150-Hour TESOL Online.

Here is my review of Learn TEFL’s 150-Hour TESOL Online ‘Master’ course.

In hindsight, I made the mistake of trying to save $$$ by zoning in on a teaching English training deal on Groupon that at the time just seemed too good to be true. But I was blinded by the huge 86% discount which was pushed at the time as being a limited-time offer, and which has since been on a limited-time offer for the many months since I took this sloppy course.

Among some of the content claimed to come with the Learn TEFL course, include ’12 Comprehensive Modules’, ‘Job Assistance’, ‘Personalised Tutor Access’, and ’24/7 accessibility from any device’.

I was able to complete each module in under an hour. Definitely not ‘comprehensive’

There was no ‘job assistance’. When you complete the course, Learn TEFL closes your account and that’s the end of any communication with the company.

I didn’t receive any ‘Personalised Tutor Access’.

The course was accessible 24 hours a day, but the course works best on a laptop. It works patchy on an iPad. Forget trying to complete any of the courses on your phone. The course isn’t responsive enough for any work on a phone.

The certificate Learn TEFL issue can’t be legalized. Well, mine wasn’t accepted when I needed it legalized for the teaching job I was accepted for.

You really get what you pay for. A course that is on a constant 86% discount just won’t cut it for you. It didn’t cut it for me. The cheap cheap cheap online TESOL courses might seem like incredible deals, but they are incredible deals for a reason.

To conclude. A Learn TEFL course is going to be a waste of money and time.

You might be able to get some work with the certificate, but most institutions won’t take you seriously if you have it on your resume.

I learned the hard way. Please don’t make the same mistake as I did.

A good example of a dirt cheap TEFL course that will provide you with TEFL certification but without all the bells and whistles. Nothing really of depth in the course and I wouldn’t recommend this program to anyone really wanting to get much out of their training. I just needed a TEFL certificate from the Chinese authorities, so for me, this was a good choice. It only took me a couple of days to complete, and the certificate came within a reasonable amount of time. I can’t stress enough though that this is not a course for someone new to TEFL.

If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. The Learn TEFL course was on offer for under $20 and an adviser reached out to me to help me sign up for classes. They were extremely friendly and persistent with their help, and I thought this would be a good sign that Learn TEFL cares about its students. Unfortunately, they just want you to sign up and then you are completely on your own with no help or support. I began the course at 7:32 am on a Monday morning and by 5:45 pm that same day had completed the 150-hour TEFL certification course. I don’t know how Learn TEFL calculated the 150 hours that the course is meant to consist of. There are no video lectures or resources to help you learn deeper, and you won’t learn enough to really know anything about teaching English.

The only silver lining of the course was that I did become aware of just how complicated teaching grammar is.

I’m going to enroll in a more expensive course (which doesn’t cost $20) in the new year and get a recognized TEFL certificate which actually teaches the basics of how to teach. I’m giving Learn TEFL 2 stars because I did learn something and I consider that justice for the price I paid. I wouldn’t recommend the program though and I can’t understand how anyone could teach English after taking such a course that is so sparse on instruction.

I was teaching English online for a couple of years with my Learn TEFL 150 Hour Master Course Tefl/Tesol certificate and all was going well. The course itself was a bit too heavy on text reading, but I got through it and earned my certificate with a high grade. Learn TEFL even showed me places on the web where I could begin my online job search, which was really beneficial in getting me started. On a side note, I can recommend Palfish as a good company to teach for. They always paid me on time and for some reason, the students I got through them were more conscientious than my other students at other schools I taught for. So, for a few years, I was happy with the choice that I made to take the Tefl/Tesol with Learn TEFL.

Last year, though, I decided I’d had enough of teaching English online. You can call it burnout. Staring at a screen for too long and the long-term energy required to keep students motivated whilst being thousands of miles away contributed. Don’t get me wrong. I loved teaching online. But I think it’s only a viable option for one or two years and then the natural motivation leads you to want to explore new pastures. I had heard about the possibility of teaching English in China and applied for a bunch of positions on the East coast. Before I continue, a bit of background about myself. I have a college degree in Education, two year’s online teaching experience, plus, of course, the Learn TEFL certificate. But my applications were denied because my Learn TEFL certificate didn’t have a certificate number-making it was invalid for the employment process. When I contacted Learn TEFL, they offered to reissue my certificate, with a certification number, for $75. A reprint of a certificate I earned already for $75! In my mind this is extortion. What could I do? I had to bite the bullet and pay. The Learn TEFL 150-Hour Master Course might seem a good deal at first, but when you calculate all the extra costs it just isn’t worth it. When choosing a company to take your Online Tefl/Tesol course with, ask about whether they apply extra (hidden) costs. It will save you a headache later.

Is Learn TEFL legit?

Learn TEFL is not legitimate because it is not a Fully Accredited TEFL course provider.

It is accredited by IARC, which is not a reputable accreditation provider.

Think about it. Would you employ someone who spent under $100 on a 120-Hour TEFL certificate that was issued by a dodgy accreditation body?

Trusted TEFL Reviews’ advice is to invest a little bit more and obtain a Fully Accredited TEFL/TESOL certificate.

Is Learn TEFL Legit? Overpriced for what you receive.

A friend recommended I take the Learn TEFL 120 hours Online TESL course and I regretted taking her advice as soon as I started the course. OK, so it is quite cheap at $215 (US). that’s what I thought anyway until the end when they asked more for the certificate and more if I wanted help finding a job. FYI, it’s a very basic course. I just don’t understand how anyone could recommend this course when the content is so sparse on content and when it just isn’t possible to learn much without using other sources as reference tools. The study interface looks like it was hastily put together and I counted at least 10 typos contained within the module texts. This sort of sloppiness defined Learn TEFL for me. I’ve since read that some of the better Online TESL courses provide active tutor feedback. I didn’t receive this. If I had a question, I would send off a message/email and wouldn’t hold my breath for a reply. No responses came. They just take your money, let you get on with it, and then sting you at the end with their hidden fees. To be honest, I regret making this choice. Sure, you can probably use the certificate. I would have wanted to actually learn something meaningful about TEFL to be able to go into a classroom and feel I had the knowledge to conduct a class. I just don’t feel that way after taking this Learn TEFL 120-hour online course. My advice is to consider other Online TEFL course options before settling on this one.

‘I’m not rich enough to be able to afford cheap things’. I wish I had remembered this adage when I shelled out the $20 to take this course. As expected, the course wasn’t anything to write home about. but I kind of understood this when I purchased it. I mean $20 for a TEFL course???!!! Well, I stuck with it and had it all done and dusted within a couple of days. But again, I wasn’t surprised at all by how quickly it took me. And then came the important part of using the certification. I WAS able to get interviews, and I WAS successful in one of them. But, when it came time to notarize the certificate (something now required in China) my school notified me that it was denied. So I had to quickly take another online TEFL course – spending $200 in the process – and now all is OK. Please don’t assume, as I did, that you can afford to buy cheap things

LearnTEFL.com claim they ‘provide teacher training of the highest caliber.’ In reality, the webpage study area continually crashes, Pat does offer some assignment feedback, but of nothing of any real value, and the certificate looks like it was printed out from her HP bedroom printer. People, avoid this one. Invest in a bag of magic beans instead. Or just do your TEFL with another company.

It would have been much better having this course had been more user-friendly. Very dated platform and riddled with spelling mistakes. No real continuity of resources either as different parts of the course felt like they had been haphazardly put together for the sake of boosting the volume of course content. The online tutor assigned to my course could have been an automated reply robot for all I know as replies to my questions were prompt but disappointingly unhelpful. Purchased this course through Groupon and as a result paid under $50. Even at this reduced course price I still don’t feel I received anything close to value for money. I shall probably need to pay again for another TEFL course now as I learned very little with Learn TEFL.

The Learn TEFL Master 150 Hour was a pretty terrible course to take. It failed to cover any of the teaching topics in an easy-to-understand way and the tutor feedback wasn’t provided as promised. The price of the course suited my budget but because I was able to complete the whole course in one day I really didn’t feel that I got good value for money. This is a text-taught course and because of the need to scroll through pages and pages of text, it quickly became very monotonous after the first hour of study. The reason for taking this course though was just to get TEFL certified and that’s exactly what it did for me. However, I haven’t been successful in using the certificate in job interviews. I don’t think the certificate has a good reputation and if I’m honest it looks like it was printed off the internet. I would shop around for a better course if I were you. This is what I will do if I ever do decide to look again into teaching English abroad. I rate this program 1.5 from 5 stars. I don’t recommend it.
