120-Hour TEFL Certification MyTEFL review, submitted by Evan.

120-Hour TEFL Certification. Evan’s MyTEFL review.

So many TEFL courses out there! It was a small nightmare trying to choose which one to take. In the end, I narrowed my list down to just two: MyTEFL and TEFL Online Pro. I ended up choosing MyTEFL simply because they were offering me a 50% course discount, because of my recent college graduate status.

To begin with, MyTEFL was very responsive to emails and the telephone call I made to their Vancouver office. They explained everything very clearly, confirming everything written on their website; that the course is exceptional, that there is amazing support throughout the course, that they go out of their way to help with job hunting, etc. I was initially impressed! But then reality hit.

The quick, helpful responses abruptly stopped at the moment of purchasing the (120-hour) MyTEFL course. It was in stark contrast to before I signed up. No matter how many emails I sent, asking valid questions about the course system, I never got a reply back. And yes, I did check my Junk/Spam. I then decided to call them, like when I had, before I paid for the course, and they just brushed me off with a short reply to my question which didn’t help me at all.

In total, I completed just over half the course. Within that time, I received no feedback on any of my work. It felt like I was studying blind. The 6 or so modules which I did complete, I completed in just a few days. It was ridiculously easy. Read a boring text. Answer some multiple-choice questions. Repeat.

The thing is, I didn’t just take the course to get a certificate. I chose MyTEFL because of what student blogs wrote about the course; it educates you in TEFL to a top level. It doesn’t, and I question the authenticity of those MyTEFL student blogs.

After I had finished the sixth module, and when I read through the 7th and saw a few glaring grammar and spelling mistakes in the text, I contacted MyTEFL for a refund. I was still within the window to able to qualify for a discount, based on their course purchase Terms and Conditions.

MyTEFL wrote back that I wouldn’t qualify for a refund, and I never got a further reply back. I had to contact my bank to ask them to get my money back for me. Last Thursday, my bank informed me that they would be able to claw back the money for me, so I now feel comfortable leaving this MyTEFL review.

The first thing I did was enroll in the TEFL Online Pro (120 hours) TEFL course; something I should have done at the start. It’s been almost a week now and the difference between MyTEFL and TEFL Online Pro is like night and day.

I don’t feel like I’m studying blind now. When I purchased the TEFL Online Pro course, I received a welcome email from my tutor (Paul) and when I send a message to him, I got a message back almost instantly. The course is way better designed too, and without any grammar or spelling mistakes. The difference in price is only about $50, so I recommend TEFL Online Pro as the far better choice.

Despite the rocky start with MyTEFL, I’m now looking forward to completing my TEFL Online Pro course and I’m looking forward to teaching English online with the certification. I’ve read great things about teaching English online and this comes at the perfect time for me to start doing it.

MyTEFL review, submitted by Jordan.

I ended up choosing MyTEFL for my TEFL certification because of all the glowing reviews, written by past alumni in the form of travel blogs. It just seemed like such a fantastic program. Well, that’s what the blogs strongly suggested. I now understand that those travel blogs are written by people who earn a referral fee every time someone books a MyTEFL course and uses their unique coupon code. IMO, this is dishonest business practice. If someone is earning money because you sign up for the MyTEFL course, their opinion won’t necessarily be objective.

OK. So here are some of the main points that the blogs claim about MyTEFL, followed by the reality.

  1. MyTEFL is a fantastic course.
  2. MyTEFL help with job searching.
  3. MyTEFL help with building your resume.
  4. The MyTEFL (120-hour) course is demanding, but fully trains you up to be a teacher of English.
  5. The MyTEFL certification is internationally recognized.
  1. The course was OK. I completed it in 5 days. You just read a few pages of text and then complete a quiz at the end of every module. Some of the content was good. Some of the content was just there as a filler for the overall word count.
  2. No help with a job search was provided.
  3. No help with building my resume was provided.
  4. I did learn some useful information on the course, but I thought the course wasn’t substantial enough. You don’t receive any feedback on the assignments. Essentially, you are taking the course on your own and hoping for the best.
  5. Yes, I think the certification probably is internationally recognized.

If I were to have the opportunity to take the course again, I probably wouldn’t.

MyTEFL certification. A really good course, but concerned about the accreditation status.

I chose MyTEFL because of the good things past students had to say about them on indeed.com. It was my first time taking any course online. I think I would have chosen to take the TEFL online anyway because I don’t feel the onsite version of the qualification offers that many additional advantages and the cost of taking it on-site is prohibitively expensive. The course was easy to navigate and full of information. There aren’t any instructional videos, but I didn’t mind that because there were many interesting diagrams and other graphics. I do think that videos can sometimes be beneficial for studying, but they can also be distracting. Based on the course alone, I would give the program 5 stars.

However, now I am now questioning the validity of their accreditation status. MyTEFL is accredited by OTTSA. From what I’ve recently managed to find out online, OTTSA was created by someone affiliated with the MyTEFL program – in Thailand, where MyTEFL is based – and the accreditation isn’t so well known outside of Southeast Asia. This could be an issue for me because I plan on teaching in Europe this summer. I’ve contacted MyTEFL about it, but so far nobody has returned my email.

A previous reviewer described the course as being like a TEFL mill. I definitely disagree. The MyTEFL certification course online was a pleasant learning experience and I felt confident to teach after with the knowledge and skills learned in the course. I’m just concerned about the international recognition of the accreditation.

Paid $200 for the MyTEFL 120-Hour online course, based on the reviews on a different reviews website where MyTEFL has been highly rated. Naturally believed the reviews. Why wouldn’t I? Now that I have taken the course I would write that the reviews I read were likely written by the admin staff at MyTEFL. Why? The course was terrible. I was able to complete the whole 120-Hour course in under 24 hours. Have since read the MyTEFL warnings on Trusted TEFL Reviews and the penny has dropped. This is most definitely a program to be avoided and I just wished I had read the warnings before I chose this program and parted with my money. I would like to write that the course content and course structure was good, despite the incredibly short time it took to complete the course, but it wasn’t. I’m not usually someone who goes online to complain, but I felt I just had to in this example so that people know what they are getting into if choosing to go through this company. I will see whether I can use the certificate or not. If it transpires that I can’t, I’ll just probably have to go through the process again but with a more reputable TEFL company.

Job Guarantee MyTEFL review, submitted by Ernie.

Job Guarantee.

MyTEFL lied to me. I specifically asked MyTEFL if I could teach in Thailand with only an associate’s degree. Their reply was “Yes, you can. No problem”. I want to make it clear that there wasn’t any misunderstanding on the part of MyTEFL. I clearly told them that I don’t have a college degree, but instead, I have an associate’s degree. “Never mind” they replied. Thailand treats both with the same importance. Based on this expert knowledge, I bought a ticket to Bangkok – armed with my MyTEFL 120-hour TEFL certificate and my associate’s degree papers – and I began applying for jobs. MyTEFL had told me that the preferred method for finding work in Thailand is to go to Thailand and apply in-country because it’s much more difficult to apply for jobs when you are not in the country. I really did draw the short straw because not one of the schools I applied to would accept my associate’s degree. In Thailand, to teach legally, you must have a full college degree. Associate degrees are worthless for the work visa, which you are required to obtain if you want to teach in Thailand. Thanks, MyTEFL for wasting a whole load of my time and money 🙁 I’m now desperately searching for countries where I can teach with my TEFL TEFL certificate and associates degree and because a lot of countries are shut down due to the pandemic, I am effectively stuck in Thailand until the travel corridors open up again. I would never recommend MyTEFL. They are just interested in your money and don’t give two hoots about what happens to you after that.

Stay away from this scam. I completed MyTEFL’s 120-hour TESOL course online and completed it shortly before my full-time seasonal work contract concluded for the year. I thought along with my 20+ years of work experience the MyTEFL certification would give me a better chance of getting a good online teaching job, but I was wrong!!!!! I soon found out no employers looked at the MyTEFL certificate as a real one. All I ended up with as far as MyTEFL goes is 4 wasted weeks of time and $200 down the toilet. I should have known better, with MyTEFL’s high-pressure sales tactics to take the course but I did not think about it. Also, MyTEFL outright lied about its program’s graduation employment numbers, salary stats as well as their so-called after-graduation employment help, i.e resume writing help and so on. I also should have been concerned about the grades I got for the written assignments. I was a well below-average student in high school and did in fact drop out in my senior year, yet even with no experience in the teaching field I was getting all A’s for my assignments. I saved everything and looking at them now, IMO they would get a C in high school at best. I bet thinking back now if I would have submitted a drawing of a happy face as an assignment it would have received an A as well. Do yourselves a favor people, and stay away from MyTEFL.

MyTEFL review, submitted by Becky.

A promising start turned nightmare!

MyTEFL is omnipresent throughout the internet, so this gave me the sense they are a reputable, established company. And established companies are usually reputable because they have established themselves through ethical conduct and general good business practices.

Signed up and took the course. It was OK. I guess your standard online tuition model.

I received my certificate. All is fine so far.

Tyler at MyTEFL did refer me to Footprints Recruitment Agency (helpful support) but I wanted to go it alone because I understand how recruitment agencies operate.

I had my heart set on teaching in Osaka, Japan. I knew it wouldn’t be an overnight process, but I had all of my docs lined up in a row and submitted them before the cutoff date. Easy, I thought. I’ve got this one. Incidentally, this was all completed last week.

On Monday, I opened my email to the shock that my application had been denied!!!???!!!

The school stated that although I ticked all the boxes for their school program, the TEFL certification I had received from MyTEFL was void and I would need to take a different course and then reapply once I have this new TEFL certification under my belt.

The reason given for the MyTEFL certificate failure was due to a blog post they had read on THIS website and when they did more digging into it they agreed with the blog post’s content. This is the post that cost me $200 and a whole waste of time:

https://trustedteflreviews.com/2020/01/24/the-mytefl-com-scam/

The school actually wrote that they don’t hold weight in accredited TEFL certificates, noting that there are few genuine ones around, and what they cannot encourage is accepting students with TEFL certificates endorsed with bogus accreditation credentials.

So, yeah. OTTSA who “accredit” MyTEFL are bogus.

It’s basically a scam.

We then had an email back and forth, with me almost pleading to ask them to PLEASE recommend a similar course that WOULD be accepted.

They recommended that I take one of these and my application would then go through without issue:

INTESOL Worldwide

OISE University of Toronto TEFL

tefl online pro

The TEFL Academy

Needless to say, I shall be contacting my credit card company for a full refund on the MyTEFL purchase.

The MyTEFL.com Scam. MyTEFL is an unaccredited Online TEFL/TESOL course provider, known for taking advantage of its graduates by charging exorbitant fees for job placement services – job placement services that are often changed last minute, with teachers finding themselves placed in accommodation and schools that offer far less quality and teacher satisfaction than what was originally promised to them. MyTEFL is also famous for scamming its job placement students, by withholding a large chunk of their teaching salaries and keeping them indefinitely in the MyTEFL company bank account.

The MyTEFL.com scam.

MyTEFL is not a legitimate online TEFL/TESOL certification company | MyTEFL is not a fully accredited online TEFL/TESOL certification courses program.

Trusted TEFL Reviews recommends avoiding MyTEFL.

Is MyTEFL a legit and accredited company?
The MyTEFL.com scam. Is MyTEFL Legit and Accredited? No. The MyTEFL.com scam centers around their fake accreditation claims. They claim to be accredited by OTTSA and ITEFLAC. ITEFLAC is a fake TEFL reviews website, and OTTSA was created by a former building manager from the UK – known personally by the management at MyTEFL. Verified customer reviews complain about not being able to use this TEFL/TESOL certification internationally and write that because of this, they lost money and strongly felt they had fallen for the MyTEFL.com scam.

The main reasons for this Buyer Beware Warning:

  1. MyTEFL claims to be accredited by OTTSA and ITEFLAC. OTTSA was created by a former building manager from the UK, with direct ties to MyTEFL. ITEFLAC is a fake accreditation website. NEW! MyTEFL also now claims to be accredited by the International Council for Online Educational Standards (ICOES). ICOES is, putting it kindly, a dodgy accreditation company. Its list of companies that it boasts of accrediting includes ‘Permanent Jewelry Bestie’ and ‘spray tan class’.
  2. This program has attempted, on a number of occasions, to get reviews written by their staff employees published on Trusted TEFL Reviews. Trusted TEFL Reviews only publishes verified Online TEFL/TESOL customer reviews – we don’t publish fictitious reviews, self-written by Online TEFL/TESOL programs.
  3. Customers complain, on a regular basis, about the job placement services offered by MyTEFL. If you decide to pay for job placement services offered through MyTEFL and Footprints Recruiting (their sister company) you will almost certainly find yourself being given alternative travel arrangements last minute – finding yourself living in different accommodations than was originally agreed upon and teaching many more hours than was previously agreed. MyTEFL doesn’t only make money from the work they do to help you find a teaching job overseas. They also make money from you by creaming off up to 40% of your monthly salary and keeping a hold of those amounts indefinitely.
  4. A common complaint made by verified customers of this program is that they have easily completed the whole “120-Hour” course within one day, and have further complained that they learned very little during the course.
  5. MyTEFL has been running a 30% Off courses discount, continuously, for the past year.

Essential TEFL Tip!

Are you worried about being scammed? TEFL course scams are becoming more sophisticated, and MyTEFL has been proven to be a scam!

Protect yourself from TEFL scams.

We strongly recommend choosing from one of the 5 Best Online TEFL/TESOL certification course programs in 2026:

The MyTEFL.com scam.

There are three levels of accreditation: Unaccredited / Accredited / Fully Accredited.

Fully Accredited‘ status is the highest level of accreditation.

MyTEFL is an ‘Accredited’ Online TEFL/TESOL certification program.

This means that the MyTEFL certificate is regionally recognized but not necessarily internationally recognized.

We don’t like having to do this, but our hand has now been forced to do so.

In a previous scam article, we wrote about being defamed online.

It was pretty clear to us that the intention behind the abuse is to try and undermine the credibility of trustedteflreviews.com. And we wrote that we would try and work out who could be behind these unfounded and completely false allegations.

We now have rock-solid evidence that the defamation is being orchestrated by MyTEFL.com.

This is one example of The MyTEFL.com Scam.

MyTEFL operates out of Vancouver BC Canada, under the business identity: Footprints Language Education Ltd (Footprints Recruiting).

The long and short of it is that MyTEFL is unhappy with some of their verified customer reviews published on trustedteflreviews.com. MyTEFL contacted us towards the end of last year, to ask if we could delete the negative reviews. When we explained to them that we wouldn’t be deleting these reviews, they responded with online defamation.

In the past few days, MyTEFL has openly written in an email that they will look into possibly deleting the defaming content if we can look into possibly deleting the reviews – thus adding blackmail into the equation too.

This led us to begin collecting information on MyTEFL and Footprints Recruiting, and we were shocked at what we found.

As a result of MyTEFL choosing to go down the blackmail and defamation route, we have no choice other than to respond by exposing this company’s fraudulent activities. All this information will be added below this written notice in due course.

Therefore, please watch this space for further updates over the coming days.

Mia Williams – Trusted TEFL Reviews

Update: 01.31.2020

At the beginning of this week, Trusted TEFL Reviews reached out to MyTEFL.com, to politely request that if they were to take down the defamatory materials that they had published online about trustedteflreviews.com and refrain from bullying tactics – thus demonstrating a level of professionalism from their end – we would be happy to delete this post and then everyone could just move on without any drama.

Their response was to threaten us with further online attacks.

This is another example of The MyTEFL.com Scam

And so again, our hand has been forced and we are now proceeding with what our team’s research unearthed regarding MyTEFL.com and Footprints Recruiting – operating under different company aliases, but for all purposes the same company – headed by the same management.

To make this light and breezy, we will try to reduce text and try to rely on photographic/screenshot evidence…

Warning 1: “Tyler K”

If you have ever communicated with MyTEFL.com there is a high probability that you communicated directly, or indirectly with the so-called owner of the company: “Tyler K”.

Here are three mugshots of “Tyler K”:

CBC Morning News Interview with Ben Glickman – Co-Owner of Footprints Recruiting Inc. The interview pertains to Christopher Neil – a former ESL teacher in South Korea that was arrested in Thailand on charges of pedophilia. In this interview, we are discussing screening procedures for English teachers in South Korea.

The case in question centered on the almost non-existent vetting procedures of certain recruitment agencies. The above screenshot was taken just as the TV Presenter candidly probed the scraggy tie Ben, whether it was his agency who sent the teacher (“Mr. Swirly Face“) over to South Korea. Here, in his ‘Prince Andrew’ moment, Ben allegedly lies, as our records show that Footprints Recruiting (also operating under ‘Korea Connections’ at the time) did place him directly as a teacher to the Kwangju Foreign School, South Korea.

A further example of The MyTEFL.com Scam.

And the telling of black lies and porky pies continue. At that time, he had no children. Yes, he did/does work on ESL101, but if you go to the site and take a closer look, you can see that he contributes on a minimal basis. It’s just his name on the site and a group of unpaid interns contributing the bulk of the material.

That Ben Glickman, AKA “Tyler K” closeup photo.

Now, unless the two CEOs at Footprints Recruiting are identical twins, Ben and Tyler are spitting image doppelgangers. The 5 o’clock shadow, the ‘V’ hairline. Perhaps that’s why Ben was wearing shades in this promotional article. But why wouldn’t he want to be identified?

Conclusion: Ben Glickman is operating MyTEFL.com under the alias, “Tyler K”. If someone is willing to lie about their name, what else are they willing to lie about?

Warning 2: Accreditation

MyTEFL.com (and a certain member of their “group”) are very proud of their accreditation status, despite the online TEFL industry being unregulated and there being no one international accreditation organization for online TEFL/TESOL certification courses.

There are a few legitimate Fully Accredited and internationally recognized Online TEFL/TESOL certification course providers though, and these can be viewed in the Courses Directory.

“The Online TESOL and TEFL Standards Agency is a professional educational organization dedicated to raising teacher-training industry standards, specifically online courses in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language”

I imagine that for anyone skimming the MyTEFL.com website, this seemingly valid endorsement from an external body could be the motivating reason for purchasing a MyTEFL.com course. At first glance, it certainly looks very professional.

Unfortunately, it is an outright scam.

OTTSA “Accrediting Professionals” claims to accredit MyTEFL and ITTT TEFL and doesn’t respond to inquiries about accreditation from literally anyone interested in accrediting their program through this “accreditation board”. I don’t care about accreditation, however, if someone is lying about it for financial gain then I know that a lot of people care.

If you take a look at Ottsa’s list of “Accredited Courses” over at http://www.ottsa.org/accredited_courses.php and if you conduct a deep search, you will soon realize that the only two online TEFL courses that care about this “accreditation” are MyTEFL and ITTT TEFL. And it’s designed to be that way. All they have done, which is quite clever, is to add some other very similarly designed TEFL courses to the list of “Accredited courses” and you can see that by the website designs that they were made by the same people. A couple of the courses on that list claim to offer 120-hour online TEFL certification courses for over 1,000 USD – apart from this obvious red herring claim when we tried to contact these fake TEFL schools we actually couldn’t find a contact for them.

Trusted TEFL Reviews recently wrote an article about accreditation, and our next Online TEFL Course Scams article will focus on the various “accreditation” companies – touted by some of the main Online TEFL course schools – and we will be unearthing the fake ones, together with the Online TEFL Programs that have paid (fake and deceiving) accreditation logos listed on their school websites.

Please read the Warning! The OTTSA Accrediting professionals scam post for the latest update.

Warning 3: Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing has become popular during the past decade, and when conducted ethically, it can help both the consumer and the business.

However, our attention was recently brought to the attention of a MyTEFL.com review on trustedteflreviews.com where the reviewer warned others not to trust the motivation behind MyTEFL’s affiliate “TEFL soldiers” out on the global field: https://trustedteflreviews.com/2019/12/28/dont-believe-the-mytefl-travel-blogs/

Trusted TEFL Reviews decided to look further into this and discovered the company with whom MyTEFL.com has an affiliate agreement:

Ah, there’s “Tyler K” again 🙂

If you Google, ‘MyTEFL Reviews’ or, ‘MyTEFL Blog’ then you are certain to land upon seemingly innocent blogs, whereby the blog owners and writers praise MyTEFL.com to the high heavens and tell you TEFL mantras such as, “Go for it!”, “It changed my life!”.

The issue here is that it cannot be certain that these bloggers even took the MyTEFL.com course. And if they did, they could never be the source of impartial, unbiased feedback because for every one of you who uses one of their promo codes – always shown in a predominant section of the website/blog – the owner of the website/blog receives a commission for the sale in return.

So, in this case, we completely agree with the comments made by Alex when she writes, ‘Do not believe the MyTEFL travel blogs’.

One other amazing example is the current trend for MyTEFL affiliates to create mirror image “The Best 5 Online TEFL Courses” websites. MyTEFL and their “group” always feature at the top. And of course, the website is jam-packed with affiliate links – with people low on funds writing such rubbish as either never have taken any courses on the list, or who have taken one and then seen a way to further their world travels by earning money through the MyTEFL affiliates program. #misleading.

Warning 4: Fake Reviews

In our previous Online TEFL Course Reviews Scams article, we noted that MyTEFL.com contacted us at trustedteflreviews.com towards the end of last year – at the time, politely requesting whether we could delete negative, verified customer reviews of their Online TEFL program. We declined and the online defamation began.

Unfortunately, I don’t have copies of those emails because at the time I assumed I was dealing with a professional TEFL course owner.

In the past weeks, however, we received strongly-worded threats to delete verified customer negative reviews – reviews that MyTEFL.com now conveniently chooses to label as being “fake”.

A verified customer review on trustedteflreviews.com may be negative, but it isn’t fake – especially when a course certificate of TEFL completion is used as proof of course attendance.

The following are snippets of a recent conversation between Ben Glickman (AKA “Tyler K”) and forwarded to me (Mia Williams) through an anonymous third party. I won’t be adding any additional text to the email screenshots as I feel they speak for themselves, and you are free to make up your minds as to the hidden and not-so-hidden context and meaning of this recently recorded online conversation.

It must also be noted here that MyTEFL.com has created a hastily put-together blackmail attack (WordPress.org) website, with the sole purpose of manipulating “facts” and in the hope of inflicting maximum damage to their greatest competitors through false, defamatory online content.

Warning 5: The “Group”

In our recent communication with Ben Glickman, he openly threatened that he would reach out and have the “group” attack us further online.

Now, he might delete or edit the information online after reading this, as he has tried to do so all week before reading this, regarding other materials online, but we took a look at the Footprints Recruiting recommended (other) TEFL courses, and you can see the logos of ITTT TEFL (which is their ‘Top Pick” given they share the same made-up accreditation) i-to-i TEFL, and International TEFL Academy.

Please note here that this blog post is not intended to criticize the latter three. However, if we receive similar online defamation we will act accordingly like we have done so here with the MyTEFL.com scam warning post.

Warning 6: Trashing the competition

At first, we wondered whether we were the only ones to have been attacked online by Ben Glickman’s stumpy keyboard fingers and unethical business brain. But, we are not.

We discovered many examples of attempts to trash respectable online TEFL companies that share a more positive image online – companies that provide excellent customer services and excellent customer care.

But what they sow, they tend to reap: MyTEFL and Footprints Recruiting.

And here they are writing sly, under-the-table falsehoods about one of their competitors, Teach Away:

Ben Glickman also decided to attack other online TEFL schools recently.

This is always a red flag and reinforces the growing evidence of The MyTEFL.com Scam.

One of the programs he attacked online, through a proxy website that looks very similar to the type of website he usually gets his (unpaid) interns or (paid) affiliates to create was a direct attack on tefl online pro.

Now, I can sort of fathom why he would feel a bizarre urge to attack trustedteflreviews.com, but why attack tefl online pro?

Ah. Of course! tefl online pro has been voted the Teachers’ Choice Award Winner, in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Ben feels that MyTEFL.com should have received the award.

Well, Ben. I know that you and your cronies will be reading this, so here are a few words of wisdom for you.

Here is our official statement, and we hope that you can begin focusing on your business products and services, instead of acting like a 2-bit hustler semi-gangster from years gone past:

trustedteflreviews.com is an unbiased online TEFL course review website.

We are not affiliated, in any way, with any of the online TEFL programs that we list on our site.

If an online TEFL school receives more positive reviews than negative reviews, it means they are doing something right. If an online TEFL school receives more negative reviews than positive reviews, it means they are doing something wrong and they should focus on improving their product and services.

Thank you, all of you who have taken the time to read this. And as a final note, we thought it only fair to hear from a few not-so-satisfied people who have had dealings with MyTEFL.com/Footprints Recruitment over the relatively few years that both companies have been operating Online TEFL courses and recruitment placements, as our research has concluded that around 95% of the MyTEFL reviews online have very likely been written by Ben’s affiliate spiderweb:

MyTEFL and Footprints Recruiting have now been blacklisted from Trusted TEFL Reviews. What this means, is that their listings will remain on trustedteflreviews.com – we will publish both positive and negative (customer-verified) reviews of their program, and we will also – in the coming weeks – make it clear to everyone visiting trustedteflreviews.com that MyTEFL and Footprints Recruiting has broken the website code of professional conduct, with a direct notice provided with their listings. If the situation changes and MyTEFL and Footprints Recruiting start treating their customers and their competition with professional respect, then we will reconsider taking this notice down.

There are some excellent Online TEFL certification Programs listed on trustedteflreviews.com that go out of their way to provide excellent training and job-hunting support.

We are not going to stand for a few bad apples to ruin it for everyone. And, neither should you.

We welcome any comments in the reply section below.

If and when we are notified of shady practices or even outright scams, we will post details of them in the Online TEFL Course Scams section of this website.

Take anything you read online about this company with a healthy cup of skepticism. It seems like any person who has ever wanted to teach abroad and travel has taken their course with MyTEFL but you need to understand that these people are part of their affiliate program and are being PAID to promote MyTEFL. If you read any MyTEFL review with a coupon code added (something like SAVE 35% when you enter COUPON CODE) you can be sure the person just wants to earn their commission, paid by MyTEFL. I took their 120-Hour Online course and thought it was pretty meh. Not much in the way of employment help in the end either. At best an average experience. Definitely is not a 5-star review from me.

‘Sammy’ isn’t my real name, and I notice quite a few anonymous postings on trustedteflreviews where the poster has written negative feedback: using the term ‘anonymous’ or simply their initials. The simple reason for this is fear of retribution by the few online tefl companies which are like aggressive lions on the internet. My friend had a similar experience with ITTT and I thought I had learned from her mistake.

When I paid for my course the only communication I had with MyTEFL was when I completed the final module, paid for my certificate, and then became a potential marketing agent for MyTEFL, with offers of large financial rewards from becoming part of their affiliate program. Oh, and they wouldn’t issue my certificate until I had agreed to, and written, a review of my time on their course on one of the websites recommended by them. Which I have since deleted.

MyTEFL offers a mediocre course but you can use the certificate. It is worth more than the paper it is printed on. But with the extra additions, it transpires to be more expensive than advertised. There is some support during the course, but if you don’t play ball with them and join their affiliate program or accept one of their job placements then they just don’t want to know you. I am only writing from my experience, but have read similar comments on some forum sites.

Don’t accept a job placement through MyTEFL. You will find yourself in a situation you didn’t sign up for and MyTEFL will continue earning a commission on every monthly salary you receive.

I wonder why MyTEFL has such amazing online reviews. Can you guess?

trustedteflreviews is a real diamond in the rough. Before they would publish my review they asked for proof of my MyTEFL enrollment. If I could turn back time then this would have been the site I would have trusted. And not one of the many others out there who are like puppets on strings.

I in no way want to dissuade you from taking your tefl with MyTEFL from reading this review. But I do feel it is my public duty to let you know what you will be getting yourself into if you do choose MyTEFL.

MyTEFL review, submitted by Louise.

If you can ignore the occasional typo and grammatical error within the course components (as I could) then you really can’t go wrong with this course. My research led me to conclude that employers are looking for Tefl certification with a minimum of 120 hours and the MyTefl 120-hour ‘Master TEFL Expert Teacher course’ pretty much ticked all the right boxes for me. The course isn’t too difficult but isn’t a walk in the park either, and I felt it covered everything I needed to know in order to prepare me for life as a teacher of English to foreign students abroad. A word of warning: if you want to enroll on a course that bottom wipes you through the job application process then this probably isn’t the right course for you, but if you are able to use the internet and seek out work for yourself then your MyTEFL certificate will be a definite bonus when interviewing with potential school employers. Despite this, I always found their admin team to be prompt and courteous in their communication with me and the bottom line is that the certificate is probably accepted in most countries in the world where you will want to be thinking about teaching English. I wouldn’t give MyTEFL a 5-star review, but 4 (I concluded) provide it with the justice it deserves. You can go the job placement route with MyTEFL, but if you look online you’ll see this is a bit of a money-grab operation. So my advice is to do the course and then find teaching work yourself. You could do a lot worse than signing up to take your international Tesol with MyTEFL. Overall, a well-grounded course that does what it says on the tin and prepares you for your first baby steps into Tefl.

MyTEFL review, submitted by Kevin.

It seems that MyTEFL is definitely aiming to corner the online TEFL course market with what seems like an omnipresence on most TEFL forums and graduate blog posts. I did notice that they have a lot of positive reviews on some reviews websites where they pay for advertising and I think anyone with a keen mind should take those reviews with a huge pinch of salt. I’m so glad that I stumbled across Trusted TEFL Reviews because at least here I can’t see any blatant school monetary advertising, which definitely makes me trust the reviews on this website a lot more than the others which make money from the schools they publish reviews of.

I actually fell for this trap. I won’t say what the other reviews website was, but it is a very popular one which ranks highly on Google search. MyTEFL pay for advertising on that site and they also have a 5-star consistent rating. It’s a terribly immoral business model as the TEFL Course website Review owner will want to keep receiving money from MyTEFL’s advertising and this raises the question of how both would react when a true, negative review was published. I think we can all guess that MyTEFL would likely ask for the review to be taken down and the reviews site would likely do it so as to keep its business relationship with MyTEFL.

So, I’m eternally grateful for finding Trusted TEFL Reviews as it is obvious from looking at the site that they publish all verified reviews and don’t need to suck up to the TEFL schools who might be unhappy with a negative review here and there.

Anyway, back to the MyTEFL TESOL course which I trudged through recently.

You know, it was OK. I did notice a few typos in the texts which at first had me wondering whether I should apply for a refund, but I kept going through the course materials and in a week I was through the 120-hour TEFL course, having spent less than 30 study hours on it.

They act (mostly) in a professional manner and I was provided with help throughout the duration of the course. But, their job guidance support was severely lacking in depth.

I did have tutor assistance services available throughout my studies, but because of the simplicity of the course, I never not once required this help.

My overall impression of the MyTEFL experience was that it would have been cheaper (and probably resulted in the same outcome) if I had simply bought a teaching English book from a bookstore instead of spending the money to take this course. But I guess then that I wouldn’t have received the TEFL certificate.

MyTEFL is a good online TEFL company, but lacking some essential features. I definitely wouldn’t recommend MyTEFL, but I would recommend teaching and travel abroad. Just make sure to choose your course carefully.

I’d rather not have my name published with my review because it seems MyTEFL have a significant online presence and I don’t want any issues further down the road because of a negative write-up of their school.

If you’re reading this then maybe you were also convinced to take your T-E-F-L (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course with MyTEFL because of all the glowing online reviews.

I consider myself a screwed-on person and impervious to marketing pitfalls, but even I was a sucker for this company.

I read the many glowing, 5-star reviews. I saw the YouTube videos. I read blogs by people such as twomonkeystravelgroup, whereintheworldisnina, womenontheroad, whereveriwant, etc. And this last group was the most convincing of the MyTEFL product package.

But take a careful read through their blogs (and others) and you’ll notice the same trend. All mention the saving you can get if you use a particular course code when signing up for a course.

Look. It wasn’t a bad course. Actually, I don’t really know what a good or bad online course is like because this was my first online study experience. But it did fall WAY short of what was being shoveled by the people running those mentioned blogs.

Yes, folks, they are getting paid to recommend MyTEFL so their recommendations cannot be taken with anything other than a grain of salt.

I don’t know what the “best TEFL course” is.

Perhaps it is MyTEFL. Who knows? What are the criteria anyway for being “the best”?

What I do know though is those bloggers are technically working for MyTEFL by aggressively recommending their courses and receiving a cut of your course fee in the process.

Not a 1-star review, but definitely not a 5-star review for MyTEFL. My (real) feedback – I’m not trying to flog a TEFL course through this review with a discount code – is that the course was OK-ish.

MyTEFL review, submitted by Susan.

Although there were some grammatical mistakes I picked up during the course, I thought it had a well-developed structure and fit my learner’s needs. Not quite sure how they reach the 120-figure that this course claims it contains as it took me a couple of wet afternoons to complete, but nonetheless it got me TEFL qualified so that’s all I care about. They’ll email you a PDF copy of your certificate after the course which you can print out. This did remind me of an SNL sketch I saw once about taking a university course online and initially made me feel incredibly nervous that I had been scammed. But upon checking I see it is standard for a lot of these TEFL schools. I do have to agree with the preceding reviewer that the course just doesn’t live up to its online hype and that yes, there does seem to be a disconnect between what a few blogs say about this course and what is actually provided, but as a general rule of thumb it is a decent course – it comes in a lot cheaper than some other options and if you can ignore the odd grammatical error here and there then I see no reason why not to pay the few hundred bucks to take it. Just take into account the extra fee at the end when you will want a hard-copy version of your certificate. A mixed review really.
