Teaching in Prague.

I always wanted to teach in Western/Central Europe. I majored in English Literature and the romantic in me envisioned myself either sipping coffee on the banks of the Seine or chugging down glasses of absinthe on the banks of the Vltava. The absinthe won the romantic duel as it is far easier to find teaching work in the Czech Republic. Paris is a beautiful city, but it just seemed so expensive to live there on an ESL teacher’s salary. I chose the TEFL Online Pro program because they said they could help land me a job in Prague. I took their 120-hour course because I didn’t have any teaching experience at the time. I still don’t have any teaching experience because I’m not scheduled to start my teaching job in Prague until mid-July, but I’ve already managed to learn a few local phrases and Paul from the office put me in touch with a few of their grads already teaching over there. The course was pretty good. Probably your standard TEFL course. They provide lots of support, so you never get the feeling you are being left to your own devices. Paul also helped me with getting all my ducks lined up in a row in terms of the visa and also by advising me on which schools should be avoided and which are the ones worth applying to. I’ve signed two teaching contracts for two different schools, so I’m going to be hitting the Prague ground running. I’ve read that it’s pretty normal to teach for more than one school over there and it’s beneficial for the teacher anyway as it provides more job security. I have been so impressed with the support from TEFL Online Pro. They seem to care and are very knowledgeable in all things TEFL. I can’t wait to get started!

I’ve given 3 stars because the course was good and I’ve left 2 stars out because I’ve not needed job placement help so can’t comment or rate that side of the school’s services. I was stupidly teaching without any TEFL certificate because I thought you could find a job just with a passport from an English-speaking country. I did find a job in Prague and it did pay ok. The problem is that working under the table I didn’t have any access to free health or holiday pay so when I was sick I didn’t get paid for the time off. Also, I always had to be on my toes because I knew they could fire me at a moment’s notice and I wouldn’t have any chance to complain because I was technically working illegally. So I took the first TEFL course I found online and in a few weeks, I had the TEFL certificate. What I did after that was get teaching work with a different school, where I am on the books, and now I pay my taxes and reap the rewards of the social support system the Czechs provide. I don’t recommend anyone to teach without the TEFL unless you are just working for a few months. The course wasn’t expensive, it only took a few weeks to complete, and I can now apply for jobs anywhere. TEFL is 100% the way to go.

TEFL Prague.

Arrived in Prague last week. First time in Europe and my first time overseas. Got here a few weeks early to sort my accommodation out before my classes start in September. So far, so good. Haven’t had an induction day so far per se, but have met with the school principal and she was very nice. The school where I’m going to be teaching is an agency located on Vodickova Street in Prague 1. I’ve been told that I’ll only be teaching a handful of hours at the school’s head office location and the rest I’ll teach one-on-one at offices and companies around the city. It’s cheap here. How cheap? Yesterday I and a few of the other recruits went out for goulash and a beer and we paid the equivalent of only $4.75 US each. I wasn’t too fond of the goulash but the beer was awesome! I keep hearing the Czechs make the best beer in the world! I agreed to sign a one-year contract so I guess I’ll have enough time to get used to goulash properly. Prague is beautiful. Also, so far, everyone we have met has been polite and friendly. They go out of their way to make you feel at home here. The guidebook said the opposite would be true, but so far I’ve only met cool people. Lots of bohemian coffee shops and cafes here too. I wrote this review to say thank you to teflonlinepro.com for making all this possible. Without the TEFL course, I would have been stuck in the same job. Without Paul Murphy’s help and advice, I might have just stayed at home and taught online. Instead, I’m literally in the heart of Europe, and although it sounds like a cliche I am enjoying every moment of my time here. Looking forward to the rest of the teaching year!

Teaching English in Prague i-to-i TEFL review, submitted by Catherine.

It took me a while to decide whether I should take my TESOL (TEFL) course online or in class. I wanted to be teaching English in Prague. Prague, btw, is the capital city of the Czech Republic (Czechia). I spent time searching through forums and Reddit to see if I needed to fork out so much money on one of the in-class courses that quite a few schools run in the city. Some answers suggested an Online TESOL would be fine. Some answers suggested (more strongly) that an Online TESOL wouldn’t be accepted in Prague and that only the in-class TESOL courses are recognized. Apparently, and I’m not certain if this is true or not, the Prague in-class TESOL schools are the people writing most of the pro-in-class answers. Again, I’m not certain if this is the case, but I do know now that this isn’t good information.

I took my Online TESOL with i-to-i TEFL. I saw some programs labeling it TEFL and others labeling it TESOL. It’s the same course with a different name. The i-to-i course was great! It taught me everything I needed to know about teaching English, and when I applied for jobs in Prague, I didn’t come up against any barriers with my Online certification.

I’m teaching English in Prague from September. Yay!

The money is OK. It’s not as much as I’ve read that you can earn in Asia. But I wanted to remain in Europe and perhaps later I’ll travel further afield. By taking the TESOL online, I saved a small fortune compared to if I had chosen to take one of the city’s in-class courses. My advice is to take the TESOL online.

With so many online tefl options to choose from it took weeks to research and narrow down three which I could then choose one from.

MyTEFL – tefl online pro – OISE University of Toronto TEFL

All 3 appeared to have excellent reputations online.

To my disappointment though, I read the MyTEFL scam posts so they were immediately off the list. Anyway, I thought they offered a combined course training program but it turns out they just provide distance learning, with no teaching practice possibilities.

I liked the look of the OISE University of Toronto TEFL and saw their number 1 ranking. But the high course fees were a bit too high for me. If they charged half of what they now do, I would seriously have considered them to be my number 1 choice.

So I was left with tefl online pro, which won a teachers’ award last year, and they also offer the combined online/in-class course (Hybrid) so I bit the bullet, enrolled, and received immediate access to the course, plus a nice-touch personalized email from their operations manager. They were the cheapest combined courses that my research came up with.

Overall, I am very happy with the choice I made.

Everything was personalized. So if I had a question, I would send a private message to my tutor (Sarah) and she would 99% of the time respond within a few hours. Not just an automated blah blah response, but a human response that addressed the question of the issue raised. And I did ask a lot of questions But that’s just me. I invested $549 and wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t fail. $549 is a lot of money for me.

I can attest to the other reviews that I read online about the course that it is modern, sleek, informative, and covers everything from grammar tenses to lesson planning assignments.

The feedback on my lesson assignments was constructive, helpful, and motivating. This was the star of the online part of the course because they guide you through the correct way to plan classes, using the PPP teaching system, and by the time I was ready to submit final lesson plan number 2, I completely picked up on how to plan classes in terms of timing, objectives, time management, and how to present, practice, and produce language in class time effectively.

It was great fun when complete a quiz at the end of each module.

I must admit though that the in-person teaching practice side of the course wasn’t that well described in much detail, so this was a constant niggle in the back of my mind as I got closer to finishing the 120 hours of the online section of the course. This is an area in which I think they should make it a bit clearer on their school pages.

I took a flight to Prague once the online work was done and I was assured that they would help me find students to practice there, to complete my 20 hours of in-person teaching. I have always wanted to live in Prague and heard it was an easy place to find teaching jobs.

Within a few days of arriving, I received an email from Paul. He wrote down where I would be teaching, and who I would be teaching, and added some local tips for moving around in the city. I was to teach half my lessons at a gymnasium (high school) located near the Old Town Square, and half at a Czech/German company on the outskirts of the city. This was worked out so that I would be gaining the experience of teaching (General English) groups (teenagers in the mornings and afternoon group lessons with the general public) and individual (Business English) lessons at the company.

Despite still having full access to the online course materials, I tripped up a little in my first few classes, but then after around lesson 8, I found my footing and got on with it like a duck to water.

After completing the 20 hours I was offered a part-time job through one of my Business English students, and the week after I had 5 interviews lined up with AGAIN 3 to choose from

I chose the language school that offered the most money and flexibility, so I could work around my Business English classes.

I began the course on 3rd January 2020 and now on March 6th, as I write this (rather long) review, I find myself in the fortunate position of working full-time hours and having to say no to new classes.

It is important to have a TEFL certificate. Well, to teach here in Prague anyway. Because in all 5 interviews, they asked to see either the original or the copy.

I don’t think taking just an online course would really have made much difference in the outcome of my interviews, but taking the combined course got my foot in the door and saved me a lot of time had I arrived without having those student contacts available.

I would like to add that it’s very unusual in this day and age for such a personalized experience with a business. And it’s also unusual for a business to go so much out of its way to make sure that their customer succeeds.

I’ve got about an hour between classes to write this review, so please excuse me if I suddenly need to abruptly end it.

After much deliberation, I chose to take the Professional (120-hour course) offered through tefl online pro and my main motivation for this was based on the consistently excellent reviews that this program was receiving.

Throughout my experience with them, I kept thinking to myself that this is how all companies should aim to adhere to wonderful communication and always be helpful and professional.

I think the original cost of the course was something like $299, but I received a 30% discount through their summer discount promotion, so I only paid something like $209 for the complete package.

There were no complications with signing up. Very easy in fact. After asking a few questions I was directed to their Enroll page and the whole process of payment was completed in under 5 minutes. They didn’t try to upsell me to a more expensive course and were completely upfront with me throughout the whole process.

Literally, a few minutes later I received my course order payment confirmation, with another email confirming my login username and password, and within 15 minutes of making payment, I was in and up and started on my first module.

I really loved the thought and effort that had obviously gone into designing such a user-friendly online study course. Yes, you do need to study the modular content, but then at the end of each module, there is a fun quiz that made the experience of learning the modular content really effective. Once I’d completed the first module, I was automatically granted access to the second, and so on. I also liked how the quiz highlighted any incorrect questions and gave the correct answer version.

The materials covered were obviously written by someone who has a lot of EFL experience because the natural flow of the content made a lot of sense as you then began the next module and were able to clearly see the path to how English should be taught systematically and effectively.

To begin with, I had a few questions and what I also loved is their messaging system. If you have a question, you just write a message on the module page you are on and within less than an hour I received a full response. This saved the time of going back and forth with email support which I hear other programs adopt.

When I’d completed the final task I received immediate notification of my final grade, received my certificate and a fancy-looking recommendation letter, and then was handed over to their International Job Guidance Team who didn’t just give me a list of schools like other schools do that I’ve read online. Instead, a Skype meeting was set up and I had a face-to-face consultation that went on for over an hour, asking where I would like to teach, what I would like ideally expect to be earning, etc.

A few more skype meetings were arranged and by the 4th one (if my recollection is correct) I was able to confirm that a 5th wouldn’t be necessary as I’d been accepted to start teaching in Prague from January (of this year).

tefl online pro helped me with all the essential red tape visa info and even did a background check on the language school to make sure that I was making a good choice of school to teach for. And, they are going to help me with obtaining my business license so I can also teach privately and (eventually) try setting up my very own language school.

When I speak to other teachers at my school and discuss my TEFL training experience some of them feel a little jaded; having spent thousands for a residential course that offered far less than my online course did.

I am just so effin’ happy with the whole experience and can’t recommend this online TEFL program enough. Super!

I thought this was a very good course. Easy to navigate. Detailed course content. The price was fair. Course support was available. I was able to use the certification without issues during my job search for teaching work overseas.

Prague was always my first teaching English location choice and I just went for it. Nobody ever asked to see my certification. Schools just wanted to know if I had a TEFL certificate and/or any teaching experience.

So glad I decided to save the $$$ and take an online TEFL course and UK TEFL came through for me.

ITA Online TEFL Review.

Excellent course and has very good general support. ITA also offers you the opportunity of taking your teaching practice course segment as a kind of placement abroad. I’m considering maybe taking mine in Prague, Czech Republic. Although the school which they partner with there (The Language House Prague) seems to be run by someone named Chris who I’ve seen making many derogatory comments online about Online TEFL courses in general. I guess these must have been written before they teamed up with ITA. ITA also has partners in other countries too, so it really provides you with a wide amount of choices.

Be warned though that this course isn’t for slouchers. It is INTENSE and they really make you work for your certificate. Courses begin at the start of each month and each course is assigned a course teacher, there to act as a kind of personal tutor.

Which would you rather study? An easy course that doesn’t really teach you anything? Or an intense course that fully trains you up for life as a teacher of English? I’d choose the latter.

My only concern was the course price, which is much higher than similar programs out there.

If you are a sucker for glossy websites with very little real substance then this is the perfect tefl and tesol certification course for you.

It’s true that the International TEFL Academy covers all of the basics. You will get to familiarize yourself with grammar and teaching techniques, but it is far from being the 170-hour course they advertise it to be and costs a lot more than other similar courses offered by their competitors. Also, it isn’t the most academic of courses… my intelligence felt a bit insulted by the simplicity of some written tasks.

Once I signed up and paid, the communication began to drip until by the time I was ready to start receiving help with finding work it was almost impossible to get hold of anyone at all… they seem to have a lot of staff dedicated to maintaining their marketing machine and encouraging people to sign up for their courses, but very few to focus on their paying customers.

I got a teaching job… no thanks to ITA. It isn’t the best-paying job around because I had absolutely no help and limited knowledge about wages, hours, and language schools before moving to Italy. I also wasn’t aware of the 90-day Schengen visa rule.

International TEFL Academy’s online tefl and tesol course isn’t a complete waste of time. You will receive a certificate at the end of the course and schools will accept it. But it seems schools will accept any old tefl certificate so there really is no need to pay so much money for a subpar program. And make sure to have access to international job guidance. You WILL need it!
