I recently completed the English as a Second Language (ESOL) teaching program online with CIEE and it was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. The convenience of completing the study section of the course at your own pace made the whole thing possible for a busy person like me. The “in-person” teaching classes were arranged via Zoom. These were a lot less flexible but I was prepared for this as I understood that I would have to take into account the available schedules of my students. It was not easy. Between work, family, friends, and downtime it was tough. But the ability to start and stop when you want/can as opposed to having to travel in-person for the training was a no-brainer to choose CIEE. Best of all, it is affordable. In total, I paid $1,100 for the entire training program. If you are planning on changing career paths and switching to teaching ESOL but don’t have the time, I would recommend CIEE. Just be prepared though that like any online program you are responsible for yourself, only you can get it done for you. I had support from my family and this helped me through the days when I was finding it difficult to juggle work and study. I haven’t used the certification yet but I do plan on using it in the not-so-distant future. I enjoyed my CIEE TESOL experience and I know the certification will come in useful for later adventures.
