. Whether this is true or not, I have read other reviews of the TEFL Online Program where teachers have said they had help in finding jobs in other locations months and even years after initially completing their course.

If you don’t have the extra $200 for the Hybrid course, the 120-hour Professional course will also serve your purposes well. I did have the extra money freed up at the time so that is why I went with the Hybrid course option.

I can see now why this company has won awards for its courses and support.

The only thing I regret about taking the course was that I wish I had known how much grammar would be covered in the course, and in hindsight, I would have purchased a new or used grammar book.

It’s not a particularly difficult course to take, and it’s not a walk in the park either, but there is a lot that you are expected to take in such a relatively short study time. I suppose you could take one of those cheap Groupon courses that charge something like $20, but you won’t learn as much and you’ll find it difficult when the difficult questions are asked in job interviews. And believe me, in the job interviews I had, difficult questions were asked. Employers want to see that you know your stuff. If you take this TEFL Online Pro course, you shouldn’t have any problem confidently answering any of the questions.

Finally, I wanted to take a fully accredited TEFL/TESOL course because the jobs I was interested in applying for stipulated that a fully accredited TEFL would be a must. ACTEFLC-accredited courses are considered to be among the best. So my interviewers said anyway.

Overall, this was great value for money and far cheaper than the in-person TEFL course equivalent training option.

tefl online pro review, submitted by Hannah Beatrice.

The primary reason for choosing Fully Accredited teflonlinepro was because a friend of mine recommended the program. He has been teaching English as a foreign language for the past two years and took his TEFL/TESOL certification through teflonlinepro.

This meant it was a no-brainer for me to choose this program because the certificate has proven its worth for him, teaching English online and in Vietnam.

I can confirm that all the positive reviews of the program are warranted.

It’s an excellent program, with excellent support, and because it is Fully Accredited and internationally recognized, you can use the certificate at the best online and in-person schools.

I finished the course in December 2022 and already have two online teaching jobs.

What’s my next plan? To teach in Japan.

I’ve always been fascinated with its culture.

I’m now back in touch with Paul from the program and he is helping me with information about how to go about finding a job, the best schools to teach for, and what paperwork is needed for the visa requirements.

Fully Accredited teflonlinepro is one you should have on your list when deciding on which TEFL/TESOL course to take. It was the only one on my list and I don’t have anything negative to write about my experience with this online education training company.

I’ll leave you with a tip.

In Module 11, there is a lesson plan coursework assignment that you have to create and then submit to teflonlinepro for grading. Make sure to include the grammar rules for the Past Simple and Present Perfect in the Presentation section of the lesson plan.

Thank you very much Fully Accredited teflonlinepro!

TEFL TESOL Accreditation 101

TEFL TESOL Accreditation 101.

This article has been updated on December 21, 2025.

TEFL TESOL Accreditation 101.

(A list of institutions providing Online TEFL programs ‘Fully Accredited’ status appears towards the bottom of this article.)

This is quite a long article. It is an honest, factual, serious look at the question of Online TEFL/TESOL/TESL accreditation.

If you are researching which Online TEFL/TESOL/TESL course to take, this article should be essential reading for you.

For sake of convenience, and to avoid repetition, we will use the generic term ‘TEFL’ instead of mentioning ‘TEFL/TESOL/TESL’ each time these terms require a mention. These terms do have their differences in meaning, but for all intents and purposes, they essentially refer to the same type of training and this is why most teacher-training programs advertise their courses with one or more of these acronyms listed.

One of the most common misconceptions about Online TEFL courses, and one of the main areas that permit room for the peddling of misinformation, is the heated topic of accreditation.

Over the past few years, Online TEFL programs have discovered that it is much easier to sell their courses if they claim that their courses are accredited.

The result of this ‘accreditation fever’ has been the mushrooming creation of “accreditation bodies” that have been created by savvy business people with little or no background in education.

Some TEFL schools have also jumped on the bandwagon; creating fictitious accreditation websites, in order to make their courses seem more credible – all the while deceiving their customers and perpetuating the ‘accreditationspiracy’.

In addition to the above, some Online TEFL programs try to convince consumers that their programs are more credible because they are “accredited and regulated” by AQC, Ofqual, QUALIFI. These are not accreditation bodies, they are regulatory bodies. There is, a major difference, and the “Level 5” TEFL course brand (which was only recently created) is just another marketing gimmick to try to convince the consumer that you should take their Online TEFL program.

The truth of the matter is that there isn’t one international accreditation body for Online TEFL courses.

Therefore, we begin this article with the plain unadorned fact that the Online TEFL industry is completely unregulated, and the term ‘accredited’, when applied to Online TEFL/TESOL certification course programs, is purely a marketing gimmick. This, in turn, has created a snowball effect, whereby most people who are looking to take an Online TEFL course now place accreditation status high on their tick box list that a TEFL program must include.

Some government visa agencies, and some language schools, have also bought into the accreditation fallacy; stipulating that their teachers must hold an accredited TEFL certificate if they want to work for them and if they want to be able to legally teach in their country.

I have been teaching for over ten years now, and I have not once been asked whether my TEFL certificate is accredited or not. I have also never been asked whether my TEFL certification was taken online or in-person. I live and work in Austria, where the authorities are sticklers for correct documentation.

So if accreditation means relatively very little, is it completely worthless?

And which accreditation bodies are more trustworthy than others?

Accreditation is important when it provides the customer with an extra layer of consumer protection.

Accreditation can be divided into four main camps:

  1. An Online TEFL program simply chooses not to capitulate to the pressure of being accredited and remains an Unaccredited provider.
  2. An Online TEFL program creates an accreditation website itself, for the sole purpose of convincing consumers that they are a credible institution. This is usually a short-term fix because no amount of convincing can hide a subpar product and poor customer service. Trusted TEFL Reviews classes these Online TEFL programs ‘Unaccredited‘ and such programs should be avoided. They should be avoided because the training will be poor, you will have very little (if any) consumer rights, and you could become a victim of fraud.
  3. An Online TEFL program capitulates to the pressure of being accredited and pays an annual fee to an accreditation body, and in return, they can claim that they are an accredited Online TEFL program. The accreditation body may, or may not, follow through on their promises that they maintain high levels of accountability regarding the Online TEFL programs that they accredit. Trusted TEFL Reviews classes these Online TEFL programs ‘Accredited‘ and such programs should be chosen after due diligence is carried out regarding their (verified) customer reviews on trustedteflreviews.com.
  4. An Online TEFL program capitulates to the pressure of being accredited and pays an annual fee to an accreditation body, and in return, they can claim that they are an accredited Online TEFL program. The accreditation body ensures high standards of culpability and follows through on their promises that they maintain high levels of accountability regarding the Online TEFL programs that they accredit. Trusted TEFL Reviews classes these Online TEFL programs ‘Fully Accredited‘ and such programs tend anyway to receive consistently positive student feedback. This is not always the rule, though, so always check the (verified) customer reviews on trustedteflreviews.com.

Important information about Ofqual and TQUK-regulated courses:

Ofqual and TQUK are often (incorrectly) claimed to accredit Online TEFL programs offering a ‘Level 5’ certificate. Some Level 5 programs even go as far as to claim that the Level 5 TEFL certificate is the same as the CELTA certificate. ‘Level 5’ refers to one of the levels on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In other words, it’s a United Kingdom qualification that means very little to anyone outside of the UK. Furthermore, a qualification assessed at Level 5 doesn’t mean that it is “equivalent to the CELTA qualification”. Instead, it means that the level of education, knowledge, and skills required to complete the course is the same as that required to complete the CELTA, i.e., to be over 18, and to have a level of English and education that is equivalent to the average UK high school graduate.

Ofqual and TQUK are regulatory bodies, not accreditation bodies.

Ofqual and TQUK are regulatory bodies, not accreditation bodies.

A TEFL program can be regulated by Ofqual and be accredited or fully accredited by an external accreditation body, but this is not always the case.

A number of Ofqual-regulated TEFL programs blatantly lie to their customers by claiming that they are Ofqual accredited, or lie and claim that they are Ofqual regulated and fully accredited by another body that only regulates courses.

Ofqual and TQUK-regulated courses should provide you with a high level of TEFL training (although this is by no means guaranteed) but Ofqual and TQUK are by no means of the stretch of the imagination accreditation bodies.

One final point is that the accreditation industry in itself is highly competitive.

An argument that we often see is that a certain accreditation body should be taken more seriously than another simply because they have been in operation for longer.
This is absolute hogwash.
It doesn’t matter if an accreditation body has been in operation for one month or ten years.
What matters is whether the main accreditation members of the body are master’s-degree educated (in the field of Education), have years of credible experience in the field of TEFL and whether the accreditation body honors the rights of consumers.
Too many self-proclaimed “established” accreditation bodies have been set up by private individuals, with no university education and little to no experience in TEFL, and with just one mission: to make money and to hell with standards.

And our last (important) point:

When you apply for an English teacher job, online or abroad, IF your employer does ask whether your certificate is accredited, they sure as hell won’t ask WHICH company accredited your certificate.

What DOES matter, and what is ESSENTIAL, is that the Online TEFL course that you took actually taught you how to teach English.

Help with finding teaching work after the course should also be a priority, but NEVER pay any company to help find you a job. And NEVER accept a job placement agreement. There is so much work available and an Online TEFL program that will help you find work, as a free service when you pay for the course, is the preferential route.

Yes, you can save your money and buy a 120-Hour Online TEFL course for under $100 US, and you can enjoy the short-term-lived, feel-good emotion that you “got TEFL certified”, but the real proof of the pudding comes when you are sat in front of an experienced interviewer or stood in front of an actual class of students, and when you will very quickly realize that the course you completed in under a day has, in no way, whatsoever, prepared you for any of this. And then, inevitably, you won’t hear back from the school and you will, inevitably, have to begin a new search for another Online TEFL course to take – one that will properly prepare you for the job you want to train for.

Therefore, in conclusion to this TEFL TESOL Accreditation 101 article, always aim for a fully accredited Online TEFL program.

Quality 120-Hour Online TEFL courses begin from around $150 US. Pay anything less and you will be selling yourself and your future students short.

My decision to go with the TEFL Online Pro program for my teaching English certification has proven to be a very good choice. There were many program options to choose from. I chose this particular program because TEFL Online Pro was repeatedly mentioned as being the top-rated program on the many websites I researched, because of the overall positive customer feedback reviews, and because they are a fully accredited TEFL/TESOL certification course provider. I made certain to avoid any non-accredited programs. It’s a shame that some programs lie about their accreditation, but I guess that’s just the way the world is. TEFL Online Pro is accredited by ACTEFLC and I made inquiries before I enrolled to just make certain that the accreditation is legit. It is and I have been using the certificate from this company since March this year for my online teaching. I can’t fault the course or the help I received from the school. It’s a very well-organized course and my online tutor was always there when I asked for help and guidance. I also received help from the school when I was searching for online jobs and I will be asking for help again in 2022 when I head off overseas to travel and teach. A top choice for a fully accredited TEFL/TESOL program with awesome customer support!

Teaching in Thailand tefl online pro review, submitted by Margaret.

Teaching in Thailand.

I have had a wonderful experience with TEFL training with TEFL Online Pro.

I enrolled in the course on December 20 and had everything sewn up by the start of the new year. I know there is an international pandemic going on, but I didn’t want that to stop the plans I made for myself in 19: to go and live and work in Thailand. Throughout the jobs assistance part of the after-course service I was in touch with Paul Murphy. He has been excellent throughout. Paul passed on all the information he knew about traveling to Thailand under Covid and then it was up to me to contact my home country’s embassy to check and see if I could make it over there.

Normally, before Covid, you just had to turn up and apply for a job when you were there. Since Covid, Thailand now expects you to have all your paperwork wrapped up BEFORE you travel. I’m sure this will revert once Covid is over, but for the time being this is how the Thais have it arranged.

Among the documents I needed was a notarized copy of my TEFL Online Pro TEFL/TESOL certificate and this was also possible to arrange via Paul Murphy and the embassy. I thought it was a nice touch that TEFL Online Pro didn’t charge me extra for this extra service.

I’ve been teaching in Krabi Town now for just over a month and I LOVE IT!!!

It is SO beautiful here and my students are SO lovely. Plus the food is amazing and people, in general, are very friendly and hospitable. I work 20 hours per week and I earn 42,000 Baht per month. That’s a very good salary. It’s enough for me because my rent is only 8,000 Baht a month! A meal in my favorite local restaurant sets me back at just $2. I love how affordable it is here.

If you plan on teaching abroad and you are unsure of which TEFL company to train with I’d recommend looking into the TEFL Online Pro course. They are accredited too, so you don’t need to worry whether the certificate will be accepted or not.

Top marks for the course and the support, but not such great marks for the current government restrictions of getting over to Thailand. Still, it has been worth all the red tape to get here and I have TEFL Online Pro to thank for that!

Teaching in Europe tefl online pro review, submitted by Jesse.

Teaching in Europe.

One of the things that attracted me to the tefl online pro program was its high success rate with teacher job placements. Also, the curriculum was aligned with what I wanted to study as tefl online pro included a module in teaching Business English. They also include a module on teaching children and teenagers, but I don’t think this will be something I’ll need. Still, though, it’s nice to have it as a backup plan if I ever find myself being asked to teach kids.

What impressed me above all was how quickly my tutor would respond to any questions I had. They have a convenient internal messaging system that you access directly in the course and I often get replies to my messages instantaneously. This quick turnaround in communication a) gave a great impression of tefl online pro and b) helped a lot because it meant not having to wait around for hours or days until I got an answer to a question or feedback on an assignment.

tefl online pro also helped me find a job. I asked if they could look over my resume and Sarah from the office showed me how a teacher’s resume should look for maximum success to secure a job interview. Sarah also gave me some great tips regarding the questions I should expect to be asked in an interview. This all turned out to be solid advice because I was asked a few of them in my interview and so I was prepared in advance.

Now that I’m fully vaccinated I’m all set to start teaching in Germany, beginning in September. My school is handling the visa paperwork and other documents, but I know that I can contact tefl online pro at any time and they will be there to help should I need it.

For the $199 I paid for the course I would say that the price is a bargain and the service I received has been excellent throughout.

The tefl online pro course taught me a lot and their support has been far more than I had anticipated. I can’t recommend this TEFL/TESOL program enough. I made a great choice with this one.
