Choosing this online TEFL course was a no-brainer really. Further down the road, I want to teach English in Japan and INTESOL has a brick-and-mortar school there so it was a perfect square shape in a square hole. I have taken online courses before and considered the ones which I had taken as being over-priced cons: they were never difficult to complete, were always very light on content, and left you feeling no more educated when finished. INTESOL Worldwide’s international online course on the other hand is the exact opposite of my prior experiences. The course is demanding, yet easy to follow. The course content is motivating and at the end of the course, I felt satisfied and confident. If I only had one niggle then it would be the silly pricing that they have on their school website. The course is described as usually costing £345.00 but I paid £175.00. Yep, the course is always 175. Other than this though, everything went smoothly and I can’t wait to start my teaching English abroad career over in Japan!

First time taking a training course online and it was great! Superb content with a fun multiple-choice quiz to complete each module before going onto the next one. I loved the support too! I had questions and they all got answered within a few minutes via the course messaging system. My tutor also took the time to give thorough feedback on my two (Module 6 and 11) lesson plans, which you submit via email to TEFL Online Pro.

I opted for the digital certificate and it was issued to me barely 24 hours after I’d completed the course. Came with a letter of recommendation too! The course certificate has its own unique number and looks so professional that I can understand why it is accepted worldwide. It doesn’t mention that the course was taken online and does include the logo of both the school and the accreditation body that fully accredits this program.

Post-course, I asked about teaching English options in Japan. Paul, the Operations Manager at the school, arranged for a Skype online chat so that I could ask all the questions I was wanting to find answers to. Currently applying to a number of schools in Tokyo. Two concrete job offers so far!

Also love that the certificate can be used for online teaching because I might want to teach some classes online in addition to my in-person hours.

Here is my Premier TEFL review.

I recently graduated from the course and I recommend the program for online TEFL training.

The course is divided into different modules, which I thought was a really effective structure. Because it is divided into modules, I could focus on one topic theme before moving on to the next. The organization of the course also helped me to retain an interest in the materials and maintain an overall positive level of motivation.

As with any online study, the way a course is approached will ultimately influence the grade achieved. I approached the course with a promise to myself that I would work on it for at least two hours a day and that I would research TEFL materials in addition to the ones presented in the course. That way I would avoid falling behind and risking not completing on time. In the end, it only took three weeks to complete all the modules.

I didn’t think the course was too easy or too difficult. It struck the right balance between the two.

My short-term plan is going to be to accumulate some online students. There does seem to be a lot of work available so I’m not worried about not being able to find an online job. Longer term, I hope to be able to move abroad and teach in Japan. The wages are higher in Japan than in most other countries and I love Japanese culture. With my TEFL certificate and my bachelor’s degree, I don’t foresee having any issues with finding teaching work there.

This is a solid course from an established school and helped pave the way for me to start teaching English in Japan.

I decided to take their Hybrid Online/Onsite course, which meant 120 hours of methodology and 20 hours of practical teaching practice. I could have just gone with the (Professional) 120-hour course but I thought why not shell out a bit more and get some teaching under my belt first before heading overseas?

The methodology section of the course is very well designed and logically leads you through all the core TEFL components. In other words, through everything you need to have a very good overview of if you want to teach English. It covers things like grammar, phonetics, and lesson planning. Plus, you also get to cover a couple of lessons which focus on Business English and teaching children.

Personal tutor support comes with the course at no extra charge and although I hardly used the support, it was good to know it was there readily available should I have needed it.

TEFL Online Pro’s job guidance support is very, very, very good. I knew I wanted to teach in Japan but didn’t really know where to begin looking. They explained all the essentials to me and helped me through the whole process of finding a well-paid job in Nagoya. I didn’t want to experience such cold winters, so Nagoya turned out to be an excellent choice.

If you are thinking about doing your TEFL then Tefl Online Pro should be at the top of your list. Recommended!

In all fairness, tefl express should receive 2.5 stars but there wasn’t an option on here for me to do that. 3 stars it is then.

Also, I saw a link to this site when I was up late and flicking through Quora and I haven’t recently finished the course. I completed my tefl express 160-hour (premier plus) tefl course a few years down the road now so my impressions might not necessarily be valid for a tefl express course in 2019. Either way, I have a bit of time on my hands and wanted to share my impressions with anyone out there thinking of purchasing the course I took.

I noticed some other reviewers on this site have been categorizing their reviews into pros and cons so that is what I am also going to do in my tefl express review.

Pros

1. This first one might be a potential negative for some but for me, it worked out to be a major positive. Basically, you get 75 days to complete the course from the moment your study time is activated and I think that although for some people this might throw up some serious issues down the line, from my perspective it helped motivate me to get on with the course and force me to get it done within a reasonable time frame. I had a mate who had 6 months to complete his and well, he spent 6 months on his course; taking his time until the last fortnight when he studied like a fiend so he wouldn’t have to pay an extension fee. I found my enthusiasm decreased after I’d paid, logged in and when the reality of what I was undertaking reality hit me, so this condensed time period was the perfect way to set a fire under my butt and make sure I didn’t lose focus.
2. Despite what others have said in their reviews of the tefl express program, I thought the course was pretty extensive and from time to time I still refer back to my original course notes when I can’t find a similar reference point online.
3. I’m teaching English overseas (Nagoya, Japan) and although my general impressions of tefl express were negative, I have met a few teachers who also went through the program so schools should recognize the tefl express name when it comes to applying for tefl jobs.

Cons

1. The big no-no for me was discovering my course offered in a Groupon deal with a significant discount. If I’d purchased through Groupon, I would have saved near on a couple of hundred bucks. Because of this business model, I felt cheated and began questioning the validity and reputation of tefl express.
2. There were multiple times when I couldn’t log on or when there was a bug in the system. This left me extremely frustrated because I set aside certain study times for myself and not being able to always study when I wanted to heap more pressure on that limited course limit.
3. I would say that I came away with a slightly bitter taste in my mouth after finding out at the end that I was required to make an additional payment for a hard copy of my certificate. Guess I should have read the small print. It was only about 30 bucks, but I felt taken advantage of. My certificate though did arrive in a matter of days and does look professional. Well, these were my impressions. As I wrote, I can’t vouch for how the school is run now as I took my tefl express online certification a few years back. Hope it helps! John.
