Vantage TEFL Certification review, submitted by Steve.

At the time I wanted to study for my TEFL certification, but I was worryingly low on funds and time. This prevented me from taking an In-class course, so instead, I chose to take the Combined TEFL course offered through the Vantage program, based out of Bangkok.

It afforded me the flexibility with which my budget dictated by making it possible to take the method section of the TEFL course online, and then I was able to choose one of the time dates for my trip to Thailand to complete the observed teaching practice.

I’m not sure whether a Combined course is for everyone because it does add those extra costs. Still, I wanted to get my feet wet before I dived fully in so traveling to the country to take the observed teaching sessions where I wanted to be teaching sat well for me and was worth the additional investment.

Finding work after the course was not an issue.

I started teaching at a couple of schools and teaching a few private students, in the Bangkok central district. The pay is the highest in the country here, but I couldn’t get used to the frenetic pace and humidity of Bangkok.

I’m now teaching up in Chiang Mai and it is SO much more mellow up here.

Teaching Bangkok if you love major cities and spending hours in traffic jams. Teach in Chiang Mai if you value air quality and about a hundred yoga studios to choose from

I liked that Vantage Thailand is accredited, the initial evaluation, and the level of support that the program itself had. Enrolling was fairly simple. I graduated from high school in ’94, so I hadn’t taken a class in what seemed like an eternity. I had been out of the classroom for that period. It was difficult for me to acclimate at first, but I thought that the way Vantage had the classes set up was to get you acclimated. From the first couple of classes, everything was very well organized so it got you acclimated to writing and using the resources. The first few classes got you using all of the available things. I was a better student/teacher by the final module than I was at the beginning. Vantage is generally considered to be the best option for in-class or combined TEFL course options in Thailand. They have their main school located in downtown Bangkok but have other contacts all around the country. So if your long-term plan isn’t to teach in Bangkok, there are still other options open around the country, and Vantage helps with this.

I apologize for the lateness in writing this review but I just remembered about it because I just got accepted to a new job and when I glanced at my certificate, I remembered I promised to write a review of the program. I took the course in the middle of the pandemic and was offered to take the practicum section online, teaching English to online students. I must say that Vantage TEFL Certification (Vantage Siam) was very accommodating and flexible and helped me find the students to teach. The course was brilliant, as was the customer service. If I ever make it to Bangkok, I’ll be certain to pop in and thank everyone in person. Recommended school for the international teaching certificate!

This is primarily a teaching course for anyone wanting to teach English in Thailand. How it works is that you take an online course through Vantage TEFL online (took mine when I had free time at the weekends) and then you travel to Thailand to complete your basic teaching practice.

They do make it seem that they are the only ones doing this type of course in Thailand, but after a simple search, I found a whole load of other schools offering either the same or similar courses.

I’d just choose an online course, travel to Thailand (if that’s where you want to teach) and then it’s just so easy to find work. If you can’t find work in Thailand, you won’t find work anywhere.

So because of this, I am giving Vantage TEFL three stars. In retrospect, I could have saved on the teaching component and just got a job with a regular 120-hour TEFL certification course.

Vantage TEFL is a great option if you plan on working in Thailand because they also run an in-class course in Bangkok so if you need any help you can schedule a meeting and they will make time for you. They have an excellent reputation within Thailand and this goes a long way in job interviews.

The online segment was OK. There were occasional glitches in the system but I managed to scoot around these with ease. The 6-hour teaching practicum (in Thailand) was amazing. I got so much feedback in so little time and they even helped craft my resume to make it more professional.

Finding teaching positions in Thailand isn’t something that you need to worry about. There are jobs galore here. A great program, a great country, a great life
