The course looked a little intimidating at first, having absolutely no past experience in teaching at all, but as soon as I started I realized that the course had been designed for people like myself, with no previous teaching experience. That’s not to say this course was easy. It wasn’t. but the way the lessons are structured makes it relatively easy to navigate through the course stages and I thought the materials were presented really well. The parts where I got stuck the most were when it came to grammar. Understanding the grammar rules was just a matter of reading and taking in the information, but the difficult part was in understanding the techniques of how to present and teach the grammar. I learned that timelines are really useful tools for this and I always use one when teaching grammar time tenses to students. Another area where I slipped up a bit was phonetics. The table of phonemes can seem overwhelming at first. My advice here is not to worry about trying to memorize the whole table. I mean, you can if you want to, but just having it at hand when teaching, as a reference chart, is absolutely acceptable and the phonetic chart is very useful for pronunciation classes because it simplifies the process of explaining how sounds in English are voiced. I think because there is so much information contained within the course that no one can realistically expect to absorb all the information, and I found that learning and teaching is an ongoing process as I teach more and more classes and gain more and more experience. This course though was an excellent introduction to teaching and I have no regrets about choosing ITTO.

This was a really great TEFL option for me. I didn’t have the money to travel overseas for an in-class TEFL course, and I didn’t really have the time for it either. Plus, the costs of taking the TEFL in class are prohibitively expensive. I searched online for in-class courses and they want $2,000 just for the course. Then, there are the travel and accommodation expenses, and I know that I always spend more money in a country where I am new in. So, when I found out that this option existed online I went ahead with my online search and CIEE TEFL was the school that kept showing at the top of Google search. It isn’t an online/in-class course per se, because you teach the in-class segment online, but it’s the closest thing you’ll get to a fully in-class course and the price of the course was significantly lower than if I had taken one in a bricks and mortar facility overseas. As far as I can tell, the certificate issued through the CIEE program is practically identical to the in-class certificate examples I’ve seen on Google Images. When I interview for jobs now, I write that I have an in-class TEFL certificate and this hasn’t been at all questioned. I recommended this course to friends.

I am a recent graduate of TEFL Online Pro’s Professional (120 hours) course online. My experience with this company was very positive and I would like to share my thoughts on the program.

I completed the course in May of this year. It took me three weeks to complete all 12 modules and the two bonus units. I studied a couple of hours a day on it during the weekdays and for 2.5 full weekends (I finished the course on a Saturday afternoon.) The course took just over 120 hours to complete and I was happy with what was advertised in terms of study hours and with what I received.

I chose to take the TEFL with this program because they won the Teachers’ Choice Award this year, and because their course had two bonus units. These were teaching Business English and teaching young/younger learners (children and teenagers.) I don’t necessarily plan on teaching children or teenagers, but it is always good to have a backup plan in case I need to in the future. Plus, they improve my resume content.

The 12 modules cover in depth the main TEFL syllabus that I have seen also listed on practically all other TEFL programs. I’m assuming that this is the standard international syllabus for TEFL. The modules are accessible through a login page on the TEFL Online Pro website, and the structure of the course is user-friendly and very well presented.

I have to agree with other reviewers of this program that the feedback on assignments and the general speed with which my emails were answered were excellent. When you pay for something online, you are never quite sure what you will receive. When I paid for the course, I immediately received an email from Paul Murphy. It was a personalized email. When I wrote back to ask a question about testing, he responded within an hour with a detailed response. This was the precedent for how communication was quickly responded to for the whole duration of the course.

My online tutor (Rosie) was just as quick with her replies. And just as helpful in her responses.

Within two days of completing the course, I received a letter of recommendation and my course certificate from the TEFL Online Pro office. I also received access to their international job support team. Again, the communication here was excellent.

I paid a total of $299 US for the course, which included the online tutor support, the reference letter and course certificate, and the job support.

I wanted to teach online. I asked their support for help, and they delivered. A week later, I was interviewing for jobs. Two weeks after that, I had a full-time teaching position.

I really couldn’t have asked for any more. Especially given that the course is a fraction of the price of some other programs I saw advertised which don’t seem to have so many varied services for students.

The only negative of the course, for me at least, was that I wasn’t able to download the modules for later use. Instead, I was instructed to make screenshots of the activities that I wanted to save for my records. The reason for this might be because of copyright issues. Still, it would have been nice to be able to create a binder of the course that I could then use as a library resource.

I recommend this program for the quality of the course, office feedback, and end-of-course job support services.

Level 5 TESOL course certification – The TEFL Academy.

On paper, this course looks great. It covers 168 hours, which is far more than most other TESOL courses, and it comes with a designated online tutor.

However, once you’re all signed up and raving to go the reality comes like hitting a brick wall at 90 miles an hour.

It’s a very basic course. So basic that I can’t imagine anyone really learning anything from it. I also can’t imagine how anyone could possibly fail a course like this.

The modules are very thin on anything that could be described as engaging. Everything just comes over as really simplistic. The syllabus looks impressive, but the modules just don’t address the content well enough.

And forget the so-called online tutor feedback. Instead, expect copied and pasted replies with little to no relevance to the question asked. There is also little to no guidance for the assignments, and the assignment feedback was pretty pathetic.

I didn’t learn much on this 168-hour course, which took me a little over a week to complete. I just can’t see how this course can legitimately get away with being advertised as a 168-hour course when in reality it is more like a 70-80 hour course. Very poor indeed.

Would give the course one star from five. Receiving the certificate relatively promptly at the end increases my review of The TEFL Academy Level 5 TESOL certification course to an overall two stars from five. And that’s me being generous.

There was no feedback or guidance whilst doing the course and emails routinely went unanswered. The course looks outdated with too much emphasis on theory!!! I wish they had given feedback because I felt blind going through the course. If I had to do my TEFL all over again I wouldn’t choose to take this course. Hopefully, if Premier TEFL is reading my review, they will rethink how they interact with their customers. There is potential in the course – I did learn some important things about teaching – but without the support from the side of Premier TEFL, it’s difficult to judge for yourself if you are heading in the right direction or not.

The course was pretty much what I was expecting from what is advertised on the Let’s TEFL website. You read a chunk of text and then you complete a list of multiple-choice quiz questions. The course lacked any video content and the scrolling through text grew monotonous after a couple of modules in. Also, I noticed one or two grammar mistakes in the texts. Not exactly reassuring. I would describe this course as being essentially a TEFL mill. As long as you read the texts, choose/guess the right answers in the quizzes, and complete the homework assignment, you will pass the course with an almost 100% pass rate and receive your certificate approximately 2 weeks later. There was some mention of job placement on the Lets TEFL website, but this never materialized. I think this course is more suited to someone who just needs the TEFL certificate, without needing to go too much into depth about how and what to teach. I am happy with the outcome of the course. I just wish it had been more challenging.

My main reason for choosing the UoT TEFL course was that I live in the Toronto area and it was the only TEFL provider I could find which was based in the city. Or, maybe the only one I could be certain of was based in a brick-and-mortar Toronto city location. Compared with a lot of these other TEFL courses offering tuition online, UoT is up there with the price tag. But (and I see this is a general trend from other reviews) I wasn’t paying for the course myself, so with basically a blank checkbook I signed up for their online course version of their in-class TEFL courses Some reviews have complained of absent student feedback and shoddy customer service. I never experienced this. Each work assignment was marked and graded in good time and came with informative feedback. The course went deep into the materials (something I valued). From an academic institute with an international name for quality education, I wasn’t surprised by this high level of tuition. The school also provided me with an online tutor, who answered my questions well. I think taking a TEFL course without guidance is a bit like paddling a canoe down rapids without a paddle. So if you choose UoT TEFL because of this review then great. If it doesn’t convince you (likely because of the high introduction fees) then my advice is to choose a provider that offers the online tutor course service. Otherwise, you will find yourself up the river without a reliable navigation tool. I’ve had no problems at all using the certification since graduating. Therefore, I think you know why I recommend (if you have the $$$$ available) taking the TEFL with UoT TEFL.

I took the 120-hour TEFL/TESOL course.

Excellent! Practical and well-structured. Overall a great experience. I recommend TEFL Online Pro to take your 120-hour TEFL course. It comes with an online tutor and international job support as well and there weren’t any extras to pay at the end. So no extra charges hiding at completion. It was great value and the feedback and support I got from Paul and his team were much more informative than I was expecting for a course at this price point.

I had planned to go abroad and teach but when the pandemic struck I suddenly found myself with severely limited options and that’s when I decided to teach English online. I contacted Paul and he then connected me with Sue, who seems to be the main person behind the international job guidance team. Sue was very professional and super helpful. She gave me a list of vetted online language schools that were hiring at the time, and she also spent time with me working on my resume and interview techniques. It was the first time I had interviewed online so she arranged a Skype call with me to go over the techniques face-to-face, which worked well for me and clarified a few of the recurring questions I had about how the teaching works via online interaction only. It took a couple of weeks before I had my first firm job offer and I haven’t looked back since.

Some day I will probably move abroad to teach but for the time being, I am still satisfied with online teaching.

I have just completed the TEFL Online Pro 120-hour course online, and this is my review.

As you can probably guess from my maximum awarded 5 stars, I am a big fan of the course

My decision to study with TEFL Online Pro was based on weeks of research, where I began with a list of 20 TEFL courses, narrowed the list down to my top 5, and then committed to the TEFL Online Pro Professional course online. My main reason for this final decision was the consistent positive student reviews (alumni love the program) and also the reasonable price because the course also offers Teaching Business English and Teaching Young Learners modules in addition to the standard TEFL syllabus offered by so many other TEFL programs. The tipping point for me was the reviews. Past students love the program and I considered it the best deal around when compared to other courses I had on my shortlist of potential candidates.

When I enrolled, I received 3 emails.

1. Receipt of course purchase.
2. My username and password.
3. A personalized welcome email.

The full (Professional 120-Hour) course price is $299, but TOP was offering a $ 50-course discount at the time, so the complete course fee for me was just $249. In hindsight, this was worth every last cent.

Why was it worth every last cent?

1. I had an AMAZING tutor who helped me out along the way.
2. As soon as I opened the first module I saw this was a serious course and not just an automatic pass TEFL mill.
3. Feedback on my lesson plans was encouraging and reinforced the general sense that I wasn’t left without guidance. Having quick feedback on assignments and course content questions helped me develop my teaching knowledge during the course. Had I not had access to an online tutor, I wouldn’t have known whether I was headed in the right direction.
4. I was sent my certificate on the day I completed the final module. No waiting around for weeks for the certificate (as I have read happens with quite a few other TEFL schools).
5. Support was there when I needed help and advice with a job hunt. Paul and Susan were instrumental in helping me find teaching work online, and the recommendation letter they issued me boosted my teaching resume and helped me appear more credible to employers.
6. I wasn’t nickel and dimed (as I have also read happens with quite a few other TEFL schools). My course fee paid was the only payment I made and for $249 I have to write that I am impressed with the value for money aspect of this course.

Is there anything I would change about the course?

I can’t think of anything from the top of my head. All the positive reviews I read about this school have also been my overall experience of TEFL Online Pro and I feel fortunate that I made the right TEFL course decision.

If you are considering a TEFL course and are not quite sure which one to take, you can’t go wrong with TEFL Online Pro.

I found the CIEE 150-Hour TEFL course (online) to be good value for money and instrumental in enabling me to teach English to online learners. Communication with the school has been very good; both during the course and since completing it and earning my TEFL certificate. CIEE run an internal messaging board, where you can chat with their other teachers, and this has been so helpful when seeking up-to-date information on which countries have been opening their borders to foreign teachers. For the time being though I’m pretty content teaching online. I’ve been working for Palfish for a while now. They pay a fairly decent hourly rate, and I’ve had my pay bumped up twice now as they get to see that I’m a dependable teacher to have on their books. What’s really the benefit of teaching online though is the complete flexibility that comes with this line of work; no travel time and I’m now able to (by mutual agreement) move my students around so I don’t have gaping time slots between classes. Teaching through a computer does take a bit of getting used to, but after a week or so I settled into it and began realizing what does and what doesn’t work. I think I’ve been lucky because (so far) I haven’t experienced any of the classroom management issues which I’ve seen some other teachers sometimes experience teaching distance learning (young) students. After this, I’ll probably head over the ocean to teach somewhere in S E Asia. If the world ever gets back to pre-Covid normality again that is. But for the time being, I’m very content with the current arrangement.

Teach English in Vietnam. I spent 1 amazing year teaching English in Hanoi, Vietnam.

When I turned 30 I decided to make a change in my life so I enrolled in the TEFL and chose to study for this qualification online. Online just made a lot more sense to me. I was still working full-time at the time and I just didn’t have the resources to take 4 weeks out to take one of the in-person TEFL certification courses. The TEFL Institute of Ireland turned out to be a solid choice. The school website is very easy to navigate and it was easy to enroll and begin the course. No fussing around with long application forms or anything like that. It took me 5 weeks to complete all the very interesting modules and then I received the certificate roughly a couple of weeks later. TEFL Institute of Ireland don’t offer job placement services abroad but they will help you with very useful information. They helped me to decide upon Vietnam as a potential teaching English destination and after a further couple of weeks of research, I decided that Vietnam was the country I would be choosing to travel to and teach in. I chose Hanoi because I read how overcrowded and congested HCMC is and that wasn’t what I signed up for. Hanoi on the other hand was way more chilled and I only had positive experiences when I lived there. I can’t recommend Hanoi enough. I was earning roughly 20 US an hour and this meant I lived a comfortable life there. A meal in a mom-and-pop restaurant is only a dollar or so, so you can understand why 20 US an hour is such great money over there. I would recommend the TEFL Institute of Ireland as a reliable school to take your TEFL through.

I must admit that I didn’t do any research into different TEFL courses before I chose to take the one offered by (ITA) International TEFL Academy. There are just so many and I just didn’t have the time or patience to compare each and every one of them. In the end, ITA was mostly a good fit for me.

Having now (ironically) done a bit of research (after completing the course) into other programs, I can see that the main 2 ways that ITA is different from a lot of other ones are in price and flexibility.

Price wasn’t really an issue for me because someone else paid for the study for me, but if I were paying myself then I’d most definitely have done a price comparison between courses beforehand. I think the ITA course costs in the region of $1,000. It’s not a significant amount of money but is still sizeable when compared to some other options I’ve seen.

Regarding the flexibility thing, I’ve noticed that most TEFL courses don’t seem to have exact start and end dates. ITA does, and this might be a barrier to people who are working while they study.

Despite these 2 relatively minor points, I enjoyed my ITA study experience.

Some sections were more difficult than others, but all in all, I would say that this wasn’t a particularly difficult course to pass, and as long as you follow the course timetable and tutor instructions you should do fine with this option.

An engaging course that teaches the fundamentals of ESL tuition in a fun, educational format.

The company is based out of Colorado and from what I gather they have school contacts around the globe. My parents moved to the USA when I was little and I began learning English from a young age, so I was thrilled when Bridge TEFL accepted me onto the course. I found the grammar sections to be a bit too easy, but the rest of the course content was structured extremely well and was very thought-provoking.

In the end, I passed the course and received my certificate a couple of weeks later. I’m still looking for teaching work online. It’s not that I couldn’t have started working already. It’s just that I’m holding back until a better-paying job comes my way.

This was an enjoyable course and the ability to take it all online was the contributing factor to my 5-star review.
