i-to-i TEFL deceptive pricing. Prices are deceptive. They make it seem you are only paying $99 for the course but this is just the first installment payment!! I keep going back over the payments page and it is just SO deceptive. I’d understand it if they had the full course price listed clearly, but they don’t. It’s hidden under the information explaining what a bargain $99 is for a course. I decided not to proceed with the course because of this fact. I wasn’t given a refund. Instead, I got an explanation about their installment payment policy. Peeps: look carefully at the pricing structure if you are enrolling in an i-to-i TEFL online course. I’ve checked other TEFL websites and can’t see this replicated anywhere. I think this is a specific issue with i-to-i. It’s a bit scammy and absolutely misleading. I shall be writing to the Better business Bureau.

120-hour Online TEFL. The payment was quick and simple and access to the course was instantaneous. The office staff was friendly and approachable, and an online tutor was available as part of the package but I never needed their help. Knowledge of module content learned was continuously tested to ensure that the information was sufficiently covered and retained. Studying online was fun and engaging and so were the written assignments. My certificate arrived in the post about a month after finishing the course. The i-to-i TEFL course online is a great course to take and i-to-i TEFL has made sure students complete all areas of the course before issuing their certificate. Someone wrote in a previous review that they thought this was a TEFL mill, but I strongly disagree with this assessment. I was made to work hard for my TEFL certification. Conclusion: a really good study experience.

I recently completed the TEFL course offered by i-to-i, and while the course content itself was decent, I’ve had some issues that leave me feeling uncertain about recommending it.

The course was okay overall — the platform was easy to use, and the modules were fairly well organized. It provided a good introduction to TEFL concepts, including lesson planning, grammar, and classroom management. The self-paced nature of the course was a plus for me, and the assignments were manageable.

However, the biggest problem is that I still haven’t received my certificate, even though I completed everything. I’ve reached out to customer support, but the response has been slow and unhelpful so far. This is disappointing, especially since the certificate is essential for applying to jobs.

I also came across online discussions suggesting that i-to-i may have gone through bankruptcy or changed ownership recently. I can’t confirm this, but the fact that multiple people are mentioning delayed certificates and poor communication is definitely concerning.

If you’re just looking to get a basic TEFL qualification and aren’t too worried about job placement or top-tier accreditation, i-to-i might be passable. But if you’re planning to teach abroad seriously or need guaranteed certificate delivery, I’d advise caution.

Supposedly accredited by TVUQ (which I now learn doesn’t accredit TEFL courses) I-TO-I TEFL UK is one of many programs offering a Level5 version of the certification. I did some research, though, and couldn’t find them registered as a Level 5 course provider. Pros and cons of this certification program:

1. It’s relatively affordable compared with the 4-week in-person courses.
2. Study-as-you-go model makes it convenient.
3. It has an enticing website and they do seem to sell many courses.

1. Customer service is absent. They don’t respond to emails and feedback and grading on coursework takes forever.
2. I only got my current teaching gig because of my previous teaching experience. The school director took one look at my I-TO-I TEFL certificate and quite literally laughed. If I didn’t have teaching experience, I wouldn’t have got the job. That is for sure.
3. They have many bloggers praising the program’s benefits. This should have been an immediate red flag if I hadn’t felt rushed into purchasing the course.
4. No after-course support whatsoever, despite claims to the contrary made on the program’s website.
5. I’m not even convinced this program is accredited. I checked the Level 5 database and I-TO-I TEFL isn’t mentioned there.

If you don’t mind teaching for some of the more obscure teaching companies this program will probably suffice. For anything more professional and better paid, I’d give it a miss and choose a different program.

I recently completed a Level 5 TEFL course with i-to-i TEFL and thought that the course was great. It was divided into digestible portions (modules) and there were mini-tests during the course rather than one final test at the end. So in terms of the study materials, I was completely satisfied. The customer support wasn’t so good. I was designated a tutor to help me via the online channel but heard nothing from them throughout the course. I didn’t get any replies to any emails I sent the school at all, other than the ones I got when I was about ready to enroll in the course and pay. Also, no help with job hunting was provided, although it is claimed that the support is part of the course on the school’s website. So this is the reason for only three stars from me for this review. In hindsight, I should have chosen a school offering a more personalized experience. I do have the TEFL certificate now, so that is an achievement I am proud of. I just don’t have so much of a clue as to where to look for jobs and which jobs will be the right fit for me. SO overall left feeling a bit lost and clueless after this course with i-to-i TEFL.

A good self-guided study course that gets the job done without the inconvenience of having to be at a specific place to complete it. No extra services such as job hunting help, but I didn’t need this anyway as I already had a job lined up when I took the course. Thought it would have been nice to receive regular feedback on my coursework, but I managed to pass the course without this help so again I can’t complain as it didn’t affect me so much. The course is mostly text-reading-based, but overall I enjoyed what was presented and how it was presented. You do need to pay for the i-to-i TEFL certificate when all the modules are done. This is one area in which I think i-to-i could improve – like issuing the certificate without a fee. They do mention it in their T+Cs, however, I couldn’t find any mention of it elsewhere on their website. I needed a quick online TEFL course for the certification and this i-to-i course was delivered.

I see a lot of bad reviews written about this program, but I was mostly satisfied with my TEFL education at i to i. The only thing was the cost of the course. When you factor in the certification fees and other costs it is expensive. But, I have not had any problems finding a job. I currently work for VIPKid and am satisfied with my salary and working conditions. When I was looking for a course to take I also considered the one offered by International Open Academy. It was much cheaper and covered the same amount of learning hours as the one provided by i to i. I’m glad I didn’t choose it though. Even though all I needed to show for the job at VipKids was a TEFL certificate, I did need to prove that I could teach when I began the teaching probation period and I just don’t think a cheap-as-chips TEFL course would have been up to scratch for this task. My advice is to pay more and you will get more in the long term. I’m just writing this because I connected with someone online who took the TEFL course with International Open Academy and they wrote that the course hardly taught them anything at all. One thing I was surprised at though is that VipKids didn’t care if my TEFL was an accredited one or not. So I wouldn’t say accreditation is all that essential. As long as you have the TEFL and it was a good enough course to teach you the basics then you should be fine wherever you apply for a job. I would like to add to my review that i to i also provide job placement services on their website. I don’t have any experience with this but I’m guessing this could be useful for people looking to travel overseas and work for the first time. Besides the cost of the tuition, I do recommend the i to i TEFL experience. You will learn something of value from the course and you will be able to use the certificate for job interviews.

They are polite and friendly when they want you to enroll, but once you have enrolled, their customer care is nonexistent. They just don’t seem to care. At all! Hidden fees all over the shop that are not included in the course fee. It costs around $50 (US) for a 2-week course extension. It costs around $150 (US) to have the certificate delivered. It costs around $100 (US) to get the i-to-i certificate certified to qualify for the Chinese Z visa. And it will cost you dearly if you accept a paid teaching placement with this company. They just want your money. It’s a real shame because the course was OK. Sure, it was riddled with grammar and spelling mistakes, but I learned quite a lot, and I thought it approached the theory of teaching in a relatable way for the student. Would I take the course again if I went back in time? No way. Will I recommend i-to-i to friends and people I meet? No way. I hope the peeps at i-to-i read this review and improve pronto because they just can’t be running a business like this. It’s just not fair to their paying customers.

I enjoyed working through the course. The website is clear and straightforward to use. I’m highly impressed by the efficiency of marking and turnaround of the final certificate. The support available has been great too. Any queries are quickly dealt with at ease. The course is well structured and informative, but, most importantly, encourages reflection and research. Completed the course in two and a half months. I think you could complete it in less time if you worked on it every day. I didn’t have the luxury of being able to do so, so I could only study in the afternoons and over the weekends. If you’re looking for a TEFL Teaching qualification, this provider is one of the best out there. The only suggestion would be that some of the modules could be updated. The assignments and learning material sections are a little cluttered but that’s just me. I would recommend the course and the company.

This course is very well structured, guiding you through the basics of ESL teaching. Some big pros of the course:

• Engaging materials with a focus not only on the theory of teaching but also on the practical aspects of it.
• Testing is carried out as you work through the course, instead of there being a pass or fail exam at the end.
• The lesson plan teaching assignments are focused on creating games, making them fun & interesting.

Only a few cons:

• I could have done with having easier accessibility for help and feedback.
• I didn’t realize I had to pay extra for the certificate until the end of the course. This was probably my bad though.

All in all, highly recommended! The school also provides job placement so that is another pro to add to the list.

TEFL mill. This is what I always think of first when I’m reminded of my i-to-i TEFL experience. Basically, the course is divided into 3 separate modules (which read like a book) and there are tests after each section that I thought clearly directed you to the correct answer. Super easy tests btw. If you did manage to get an answer wrong then you could have another go at it anyway. It’s an impossible-to-fail course. The problem is you won’t learn that much. Enough perhaps to become semi-proficient in creating lesson plans. Not much else though. I’d only recommend this course if all you need is a TEFL certificate to show to an employer. If you are looking for quality training then this may not be the course for you.

I am a student in the i-to-i TEFL program right now and I had so many problems logging into my course. They were very prompt in getting back to me, and answering my questions when I was going to enroll, but now I have enrolled, it’s a bit of a nightmare getting anyone to get back to me a solve what I see as a simple issue. After I purchased the course, I received a username and password to enter the course and they didn’t work. It took a week for i-to-i TEFL to get back to me and straighten things out. That means I lost a week of my allotted study time. Now I’m able to access the course materials, I can see that everything works as it should and I am enjoying my time. For the course, I gave a high score. For the customer service (after paying) it’s a thumbs down.

TEFL Affiliate Marketing Scam

The TEFL Affiliate Marketing Scam is a massive issue within the TEFL industry.

Every month, thousands of TEFL students get conned out of their hard-earned savings via false advertising and misleading information.

What is affiliate marketing?

“Affiliate marketing is an advertising model in which a company compensates third-party publishers to generate traffic or leads to the company’s products and services. The third-party publishers are affiliates, and the commission fee incentivizes them to find ways to promote the company.” – Investopedia.

This means that in an ideal world, a TEFL graduate promotes the TEFL program they took online (because they genuinely thought it was excellent and useful) and in return, they receive a commission from the TEFL program.

Why is it a scam?

The TEFL industry is highly competitive, with big money to be made from selling and promoting TEFL courses, and this has created a niche market for affiliate marketing.

Because of the large sums of money to be made, bad business practices are the rule rather than the exception.

Some common examples of the TEFL Affiliate Marketing Scam:

1. An affiliate marketer who has never taken a TEFL course wants in on some of the TEFL money. They start promoting one (or more) TEFL courses and to do so they hype up the benefits of taking the TEFL program – such as lying about its accreditation status. The affiliate marketer begins to earn a steady stream of income, but graduates of the program soon discover that the TEFL course and end certificate are not as “internationally recognized” or “amazing” as they were led to believe.

2. An affiliate marketer starts as a genuine TEFL program graduate. They believe in the program that they are promoting, but they could make so much more money if they were to promote other TEFL programs as well. They start promoting more and more TEFL programs, without having any direct experience with those programs, and end up falling into the same moral bankruptcy stage as the affiliate marketer in example (1.) – hyping up TEFL programs with false claims.

3. An affiliate marketer has been promoting various TEFL programs for a while now, but they still have the desire to earn more money. The problem is, that no more TEFL programs are willing to partner with them. They get around this by publishing false and misleading content about the business competition of the programs for which they earn money. This way, the affiliate marketer’s website shows up in the Google search results for the TEFL programs that they are trashing online, and they can convince the new traffic to take one of the courses that they earn an affiliate’s commission instead.

How can I detect whether a website owner is an affiliate marketer?

This is pretty easy to detect.

All affiliate marketers have one thing on their minds: convince you to take a TEFL program that they are going to earn a commission on.

Therefore, you should be EXTREMELY aware of any third-party websites/blogs that promote a TEFL program (or multiple TEFL programs).

Not only will you run a strong risk of purchasing a course that is being falsely advertised, but you will also be inadvertently paying a percentage of your TEFL course fee to the affiliate marketer.

The TEFL programs that are notorious for selling their TEFL courses via affiliate marketers are:

International TEFL Academy | i to i TEFL | MyTEFL | ITTT TEFL | Premier TEFL | The TEFL Academy

None of these TEFL programs is fully accredited, and yet they remain popular TEFL programs – due to the proliferation of their affiliate marketers.

In addition, and something that is a low moral bar, quite a few of the TEFL review websites earn their money via affiliate marketing.

This means that a TEFL reviews website that might appear to be an industry authority, will be deleting negative reviews behind the scenes and allowing fake positive reviews to be published on their site because they earn money from the TEFL programs that they have listed.

Trusted TEFL Reviews has a zero-tolerance policy for affiliate marketing.

There is zero affiliate marketing on Trusted TEFL Reviews.

We don’t allow TEFL companies to manipulate their reviews on Trusted TEFL Reviews, and we don’t charge TEFL companies anything for listing their programs.

They choose not to largely because they are not allowed to by the accreditation bodies that fully accredit them. It simply isn’t possible for them to risk placing their online marketing in the control of a third-party individual.

Therefore, we don’t recommend purchasing your TEFL course via the TEFL affiliate marketer because you will likely end up investing in a course that is claimed to be “Fully Accredited” but is without fully accredited status.

His name is Ian Leahy, and he clandestinely runs the ESLinsider TEFL program.

I write “clandestinely” because he tries to portray an image online of being an impartial TEFL expert.

In reality, he is just trying to sell his (unaccredited) TEFL program.

Having already been banned from Facebook, for repeatedly publishing false and misleading content (and having had some of his videos taken down from YouTube) he now resorts to publishing attack articles on his school blog – mirroring the end development stage of the affiliate marketer.

Choose any reputable TEFL program or accreditation website: Ian will have written some outright rubbish about it at some time.

Here is a classic example of ESLinsider at work:

Like the later-stage affiliate marketer, Ian Leahy also does this to drive traffic to his website, where he sells a subpar TEFL program.

Conclusion

Despite the many scams out there, there are a handful or two excellent TEFL/TESOL programs available to take online.

You just need to be aware that the TEFL programs that are not fully accredited are the ones either hyping up their TEFL programs or trashing their competitors.

Trusted TEFL Reviews is one of the few TEFL review websites that will only publish verified TEFL student/graduate reviews. We also never delete a review – even if a TEFL program tries its best to have it deleted.

The result of this is that we tend to be favored by reputable TEFL programs, and singled out for “special treatment” by the less reputable ones.

One of the classic moves by a less reputable TEFL program, when they are notified that a review will not be deleted, is to try and reduce the credibility of Trusted TEFL Reviews.

My overall take from this course was one of frustration and disappointment. I chose to do the i to i Tefl course mostly because of the can-do attitude presented on their sleek website. The course is made out to be a top-notch study experience with excellent customer service and a guaranteed teaching job at the end. In reality, the course wasn’t that great.

The 120-hour course took less than 20 to complete and this was because it is very basic. Some of the subjects covered do sound promising at first but when you get started you find yourself reading an extended synopsis rather than a carefully crafted study program. I understand that you can’t expect too much from these online courses but the study content in this course was way too general and wasn’t challenging at all. The spelling mistakes in the study content reinforced my overall take that a lot more thought had been placed on website design and marketing presentation than on the product itself. There are no customer services provided with this course either and good luck trying to contact anyone at i to i Tefl anyway. In the end, I did pass the course (no shock there) and I did get my Tefl certificate, which I must write looks good. I just went with the electronic version of the certificate because I didn’t feel like paying the exorbitant fee for the hard copy, and I decided to look for a job by myself because paying i to i Tefl for a job placement just didn’t sit well with me. I’m guessing the i to i Tefl course is better than the crazy cheap courses I’ve seen selling on Groupon but I can’t imagine there is that much of a difference in quality between them.
