The outstanding feature of this course was how it clearly explained grammar. I grew up having English as my mother tongue and thought I would know everything about grammar before taking the TEFL course. After the first few modules, I realized that my grammar knowledge had many holes in it and I put this down to schools not addressing grammar that intensively in our school system. As an example, I had no idea what Present Perfect or Past Perfect was and I certainly had no idea how to explain the differences between these grammar points to another person. This course showed me that by using things like timelines I can explain the differences and also once you do start reading about grammar it honestly does become more and more interesting. The course also covered Phonetics and this topic was one of my favorites. I also learned how to create lesson plans and learned how to condense my teaching material down to 45/60/90 minutes. If I hadn’t taken the TEFL, if I had just decided to wing it without the qualification, I doubt I would have lasted that long before my students began calling me out on my lack of knowledge and inability to teach. The course is short (1 month) but is a fantastic starter course for TEFL teaching.

The course looked a little intimidating at first, having absolutely no past experience in teaching at all, but as soon as I started I realized that the course had been designed for people like myself, with no previous teaching experience. That’s not to say this course was easy. It wasn’t. but the way the lessons are structured makes it relatively easy to navigate through the course stages and I thought the materials were presented really well. The parts where I got stuck the most were when it came to grammar. Understanding the grammar rules was just a matter of reading and taking in the information, but the difficult part was in understanding the techniques of how to present and teach the grammar. I learned that timelines are really useful tools for this and I always use one when teaching grammar time tenses to students. Another area where I slipped up a bit was phonetics. The table of phonemes can seem overwhelming at first. My advice here is not to worry about trying to memorize the whole table. I mean, you can if you want to, but just having it at hand when teaching, as a reference chart, is absolutely acceptable and the phonetic chart is very useful for pronunciation classes because it simplifies the process of explaining how sounds in English are voiced. I think because there is so much information contained within the course that no one can realistically expect to absorb all the information, and I found that learning and teaching is an ongoing process as I teach more and more classes and gain more and more experience. This course though was an excellent introduction to teaching and I have no regrets about choosing ITTO.

I just finished the Tefl course from Ciee Tefl. I’m probably quite a lot older (in my mid-50s) than the average age of a Tefl student I guess. Despite this, I managed to make my way through the course without coming up against any significant challenges. There was a tutor available online who gave great support anyway, so if I weren’t sure about something I would email them and ask for their advice or recommendations. I completed the course with a high final grade. If I can do it then anyone can. I wouldn’t say the course is that difficult. There were moments – mainly to do with grammar topics – when I felt out of my depth, but it was never so complicated that I felt I couldn’t work out how to understand the information. It also helped that I could apply the new knowledge when I created the lesson plans because this showed me how I was improving in real-world metrics.

I am 100% satisfied with my CIEE course purchase and feel lucky I found this online program.

The curriculum is good and a lot of thought has obviously gone into its development. The assignments promote reflective learning and student confidence. Some sections were very difficult (Grammar) but on the whole, I would say it is a well-balanced course that isn’t too easy or too difficult. The virtual teaching staff is engaging and helpful but of course, the online experience still lacks the rich social environment of face-to-face engagement. On the other hand, though, the distance learning possibility was the only way I could manage to complete an intensive study course like this and still manage to work full-time, so I am not complaining at all. If I had to choose whether to take the course again, I would repeat it.

This is a self-paced course with phenomenal feedback on coursework assignments. The coursework is mainly creating lesson plans, which are an essential feature for planning any English class. As I progressed through the course, my lesson plans began to contain more and more complex information but I was still able to condense something like the Present Perfect into a coherent 60-minute lesson plan.

The main thing this course taught me was to plan every lesson and structure every lesson. As long as you follow these two rules, you significantly avoid teaching a poor lesson and my students do appreciate that I take the time to plan my classes.

I had detailed feedback on all of my lesson plans, together with pointers about where there was room for improvement.

With a universal lesson plan template, you can teach any subject to any class.

You need to buy a good grammar book so when a student tries to test your knowledge you can be ready with an answer. A lot of my students are grammar nerds I don’t mind it. As long as they are willing to test me it shows they are being motivated to learn something from me.

I’m guessing that over time, I will rely less and less on my grammar book, but I’ll still keep a hold of it because some of the grammar I’m expected to teach just blows my mind.

OISE does write that you can’t possibly be expected to know all English grammar examples and not to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of different grammar themes.

My advice is to start by learning the time tenses and prepositions and then gradually increase your knowledge in other areas of grammar.

This a great course for anyone about to start a TEFL job!

I completed the 120-hour certificate through TEFL online pro. Wasn’t sure where to begin when choosing a TEFL course. After extensive research and lots of reading through reviews, I chose TEFL online pro because of its customer feedback. The price was also a big factor because I am currently a student. Got the course at a discounted price due to a special feature on the website. I like the way the course is structured; you slowly build up from the basics to more advanced topics. I also liked the grammar section as it can be tricky for ESL students to learn. Hugely productive is that you use the content from the modules to make your lesson plans. I learned a lot about managing a classroom, creating fun activities for students, and encouraging and motivating a class. Your module knowledge is tested by quizzes, which are straightforward and don’t have any trick questions. They were fun to complete. I also liked the two bonus sections at the end of the course. I know some courses I was looking at charge extra for the bonus modules. What’s great about this certificate program is the prompt online help. My lesson plans were graded in just a day or two and included detailed feedback from the course instructor. The course is structured so you can complete it within your own time. This is helpful as I am a full-time student and work as well. I completed the certificate in about a month and I was grateful that I could work on it during my spare time. An hour here, and an hour there. Was sent my certificate the same day I completed the course. Additionally, I also have a letter of recommendation which will be helpful for my job search. Am currently applying for jobs and I am grateful for the knowledge I gained from the course and the ongoing support.
