Given that it is not the cheapest course, but we wanted to teach in South America, it is a program with a track record in placing teachers on the continent. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the course and everyone I communicated with was approachable and helpful. We eventually opted to teach in Buenos Aires and did not regret it. We had assistance with the job search and applying for the work visa. Maybe there are places to teach where it’s possible to earn more money but we love it down here. The staff and students at at the school are very nice. Every day we teach we look forward to it! Very busy city with so much going on. Tango, wine and steak is our new motto. Only advice a little more information about the logistics of opening a bank account would have been helpful. Everything else was excellent! Recommended

The Maximo Nivel program is a great program. Truly worth the time, effort, and money. I was able to do much of the course using my iPad, but there were times when I needed a desktop to submit assignments and watch certain videos that required Flash. The tutors are very very good. They were engaged, provided meaningful feedback, and were well organized. I had to request a time extension on my course because I wasn’t going to complete it within the allotted time given, and the school didn’t make an issue out of it. I just paid a fee and was able to continue from where I last left off. Most importantly, I learned a lot. I was able to apply my years of experience and I’m looking forward to applying what I’ve learned to the job I hope to be starting soon. Maximo Nivel specializes in placing teachers in teaching jobs in Spanish-speaking countries, and this was one of the main reasons why I chose this particular program to do my TEFL through.

I had a pretty awesome experience with Maximo Nivel. Taking the TEFL certification online helped me to study and work at the same time. The teachers within the program are obviously extremely experienced, as well as happy to help. The teaching practice part of the course was arranged so that I taught my classroom hours remotely to online students. This didn’t cause me any problems and I really liked this method because I plan on teaching English online in the future. My students were based in Honduras, which didn’t cause me any timezone issues. Teaching them was fascinating and even though my lessons were part of the free lesson program as part of my teaching practicum, I do think my students gained a lot from my classes. That gave me a great feeling of self-accomplishment. Looking forward, I will be looking to teach English to students online from around the world. I might even consider relocating to a Spanish-speaking country to teach if the conditions suit me. This was a wonderful program and has really inspired me to pursue teaching English as a foreign language in the future. Top marks for Maximo Nivel!

This is a very well-prepared and engaging course. Even when I thought I’d gotten the hang of all the grammar, I still found new areas to learn. My advice before taking this course is to invest in a good grammar book and do some grammar prep before starting because there is a lot of grammar covered in the course and some sections of it were difficult to take in at first. Grammar definitely isn’t exciting to study but is so important if you want to have the basic foundations for teaching TEFL. Had I not taken the course and had I chosen to teach without the TEFL I just don’t know how I would have been able to manage it. So my strong advice is to take grammar seriously because it will help you in the long run. I chose this specific TEFL online program because I’m hoping to teach in South America next year. Maximo Nivel TEFL seemed like it was one of the only TEFL programs specialized in placing students in teaching positions there. The only regret I have is that I didn’t know about the possibilities of TEFL sooner.

Teaching in Costa Rica.

I was looking to do my TEFL certification in person, instead of online. I appreciated they were pretty affordable, helpful from the start, and answering all my questions promptly. Though the housing wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, I was able to adapt and not let it affect me, other than my initial anxiety upon arriving and coming out for dinner to a huge group of people. As far as the school is concerned, we had 2 incredible instructors, Jackie and Claudia… there are not enough adjectives to describe them. They had an incredible rapport, energy, compassion, knowledge, and enthusiasm and were more than patient and helpful. I felt like I could talk to them about anything (in a safe space) and they never got frustrated with us. There were definitely some tough love moments, but it was always balanced with compassion and empathy. The course is REALLY HARD and will challenge you may be more than you expect, but it’s worth it! Manuel Antonio and Quepos are beautiful, you will have some time to do things you want to do and explore, if you keep up with your work, and the people of Costa Rica are beautiful and Pura Vida!!! I am so thankful and blessed to have been able to give myself this gift and I feel if you are looking for a program, this is it!

It was possible to take the course in Costa Rica but I didn’t have the time or funds at the time so I decided to take the entire course online, including the teaching practicum which I taught to online students.

After completing the program, I got help from Maximo Nivel to find jobs in the region I was most interested in teaching: South America. Specifically, Bolivia.

They are experts in Latin America job placements.

I knew in advance that the money you earn there isn’t very much, but the cost of living is low so it balances it out.

Maximo Nivel found me a job, teaching at a language school in La Paz, and I’ve been here ever since.

You will need some Spanish language skills to teach here, despite the claims by some programs that you only need to speak English. Luckily, I took a few Spanish classes at college so I was able to get by with the basics. For anything more complicated, I just use Google Translate.

If you find yourself in the region, I recommend seeing Lake Titicaca and also the salt plains.

One of the benefits of teaching English here is you won’t be just one of many other ESL teachers because there are so few of us. Another benefit is there are short distances between the cities. A few teachers and I like to occasionally go party in Cochabamba for the weekend. The journey takes around 7 hours by bus and around 4-5 hours by car, but it is so worth it. Cochabamba is Bolivia’s party town. Needless to say, the ride home is brutal. It’s 100% worth it.

Both Karen and Jackie are great instructors, and they work hard to get you to improve not only as a teacher but as a person as well. You cannot go wrong with getting certified in TEFL with Maximo Nivel. Manuel Antonio is a beautiful place to learn. Antigua Guatemala is also another option to be certified as well. I was lucky enough to have Karen and Jackie in Costa Rica, but Karen primarily teaches out of Guatemala. Either way, you can’t go wrong, but I highly recommend you check out both.

I’m a 2023 graduate of the Maximo Nivel self-guided 150-hour TEFL course, and I just wanted to write something about my experience of the program so as to provide some personal insight to anyone else who is considering this program.

The main reason why I chose Maximo Nivel was that they specialize in South American teaching job placements. I have friends and a distant relative living in Argentina and this certification will allow me to relocate there by ticking the box for the work visa. The Maximo Nivel admin has already provided me with the contacts for lots of local schools.

The course is very easy to work through and very user-friendly. Plus, you get to have up to 10 hours of face time with an online trainer and this was really useful because I had a ton of questions about the course and the teaching placement service.

Another thing about the course which I liked was that there wasn’t one massive test at the end. They test your knowledge after each module and this was a great litmus to see how well I was progressing during the course. The feedback I received on my assignments was to the point and very helpful.

I recommend Maximo Nivel because of the helpful school staff and because the certification leads to lots of job possibilities.

Maximo Nivel specializes in placing teachers on the South American continent, so if you have the plan to teach there then I can recommend their TEFL course. I took the course way back in 2021 and soon after I began teaching in Mendoza, Argentina. It was really easy finding a teaching position there and I absolutely loved the year and a half that I spent living in teaching in Argentina. One of the great things about living in Argentina is its close proximity to its neighbors: Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil, and Uruguay. Intercity travel within Argentina is hassle-free as well, with the excellent buses serving up airline-style meals and with really comfortable seats. You won’t get rich teaching in Argentina (or anywhere else in South America for that matter) but you will meet incredible people, be able to travel frequently, and you will earn enough to etch out a comfortable local living standard. I can’t recommend the experience enough. Buena Suerte!

This review is a bit late because I graduated from Maximo Nivel TEFL in 2019 but I wanted to add my two cents about the program anyway, now that I have completed my job placement in Brazil.

When I took the TEFL there obviously weren’t the concerns that there are now about the pandemic and life back then was a whole lot easier when you could buy a flight ticket, get on a plane, and just get away. I know you can still do this with some testing restrictions and quarantine in some places only being the barrier but hell, I do miss the ease with which travel was so routine back then.

My original plan was to start out teaching in Recife and then work my way around the continent. I ended up staying in Recife. That’s where I met my wife-to-be and we have since relocated back to Canada. My wife has family in Recife and Sao Paulo so will defo travel back there on a semi-regular basis.

Do I recommend teaching in Brazil? Yes!

The money you get for teaching is good (not nearly as good though as somewhere like South Korea) and it works out well because of the relatively low cost of living. People are for the majority part friendly and the food is to die for.

A review of living in Brazil does need to address the crime levels. They are high but as long as you don’t walk around flashing your cash you should be OK. Just avoid the less safe areas of town and never go to any of the favelas. Have heard more than one story of a well-meaning tourist heading to the favelas to try and do good and leaving with nothing but the shirt on their back. If they are lucky.

There are some better-located cities to work in if you do want to hop around the continent in the holidays but IMHO Recife can’t be beaten in terms of its atmosphere and lifestyle.

They offer an excellent TEFL course that you can take at your own speed and the course support is very good. The course was absolutely worth it and I have no regrets whatsoever. The certificate is delivered quickly and the program is fully accredited so you know it will be accepted when you apply for teaching ESL jobs.

I rate the course very highly and recommend taking it.

My reasons for giving only 3 stars from 5 are not related to the course but related to what happens after the course if you decide to accept one of the Maximo Nivel job placements.

The job placement is dreadful.

The one I chose was in Cusco, Peru.

I was overworked and really not appreciated at all. The money was much less than promised as well. I am not an isolated case. This has happened to many teachers (we run a private Facebook group) and I’m certain this is why Maximo Nivel has deleted the Reviews tab on their Facebook page. There can be no other reason because the course is an absolute win.

I recommend taking the TEFL course but I would never recommend doing the job placement with this company. You can easily find work on your own so you really don’t need to rely on Maximo Nivel to find your work.

My main reason and motivation for attending the Maximo Nivel virtual TEFL classroom course during the Covid-19 pandemic were initially to stave off the boredom of being stuck in my apartment and wanting to have a future travel plan. I read an article where it was written that planning for future travel events is healthy. I’m so glad that I did do it and I’m really happy with myself for using my time constructively when a lot of other people were day and night gorging themselves on Netflix. The course was demanding.
