Great course! Pricier than others, but don’t let that put you off. It provided me with all the tools I will need when I begin teaching English. OISE TEFL has a number of tutors that will support you along the way and answer any questions you have. The course is geared toward teaching adults but I believe you can pay for additional courses which cover teaching younger learners. I had as long as I wanted to complete the course because there isn’t a set start and end date to the course. My only regret is I went too quickly through the first few modules until I found my pace and I wish I hadn’t because I missed out on some important content in those first few modules. The course has opened the door for me to teach English anywhere in the world.

The course teaches everything you need to know when you are training to be a teacher of English. It covers the PPP teaching method, as well as the TTT method. PPP is Presentation, Practice, and Production. TTT is Teacher Talking Time. The PPP method is like gold because it forces you to divide your lessons into bite-sized chunks that enable you as the teacher to present the topic of the lesson and it enables your students to practice what they have been taught and then create their own examples. It’s the best method that I’ve come across because it is so effective in knowledge retention. With regard to TTT, I’ve seen a few lessons where the teacher did most of the talking. English classes should be a forum where the students do the majority of the talking. The TTT method teaches you how to reduce your Teacher Talking Time so that the students get their chance to practice their language skills. the teacher doesn’t need to practice their speaking.

To sum everything up: an excellent course that prepares you for the next step, which is teaching in a classroom and being a teacher with all the necessary skills needed to be a very good teacher. With the certificate, you can teach online and overseas, which is another bonus of this program. My only concern is the cost of the course and the certificate. It’s expensive. On the other hand, you will learn everything you need to know and this course must be far superior to the ones I saw advertised on Groupon for $20. Seriously, if you are going to get TEFL qualified then invest in a quality course. The OISE TEFL program offers a quality course.

The OISE Tefl course was the most expensive online course I could find and I naturally assumed that price and quality go hand in hand. Looking back on it now, I wish I had just gone for a much cheaper course because, for the steep price tag, you basically get what you would have gotten with one of the many other online Tefl courses out there.

If asked what my overall impression of the course was, it would have to be the repetitiveness of the course content. It felt to me that over 70% of the content was regurgitated in other sections of the course and it felt that this was to give the impression of a much fuller, in-depth course.

It’s also required that you submit a whole load of written assignments, but these are not marked and I cynically supposed that these were only required to give the impression again that the course was comprehensively in-depth. If I’m honest, I don’t think any of my written assignments were ever even looked at by another pair of eyes once I’d submitted them.

I also noticed that the woman who convinced me to take this course (Christie Vantol whom I was following on Quora) is clearly affiliated with OISE and Teach Away. Teach Away btw is the company OISE works with to find their Tefl course graduates jobs. What I’ve since discovered is that what they don’t tell you is that this company makes money off of your job placement. So yeah, you end up shelling out even more money to find a teaching job.

I would love to recommend OISE TEFL, but I just can’t. I mean, why the hell would someone want to pay much more for something they can get for much cheaper elsewhere?
