The course centers on teaching grammar to students who are learning English as a second language. It was a difficult course and if I’m honest a bit monotonous and boring. But I guess teaching and learning grammar ain’t meant to be a roller coaster ride of emotions.

What I did like were the classroom activity examples where you get to learn how to reflect the focus from you and instead have the students cross-learn by themselves. For the most part, when I’m teaching I do tend to be the person in the room speaking the most (I can’t see how it is possible to teach a language otherwise) but I do sometimes value some of the new approaches to teaching where students take the role of teacher for an activity.

I don’t think I will have any problems getting more work with the certification from this company. I already have a few online students that I found via the PrePly online teaching company. They were satisfied that the course covered all the knowledge that they consider important their teachers should know.

The Oxford Seminars online course was too theoretical for me. there wasn’t enough emphasis on lesson planning and delivering lesson plans. There was a significant focus on grammar that I could have just read from a book. The saving grace of the course is its easy flow from one theme to another and how the grammar is described in plain English.

Even though the course covers so much grammar, you will always be learning more so that is why I did buy a grammar book so I can learn more when I start teaching. I know that in some countries students insist on learning just grammar and this will have prepared me for that. I do hope, though, to get some English conversation classes to lighten the mood every once in a while. I’m searching for a job as I write this review.

I took the online class with an in-class component because I wanted some teaching hours under my belt before I took to real-life classrooms and paid work. I now know that the in-class component isn’t necessary, despite Oxford Seminars claiming on their website that purely online TEFL courses are not worth the paper they are written on. This isn’t true because, at the school where I was teaching, there were quite a few teachers there with purely online TEFL certifications. Still, though, I enjoyed this course and I really enjoyed the teaching part. It does feel really good to put into practice what you have been taught.

There wasn’t any job support to speak of but I didn’t need this anyway. I took this course so that I could be accepted for a teaching job that I already had lined up in Chengdu. Despite having a college diploma, the school insisted I get TEFL qualified too. I’ve heard this wasn’t always the case, needing to show a TEFL certification before a school will even consider you for a position, but that it is now the case. It does make a lot of sense because how can someone with just a college diploma and no TEFL experience be expected to do a sufficient job in a classroom? It seems crazy to me.

The Oxford Seminars program was a good TEFL program for a good price, considering all that it contained. If I had to do it all over again, I probably would take this course.

It was a great idea to take the Oxford Seminars course because they have a rep in Lisbon, who helped me find a job there. It was a 4-week course and by the end, I felt relatively confident enough to teach in any given classroom size. One word of warning, though. Lisbon isn’t as cheap as it’s made out to be in the guidebooks. You can find an apartment for under 500 Euros per month, but you are going to be in a crappy neighborhood. My advice is to follow what I did. I couch-surfed for the first few months and then flat-shared. This meant I was able to live in the center of the city without paying through the nose. The schools do pay well in Lisbon, but because it’s the capital city everything is more expensive than say compared with Porto or other larger cities. If you do decide to come here to teach you won’t be disappointed with your students. So far my Portuguese students have been so warm and welcoming. It’s a very sociable scene and I’m out most evenings with friends- many of whom are my students. The food is delish and the weather, although breezy in the winter months, is mostly sunny and warm. And when you need a break, it’s only an hour’s drive or so to cross the border into equally beautiful Spain.

I completed the TEFL course and received my certification with Oxford Seminars in July of 2017. The in-class component of the program was informative and provided me with enough knowledge and skills to start my first journey of teaching aboard. The instructor was a former EFL teacher himself, therefore, it was a great source of personal-experience research. The ‘practice teaching’ component and subsequent feedback were rather brief but understandable, as the class size was rather large (about 20 people) and timing was limited.
Where I found Oxford Seminars really shined was their Job Placement service after receiving my certification. When I finally decided to make the big jump in November of 2017 and requested aid for a placement, my advisor (namely Rowan) assisted me every step of the way, including reviewing and editing my resume/cover letter, sending my application on my behalf to various agencies in accordance to my preferences. As such, I was connected to a great agency (Korean Horizons) and was placed to an amazing school in South Korea 2 months later. My advisor continued communications until I was successfully placed. I taught at the same school for 3 years (March 2018-March 2021) and had the most wonderful time there. Best yet, the Job Placement service is once again assisting me in my next journey.
I truly recommend this course and company for new teachers needing a solid place to start their teaching abroad journey.

I took the TESOL course (online) in January 2018. It took four weeks to complete and I think it only took around a month after that before I received the certification. I just remember it not taking that long to receive the certificate. Since then I have taught in Thailand and Laos. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole teaching English overseas experience. If I had to choose between the two destinations, I would choose Thailand. I loved teaching in Laos (Vientiane) but Thailand has a much better infrastructure in place for ex-pats. When I lived in Bangkok, I had literally everything I could ever need at my fingertips. There are also a lot more ex-pats living in Thailand and it wasn’t difficult to meet local Thais and other “farang”. Since March of last year, I’ve been back home teaching English online. I don’t really mind teaching online. It can be exhausting and frustrating at times. Overall though the positives far outweigh the negatives. But… I do miss face-to-face, in-person teaching. I’m looking forward to traveling again too. The Oxford Seminars online program is a good choice for TESOL training and I am only too happy to recommend the program to others.

Is Oxford Seminars Legit? I thought the way the course was designed was very clear and to the point.

This course is actually two courses in one. The first part (60 hours) is taken as in-class sessions with teaching practice, and the second part (60 hours) is taken online. Had I known that employers accept certification from a school only providing the online part then I probably wouldn’t have paid the extra for the in-class tuition. However, the in-class part was extremely well run and I don’t have any regrets about making this purchase.

Perhaps I was lucky, but my teacher was excellent. She guided our group from the basics up and patiently showed us how to incorporate the information learned into creative and fun lessons. Coming into the course I had absolutely no idea how to present language and how to manage a class. All this was patiently explained and by the end of the 60 hours, I felt ready for the second part of the course, which was the online section.

I also really liked the online section too. It really digs deep into the nuts and bolts of teaching and it taught me a lot about my own language too! This is the first time I studied for a certificate online and the next time I have to do something similar I will also choose the online option. It’s so comfortable being able to study when you want. Definitely the bonus of learning online by yourself.

Great course! You’ll work really hard and you’ll find it’s definitely worth it. Almost every aspect of teaching is covered and the materials are very well presented. A very good balance between price and quality. Also, lots of workarounds. It’s been a while now since I took this course (online) and now we’re all in lockdown the demand for teachers has been driven pretty much exclusively online. Perhaps the teaching market in China is going to open up soon. Anyways, Oxford Seminars is definitely worth it. Cheers!

Despite all the negative reviews on the internet, I found this course to be engaging and a great investment. I guess the haters are just going to hate, Simple as that.

I wanted to get my TEFL certificate for a reasonable price and Oxford Seminars ticked that box for me. And contrary to posts I’d read on the internet, you can use this certification abroad in Europe and Asia. I’ve even heard of some people using the certificate in North America.

The only real negative of this program is the job placement setup, which I wouldn’t recommend. There is so much work out there that there really is little need to decide on this option.

Just take the course and conduct your own job search. I have a college degree so having that and my Oxford Seminars certificate under my belt made finding work in Asia a breeze.

Completely satisfied with my Oxford Seminars online TEFL/TESOL certificate course experience.

The Oxford Seminars Tesol/Tesl/Tefl course will stand you in good stead if you are looking to teach English overseas. I don’t know how it compares to other Tefl certification courses because this was my 1st time studying this type of course, but for me, I was completely satisfied. The course structure is arranged very well and does the job of preparing you as an English teacher in other countries. No issues presented themselves when it came time to use the certification. I would recommend this Tefl company.

My 100-hour (certification with job placement) online/onsite hybrid course with Oxford Seminars was very enjoyable and I honestly felt it was one of the best learning experiences I have ever had. The trainers were amazing and the online course sections were very compelling. The price (US$1,195) was pretty acceptable too. Looking back, what I most remembered fondly was the college campus atmosphere and I think this atmosphere contributed to a general sense that this was a high-quality course run by highly experienced trainers.

What a horrible shame it was then when this impression was abruptly shattered once the course was over and I contacted the school admin for details of job placement. When I originally signed up for the course it was made certain and clear that my wish was to teach in Europe and the Oxford Seminars admin confirmed this was no problem. Instead, I was offered work in China and when I (politely) turned the offer down, no other offers came.

This is a company with awesome trainers and teaching staff but be aware that the management just doesn’t seem to care.
