International TEFL TESOL Training. The offer advertised doesn’t match the services provided.

ITTT is plastered all over the internet. I read reviews on Quora, Reddit, blogs, TEFL forums, and so on. I really wanted to choose the right school for me because the course I would take could shape the journey I took after. When I reviewed their online presence, I came away with mostly positive student alumni feedback. This was enough for me to take the plunge and purchase their flagship 120 hours TEFL certification online course.

Except for a few silly spelling errors I noticed in some of the module texts, the course is generally of a high standard. It seems most of these online TEFL schools adopt a similar teaching syllabus. But this one also included video tutorials. The quality of the videos was a bit of a disappointment largely because of the audio quality and partly because they came over as being outdated. ITTT should completely revamp its video tutorials to represent teacher expectations for 2020. Just MHO.

I wasn’t expecting to have to pay extra for the certificate at the end, and I also wasn’t expecting the delivery to take as long as it did. 5 weeks is just too long. Especially when the certificate is just a printed document with a couple of signatures added to make it look more plausible.

What disappointed me the most was when I eventually received my certificate. I reached out to ITTT for job placement and I received no reply back. To this day, I haven’t received any reply. and yes, I have been checking my Junk and Spam folders.

For what ITTT advertise on their website, I certainly didn’t receive the help that they claim they offer when it comes to finding work after the course. Instead, I was left to fend for myself. I didn’t mind so much paying for the certificate, but it would have been nice to have the support when I was searching for work and when I wasn’t sure really where I should look.

I did eventually find work, but it took me a lot of time and I can never be sure if I made a good choice because I have nothing to compare it with.

I’d give ITTT 3 stars for the course and minus 1 for what came after completing the course.

ITTT was a great choice! Overall I was very satisfied. If you are wanting to take your TEFL online, I recommend taking a look at the offer from ITTT. There are many companies offering TEFL online now, but ITTT is one of the more reputable companies.

I chose to do the TEFL through this company because they have a sizable presence in South Korea and this was where I had my heart set on teaching. The course was excellent and I don’t have anything negative to write about it.

When I completed the course my certificate arrived within a couple of weeks and then I applied online to teach in the metropolitan area of Seoul (SMOE Program) If you are going to be teaching in S. Korea, you really should teach in a university. There are also schools called Hagwons [haɡwʌn] in S. Korea, but I heard a lot of negative feedback on these. They are basically cram schools and are unregulated, so if you end up teaching for a bad hagwon (that may not pay you on time) there is little recourse if things go south. When you teach at a university, you have more job security and you also receive additional benefits, like paid holidays and free health coverage. You can also earn a really generous income over there. I taught in Seoul for a year and in that time I managed to save up $10,000 (US).

ITTT is a great choice! South Korea is a great choice!

Coming in to take this course I had no previous teaching experience so I was very happy completing the course (120-hour) and discovering what skills and information are needed for this profession. Grammar is a difficult area to teach but this course handled it well and I was honestly surprised at how much I (a native English speaker) didn’t know about my own language! Without this course, I still wouldn’t be able to explain to you simple definitions of grammar terms and usage, such as time tenses. The materials were also delivered in an easy-to-understand format so this made the different unit tasks easier to comprehend. And for the price, I thought it was well worth it. My only niggle with the course was the difficulty of the lesson planning task which I thought wasn’t practical enough and this is an area I will need to develop on as I look to be getting started in my first teaching job soonish. I did have some help with looking for work afterward although ittt might consider helping their graduates more once their course is complete. However, I was genuinely shocked at just how much work is available out there and I do feel like a whole new side to the world suddenly opened up to me!

I came away from taking the International Tefl and Tesol Training course with mixed feelings really.

While thorough, I did think the ITTT online TEFL course that I took (120-Hour) seemed outdated and vague in places, and some of the lessons were definitely low on content – meaning I easily passed the course but didn’t really feel that confident of my teaching knowledge by the end of it. The course initially seems good value but when you factor in things like certification fees and the need to pay for an online tutor if you find yourself, like I did, needing the help, then it does push the price up somewhat significantly. Also, its customer service isn’t that great and the whole operation seems to be set up just to whisk people through the teacher training process and extract as much money from them in the process as possible.

I was able to use the certificate in another country though so this was a definite plus of the program for me. I didn’t really receive a lot of support from ITTT in finding work, but I already had work lined up anyway and it was just a case of completing the course for my employer to be satisfied with my teaching credentials. Still, I would have preferred taking a course that would have given me more skills and confidence in my teaching English abilities.

Overall. This is a middle-of-the-road course and while it may serve a purpose for people already with TEFL experience, it fell short of the mark for me if given the opportunity again, I would probably choose a different course to get trained to teach English abroad with.

My original review was three stars, but having read the comments below, and the reaction from ITTT TEFL, I am please requesting that I confirm this as a two-star review. Thank you. Dan.

I chose to take a teaching English course online because I needed a new direction in my life and didn’t have the available funds to take a TEFL course overseas. Teaching English overseas wasn’t something I knew much about or even thought was possible, so when I read about the ITTT Online TEFL program, I immediately signed up and began my baby steps into the world of teaching. I’d used the internet before but I’d never studied online and I wasn’t sure if it was possible to learn to teach English online. This concern soon subsided when I began the course and started to become familiar with the study format. I’d give the actual course 4 stars because it was educational and I did get a lot out of it.

However, the support wasn’t that forthcoming and I feel this let down the overall ITTT product. I was able to find teaching work pretty easily within a few months of my course finishing, but the whole process would have been a lot swifter and less stressful had I received that support ITTT promised me when I originally signed up.

I’ve been teaching English in Spain (Madrid) now for a couple of years and I love my life here. Contrary to what I read online, it is super easy here to find employment and the pay is reasonable when you consider that you have a lot of free time on your hands. I don’t have a college degree and that turned out not to be a problem for the 2 schools I teach for. The work visa was a bit of a pain at first as I needed to get a few documents apostilled/translated, but besides that, it was no biggie. I recommend teaching English in Spain. Lots of free time. Positive students. Great food. Affordable lifestyle. Spanish isn’t a difficult language to learn.
