It’s been a couple of years now since I studied TEFL with ICAL, so this is me finally getting around to writing a review of them.

I remember not expecting too much from an online study course. It was my first time studying online (not my last though!) and I had read a lot of conflicting info in online forums about whether or not it was recommended to take the TEFL certification online. There were strong arguments for taking it in person and other solid arguments for taking it online. The main argument for the in-person corner was that online certificates are not as recognized as in-person ones, and the main argument for the online corner was that the in-person certification courses are overpriced and an unnecessary expense.

Well, I can most certainly clear this up now.

I have NEVER experienced any issue with using my online TEFL certification when applying for jobs.

My own personal experience is that I was NEVER (not once) asked whether my certification was attained online or in person. And when I was teaching in Seoul, I taught with other teachers who had online and in-person TEFL certificates, and both groups were teaching at the same level and for the same money.

My advice is to take your TEFL certification online.

The learning material was logically presented but there was no feedback. There wasn’t any feedback because I chose the cheaper course option, which doesn’t include online tutor support. If I were to take the course again, I would choose the more expensive option with online tutor feedback.

I was swayed into taking the online TEFL through the ITTT TEFL program, largely because they seem to be specialized in placing teachers in Korea.

Regarding the learning material, I don’t have anything negative to write. As I wrote, it was logically presented. The material is presented via texts and a handful of video tutorials. The texts are presented well and so are the video components. This is a self-guided course, so once again, if you are completely new to TEFL (as I was) you might want to pay the extra $$ for tutor support.

What stood out for me were the grammar sections. They don’t just teach you the mechanics of grammar but also instruct you on how and when to apply different grammar areas to classroom lesson plans. For me, these were the most useful sections of the course. Before I took the course, I had no idea how to structure a lesson plan. In 20/20 hindsight, the first lesson plan I created was an undisciplined mess of a lesson plan. The course identifies and breaks down the different stages of a lesson plan, so you can condense what you want to be teaching into a 60-minute class. I needed this discipline and towards the end of the course, I was able to differentiate the different sections of a lesson plan which (paying) students would be happy with following in a classroom and which I, as the teacher, would be happy teaching.

If you don’t have any classroom experience, your first attempt at creating a lesson plan will be a sorry attempt, but if you focus on the course, you WILL quickly learn what is, and what isn’t expected within this area.

On a separate note, I found a blog, written by ITTT’s Marketing Manager – Linda Dunsmore – who lived and taught in Korea for many years, her blog is a treasure trove of useful facts and tips for applying for work in Korea. She also covers topics like what you can expect in teaching English in South Korea, the local customs, etc. So for me, a big shout-out goes out to Linda. I understand that she is employed by ITTT, but she never tried to initiate hard-sell tactics for their job placement services.

I was happy with my decision to study through the ITTT TEFL program.

They have a strong online presence and despite not having the best reviews, I just put that down to people who were not motivated enough to get off their couches and look for work on their own.

My final point is that this is an online TEFL course, with no face-to-face interaction. I liked this. It brings down the cost of tuition and means you can study as you go, at your own pace. If I were to take another TEFL course, like an advanced one, I would take it online again. Seems pretty ridiculous to pay $$$$ just for the luxury of the in-class study program tuition.

I’m giving the ITTT TEFL program 3 stars. If I had chosen the more expensive option, with the tutor support, this maybe would have been a 4-star review.

I completed the TEFL course and received my certification with Oxford Seminars in July of 2017. The in-class component of the program was informative and provided me with enough knowledge and skills to start my first journey of teaching aboard. The instructor was a former EFL teacher himself, therefore, it was a great source of personal-experience research. The ‘practice teaching’ component and subsequent feedback were rather brief but understandable, as the class size was rather large (about 20 people) and timing was limited.
Where I found Oxford Seminars really shined was their Job Placement service after receiving my certification. When I finally decided to make the big jump in November of 2017 and requested aid for a placement, my advisor (namely Rowan) assisted me every step of the way, including reviewing and editing my resume/cover letter, sending my application on my behalf to various agencies in accordance to my preferences. As such, I was connected to a great agency (Korean Horizons) and was placed to an amazing school in South Korea 2 months later. My advisor continued communications until I was successfully placed. I taught at the same school for 3 years (March 2018-March 2021) and had the most wonderful time there. Best yet, the Job Placement service is once again assisting me in my next journey.
I truly recommend this course and company for new teachers needing a solid place to start their teaching abroad journey.

Having recently completed the TEFL Online Pro 120-Hour Online TEFL, I can confirm for anyone reading this that this is a top-notch program. It’s obvious to me why they have won the Teachers’ Choice Award for the past two years.

Compared to similar programs offering the 120-hour TEFL course online, TEFL Online Pro is priced mid-market I would say. This isn’t one of your crazy cheap TEFL courses but also isn’t crazy expensive either. Plus, you do get a lot for the $299 price tag, and they don’t try to either up-sell you or nickel and dime you; meaning no difficult conversations by the end of the course

For the $299 I paid, I received full access to the course and I had my tutor who was available throughout the whole time that I studied. The course also includes international job guidance services and of course international certification. They also issued me with a great-looking letter of recommendation, which I have already made good use of.

For the past two months, since completing the course, I’ve been teaching online. It’s not something I plan on doing long-term, but it will do for the time being. I’ve been liaising with Paul from the TEFL Online Pro office to help find me teaching work in South Korea, and he has been as helpful and quick with replies as my tutor (Claire) was when I was studying for the TEFL certification. I’ve already sent off all my documents and now I’m just waiting for the paperwork to be completed then I’ll be traveling to Seoul to begin a new chapter in my life. I’ve been told that it can take anywhere up to four months for the paperwork to go through, so I’m just waiting on the employment agency in Seoul now. The good news is that last week I received the all-clear on the documents that I submitted to them and the school confirmed for me that I will be on a slightly higher starting salary because of my TEFL experience.

TEFL Online Pro has completely delivered everything they promised and I am truly pleased that I chose to do my international TEFL certification through their program. Top marks to them and a solid recommendation from me.

Quite a bit of the information is repetitive and video tutorials are missing. You read information and take tests afterward. I could see how the course is a little dated. Could do with an update! Don’t even bother trying to contact i-to-i when you need something because they never answer emails. The hardcopy version of the certificate isn’t free and when you do pay for it it takes quite a while for the delivery to take place. Well, that’s the bad stuff out of the way. Now for the good stuff…

It does the job of getting you through the T-E-F-L and at the end of it you receive a certificate. If you want to teach English you will need the certification. I was asked in interviews if I had the T-E-F-L and when I told them I took the i-to-i it wasn’t a problem for them. Meaning the certificate is recognized by employers. The price of the course was reasonable for what you get.

I did try teaching English online but I didn’t like it much. You don’t have the same student interaction as you do with an in-person class and I soon discovered that students are often not 100% focused on the lesson when they have email, Facebook, and other apps open when taking the lesson. This is a real problem when teaching English online. Classroom management just isn’t easy.

I’ve been accepted for a teaching job in Seoul South Korea which starts in January 2021. The job was advertised online so I didn’t need to use the placement service. I’m being started on a great salary and the job includes housing, health insurance, and paid vacation time. I’m looking forward to putting into action the materials I went through in the i-to-i course. I think they will be useful in those first few months when I’m still finding my footing in the classroom.

ITTT was a great choice! Overall I was very satisfied. If you are wanting to take your TEFL online, I recommend taking a look at the offer from ITTT. There are many companies offering TEFL online now, but ITTT is one of the more reputable companies.

I chose to do the TEFL through this company because they have a sizable presence in South Korea and this was where I had my heart set on teaching. The course was excellent and I don’t have anything negative to write about it.

When I completed the course my certificate arrived within a couple of weeks and then I applied online to teach in the metropolitan area of Seoul (SMOE Program) If you are going to be teaching in S. Korea, you really should teach in a university. There are also schools called Hagwons [haɡwʌn] in S. Korea, but I heard a lot of negative feedback on these. They are basically cram schools and are unregulated, so if you end up teaching for a bad hagwon (that may not pay you on time) there is little recourse if things go south. When you teach at a university, you have more job security and you also receive additional benefits, like paid holidays and free health coverage. You can also earn a really generous income over there. I taught in Seoul for a year and in that time I managed to save up $10,000 (US).

ITTT is a great choice! South Korea is a great choice!

Choosing to take my course with TEFL Online Pro was a no-brainer for me after I spent what seemed like days searching reviews websites, Facebook, etc. Thankfully I stumbled across this site and found a much more balanced picture of what to really expect from each course provider.

They get back to you super fast when you need anything. The course covers all the areas of teaching which you need to know. More important for me though was how they helped prepare me for my move abroad.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and living in South Korea. No two days are the same and it feels more as if I’m on an extended vacation. Which I guess you could say I am The money is excellent, I teach for a wonderful school, and I love the freedom of having time on my hands (and the available finances) to take trips around the region.

So if you were to ask me if I would recommend this program then it would be a yes. Definitely. The 120-hour Professional course was the perfect solution for working abroad and the support I received really made a huge difference. Can’t fault it!

I took the TEFL Training College 150-hour certificate in TESOL back in 1017. My decision to take a TEFL course online was due to my other work commitments at the time and stemmed from a desire to want to teach English online – from the comfort of my own home, and not to have to travel out to classes. I enrolled for the course and have never looked back since. I’d recommend teaching English online. The money is (surprisingly) better and you save a heap of time and money by not having to travel from class to class. Most of my students are business people from China| and South Korea, and it works out more conveniently for them too, to be able to take a class either at work or home and without needing to travel to a language school. So all around, I highly recommend the experience!
