I see a lot of bad reviews written about this program, but I was mostly satisfied with my TEFL education at i to i. The only thing was the cost of the course. When you factor in the certification fees and other costs it is expensive. But, I have not had any problems finding a job. I currently work for VIPKid and am satisfied with my salary and working conditions. When I was looking for a course to take I also considered the one offered by International Open Academy. It was much cheaper and covered the same amount of learning hours as the one provided by i to i. I’m glad I didn’t choose it though. Even though all I needed to show for the job at VipKids was a TEFL certificate, I did need to prove that I could teach when I began the teaching probation period and I just don’t think a cheap-as-chips TEFL course would have been up to scratch for this task. My advice is to pay more and you will get more in the long term. I’m just writing this because I connected with someone online who took the TEFL course with International Open Academy and they wrote that the course hardly taught them anything at all. One thing I was surprised at though is that VipKids didn’t care if my TEFL was an accredited one or not. So I wouldn’t say accreditation is all that essential. As long as you have the TEFL and it was a good enough course to teach you the basics then you should be fine wherever you apply for a job. I would like to add to my review that i to i also provide job placement services on their website. I don’t have any experience with this but I’m guessing this could be useful for people looking to travel overseas and work for the first time. Besides the cost of the tuition, I do recommend the i to i TEFL experience. You will learn something of value from the course and you will be able to use the certificate for job interviews.

It wasn’t easy deciding which online TEFL course to take because all the programs seem to offer the same type of courses and it’s hard to tell which ones are legit.

I chose the 120-hour TEFL/TESOL with TEFL Online Pro because it was a safe option (reviews+awards) and the price was in my Goldilocks zone. It’s accredited properly (unlike some other programs, whose accreditation is not legit) and the staff are super supportive so don’t worry if you’ve never taught before.

It’s a 14-module course with multiple-choice quizzes and two lesson plan coursework assignments. I was very nervous about creating my first lesson plan, but Paul reassured me and gave me the confidence to get the job done. For the second one, I found the structure of the course and the course content jelled perfectly and I aced the assignment.

The other benefits of TEFL Online Pro include a career service, and visa support. These are very important if you want professional help navigating the job market. We arranged a 30-minute Skype call and discussed the pros and cons of teaching online vs. somewhere overseas. I decided to get my feet wet by teaching online (Preply+VIPKid) and now a year on, I’m in Hanoi, teaching adults and kids and some business English students.

If you want to take a course that will challenge you, actually teach you how to teach, and help you find a job, this is the program.

I needed the TEFL certificate quickly for an online teaching English job. My employer decided in its infinite wisdom to lay off a load of staff (saving money for their shareholders) and I was suddenly out of a job. I spent a week looking at other work options, but there just isn’t a whole lot out there right now. I began seeing ads for teaching English online and I thought to myself, yep, I can do that! I’m a native English speaker, so how difficult could it be? As it turns out, it isn’t that easy. These online schools offering teaching jobs require that you have the TEFL certificate before they will even consider your application. It sounded like a bit of a racket to me, but what the hell? I signed on for the Teflen online TEFL course and got the coveted certificate after 3 weeks of an unexpected hard slog of online studying and assignment submissions. When I began applying for work again, with the TEFL certificate, the doors all of a sudden opened up and I was overwhelmed by the number of invitations for interviews. I must have interviewed for 15 jobs, but only one got back to me with a solid job offer. Their name is VIPKID and they offer really good work contracts. For the first month, the pay wasn’t that great, but they had me on a higher rate in my second month. I’m very happy teaching for VIPKID. Without this job, I would be screwed. So yeah, I would recommend taking the TEFL certification.
