I bought the 120-Hour with the expectation that MyTEFL offered the course with tutor support. There wasn’t any. Hence the low review. Despite this, the experience was overall good. There weren’t any issues purchasing the course and no issues getting access to the course. IMO the content of the course was presented clearly and in an understandable way. I’m a newbie to TEFL and I appreciated the step-by-step slow approach to the course. There also weren’t any issues getting the certificate. I just cannot justify spending that much money on a course where you are completely on your own. I haven’t asked for any help yet with finding a job. Maybe that will be a more personalized service. I do need to add that I did pass the course so it isn’t impossible to complete without tutor support. Just would have been much better if I’d had some help when questions arose and when I wasn’t sure of something. Came away with the feeling that it was overpriced for what you get.

MyTEFL certification. A really good course, but concerned about the accreditation status.

I chose MyTEFL because of the good things past students had to say about them on indeed.com. It was my first time taking any course online. I think I would have chosen to take the TEFL online anyway because I don’t feel the onsite version of the qualification offers that many additional advantages and the cost of taking it on-site is prohibitively expensive. The course was easy to navigate and full of information. There aren’t any instructional videos, but I didn’t mind that because there were many interesting diagrams and other graphics. I do think that videos can sometimes be beneficial for studying, but they can also be distracting. Based on the course alone, I would give the program 5 stars.

However, now I am now questioning the validity of their accreditation status. MyTEFL is accredited by OTTSA. From what I’ve recently managed to find out online, OTTSA was created by someone affiliated with the MyTEFL program – in Thailand, where MyTEFL is based – and the accreditation isn’t so well known outside of Southeast Asia. This could be an issue for me because I plan on teaching in Europe this summer. I’ve contacted MyTEFL about it, but so far nobody has returned my email.

A previous reviewer described the course as being like a TEFL mill. I definitely disagree. The MyTEFL certification course online was a pleasant learning experience and I felt confident to teach after with the knowledge and skills learned in the course. I’m just concerned about the international recognition of the accreditation.

Is MyTEFL Legit? The myTEFL certification course online was a reasonable choice.

I took the MyTEFL 120-hour TESOL course online, which with the 30% discount came to a little over 200 USD. This is a pretty much middle-of-the-road price for one of these online TESOL courses. I did notice some really really cheap ones being offered for as little as a few bucks, but I’m not such a fool as to fall for that one. I liken it to learning a language. Would I pay my tutor 5 USD per hour to teach me a language? No, I wouldn’t. So the My TEFL course price seemed fair, considering there were no brick-and-mortar buildings to attend. So I can see why these online TESOL courses are cheaper than the in-class ones because they have much lower overheads to take care of.

Apart from the odd typo and grammar mistakes contained within the MyTEFL 120-hour course content, I couldn’t fault the overall focus and instruction of the course. There are a variety of teaching areas covered, Curriculum Planning being the one I most enjoyed working through, but as an introductory course I did at times note to myself that it wasn’t challenging enough for someone like myself who had done some teaching before. For anyone venturing into teaching for the first time though it is a fair balance between the easy and more difficult tasks.

You are issued your certificate when you finish. To be quite honest, the certificate does look a bit like it was designed and printed by my nephew, but as far as I’m aware there is an option to purchase (at extra cost) a hardcopy printed version. I don’t know how much that costs. This is an average course in terms of the course content quality, the final certificate, and the amount of support provided for you, but compared with the dirt cheap TEFL/TESOL courses being advertised on places like Groupon, I’d take this MyTEFL course over them every time. Is MyTEFL legit? Yes, but with some reservations.

In my opinion, this is a very good program to take your online Tefl through. Everything is arranged online; meaning you avoid the inconvenience of needing to travel somewhere to take the classes. Everything about the course went smoothly and I don’t have anything negative to write. Never had any issues using the certificate so don’t listen to anyone who writes online that you absolutely must take an in-class course. Definitely recommend online Tefl.

MyTEFL 120-Hour TEFL/TESOL course review.

A bit of a mixed bag. MyTEFL has a lot (and I mean A LOT) of bloggers writing nice things about them online, but upon more careful inspection it became clear that those people are earning money through the MyTEFL affiliates program. So in my opinion, those bloggers aren’t a trusted source of feedback of the MyTEFL product. I do just want to add though that I was never sold the affiliates linking option, so perhaps they have stopped it now. Still, though, take with a pinch of salt any blog that recommends MyTEFL.

The course was actually very good. It’s designed really well and is really easy to follow. You basically read the text and then complete a quiz, and I really liked this setup. I read somewhere on the web about how a text-based course is inferior to a video-based course, but I feel this is nonsense. I learned a lot in this course.

Where they did let me down though was with their job support. It’s pretty non-existent and I am pretty sure this is because they are too busy now to devote their time to an individual’s needs. If you don’t need the job support then I would say go ahead and take this course, but if you think you’ll need job and visa support down the road then perhaps another TEFL program would be best for you.

I thought that for the amount of money, I paid and what I received, this was a good course without any of the red flags which I see some other schools are known for. It’s a bit of a mechanical process, in terms of paying and then that feeling of being part of the larger TEFL machine in the process, but you get what you pay for and I didn’t experience anything that would lead me to add anything negative about the program. The certificate arrived fast. This was the most important aspect for me.

Take anything you read online about this company with a healthy cup of skepticism. It seems like any person who has ever wanted to teach abroad and travel has taken their course with MyTEFL but you need to understand that these people are part of their affiliate program and are being PAID to promote MyTEFL. If you read any MyTEFL review with a coupon code added (something like SAVE 35% when you enter COUPON CODE) you can be sure the person just wants to earn their commission, paid by MyTEFL. I took their 120-Hour Online course and thought it was pretty meh. Not much in the way of employment help in the end either. At best an average experience. Definitely is not a 5-star review from me.
