Oxford Seminars review, submitted by Claire.

I took the online class with an in-class component because I wanted some teaching hours under my belt before I took to real-life classrooms and paid work. I now know that the in-class component isn’t necessary, despite Oxford Seminars claiming on their website that purely online TEFL courses are not worth the paper they are written on. This isn’t true because, at the school where I was teaching, there were quite a few teachers there with purely online TEFL certifications. Still, though, I enjoyed this course and I really enjoyed the teaching part. It does feel really good to put into practice what you have been taught.

There wasn’t any job support to speak of but I didn’t need this anyway. I took this course so that I could be accepted for a teaching job that I already had lined up in Chengdu. Despite having a college diploma, the school insisted I get TEFL qualified too. I’ve heard this wasn’t always the case, needing to show a TEFL certification before a school will even consider you for a position, but that it is now the case. It does make a lot of sense because how can someone with just a college diploma and no TEFL experience be expected to do a sufficient job in a classroom? It seems crazy to me.

The Oxford Seminars program was a good TEFL program for a good price, considering all that it contained. If I had to do it all over again, I probably would take this course.

ICAL TEFL review, submitted by Gordon.

I don’t have a bad word to write about the ICAL Tefl online certificate course. I was recommended the course through a friend of a friend, who had taken the exact same 120-hour course a year prior to me taking it. She described it as a no-nonsense course, not trying to pretend to be something it isn’t. And this was my experience too. One of the things which struck me, and which I found refreshing, was how ICAL state on their website that there is no accreditation for online Tefl courses and that you should be suspicious of any course which does claim accreditation. I thought this was incredibly upfront. And further to more research, when I was later interviewed for jobs, I found this information to be true. The signup process is quick and easy. I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting the course was, given that it is only studied online as a distance learning setup. It took me 2 months to finish the course, but if you put your head down and get on with it then my guess is that you can easily complete it in 1 month. I was taking the course while I was still working full-time and some more, so this is the reason why it took me so long to complete. No difficulty getting a job with the ICAL certificate. None whatsoever. I sent off my resume to many, many schools. Not one questioned the validity of the certification and not one questioned if the certificate was accredited. I now conclude that the courses offering accredited Tefl online only add “accreditation” to further sell more courses to unsuspecting students who think it will make a difference. It doesn’t. I’ve been teaching in Chengdu, China for 7 semesters now. Taking this course was one of the better life decisions I made.

The Best places to teach English abroad in 2026.

The issue with using superlatives is that experiences are subjective and what one person will describe as being the best isn’t necessarily what another person will. So these 5 teaching English destinations are generally considered to be the best TEFL destinations of 2026, but shouldn’t be considered a set-in-stone compulsory list. Destinations are listed alphabetically. Remember: before buying your ticket and packing that travel bag, always research country entrance requirements and employment visa laws.

(1) Cambodia. The land of the Khmer has been developing at a steady rate in recent times and you will find little issue in finding a relatively well-paid teaching English job in the main cities of Battambang, Phnom Penh, or Siem Reap. Forget the image of teaching on a beach though – an increasing marketing ploy adopted by some TEFL schools to entice new students onto their courses – as it is in the cities where you will find teaching English positions. Wages vary, but generally speaking, you should expect to earn around USD 10 per hour with a TEFL certificate, with the hourly wage increasing slightly in Phnom Penh and decreasing slightly in Siem Reap. It is possible to apply for job positions from abroad, but more preferable to be in-country when you apply. See our 10 tips on finding a teaching English overseas job for more information on this. A degree is preferred, but not mandatory. USD 10 might not sound like much, but considering the generous affordability of day-to-day life, it will contribute to a much more than ample monthly salary. Plus, the locals are extremely warm and hospitable. And at the weekends when you might find yourself wanting a break from urban life? Well, there are all those beaches and islands in the south of the country to stretch out on while sipping chilled 75-cent Angkor beers and affordably munching on delicious seafood.

(2) China. It should come as no surprise to you that the world’s second-largest economy has become the largest TEFL market in the world. Teaching English jobs are easy to come by and the salaries are competitive: $1,500 – 2,000 USD per month on average. A degree in any subject is mandatory. No TEFL certification is required, but having one can often start you off in a higher-paid position. Given China’s strict visa policies, it is recommended to look for teaching English jobs whilst at home and apply from abroad. The top TEFL destinations within China are Beijing, Yangzhou, Harbin, Guilin, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Xi’an. The feedback we have received is that Chinese students are incredibly respectful of teachers and teachers are highly regarded throughout China. Plus, there are lots of public holidays and due to the low cost of living, you can expect to put away a sizeable chunk of your salary each month.

(3) Czechia. Formerly ‘The Czech Republic’, Czechia still retains the title as one of the must-go-to TEFL destinations in the world. It has everything you could wish for accessible countryside, a superb transport system, excellent local beers and wines, hearty cuisine, medieval castles, a favorable location in Central Europe and it’s a much more affordable location than Western Europe. Being a landlocked country though, it is missing the white sands and glistening azure of those beaches. Still, there are hundreds of lakes to choose from, should you have a desire to be close to a large body of water. It is still extremely easy to find teaching English jobs in Prague, but salaries have remained plateaued for some years now and it is no longer the amazing deal that it used to be. However, you should still expect to be earning in the general amount of USD 15 per hour, and around USD 20 if you teach privately. A degree is often stipulated, but in reality, just turning up armed with a TEFL certificate will get your foot in the door. See our FAQs for more information on this. You won’t come out rich, but the experience of teaching English in the Czech Bohemian, Moravian, and Silesian lands is priceless.

(4) Slovakia. Slovakia, you say? Yes, Slovakia! If you are tired of the hoards of tourists that seem to consume every street in Czechia’s capital, then we can recommend its smaller, former sibling: Slovakia. The two countries were, up until fairly recently, connected as one Czechoslovakia, but when the Slovaks voted for independence in 1992, both countries went their separate ways. Like Czech Moravia, Slovakia is steeped in folklore, and spending any time here you will have a sense that there are many traditions very much alive from many days past. Slovakia boasts some excellent cuisine, majestic mountains, and some of Europe’s friendliest people. Also, you can earn more in its capital city, Bratislava than you can in Prague. The hourly rate in Bratislava sits at around USD 20 per teaching hour, with daily costs being on par with Czechia’s capital city. Be warned though that once you venture out of Bratislava, salaries do drop. But prices also drop, so it is a logical trade-off. As with Czechia, it is best to look for work once you are in-country. The only real negative of teaching in Bratislava is the chronic shortage of available apartments for rent, so for the first month or so, you might want to rent a short-term room until you find something more permanent. Other cities in Slovakia where you can easily find teaching English work are Banska Bystrica, Kosice, Nitra, and Presov. Our tip though is to start in Bratislava, where you are an hour’s train ride from Vienna and from where you can easily access other locations within the welcoming, Slovak lands.

(5) Vietnam. Good morning! Vietnam has, in recent times, begun earning the moniker of ‘Asian Tiger’ in reflection of its booming economy. And wherever there is a boom in the economy there is a growing middle class, and wherever there is a growing middle class there is a surge in demand for English language tuition. If this list were ranked by the most favorable location, then Vietnam would be at the top. It has everything: mountains, picture-postcard coastlines, energetic metropolises, some of the world’s best coffee, outstanding food, and much, much more. The country is often (crudely) divided into north and south, with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City being the default central hubs for English teachers looking to get on the teaching English gravy train. Salaries range from $1,000 to 2,000 USD per month, depending on the school you work for and your qualifications. Teaching English jobs are easy to come by, with the majority of ex-pats choosing to settle in Ho Chi Minh City. A university degree is mandatory for the work permit process, although it is sometimes possible to navigate around this rule. A TEFL certificate will increase your chances of finding work with more reputable companies. The cost of living is low and the options for travel throughout the region are endless. If we were to pick one location to start out teaching English abroad, it would be Vietnam.

An excellent course for a new teacher. It involves everything that you need to know to begin teaching English as a foreign language. I was able to study at my convenience and whenever I needed a bit of help the i-to-i support was there on hand. i-to-i TEFL has been around for years and knows the teaching business like the back of its hand. The 120-hour course I took was very comprehensive and divided sensibly into different modules which covered topics such as teaching grammar and preparing lesson plans. I’m off to China in September to start teaching English over there and without i-to-i, this just wouldn’t have been possible for me.

MyTEFL review, submitted by Tony.

It was much cheaper doing this course than taking an On-site one with observed teaching practice and which would have meant needing to study full-time. If you are thinking of taking a Teaching English as a Foreign Language course then I would definitely recommend taking it online. There were a few things MyTEFL promised but didn’t deliver on but all in all, I would say this is a pretty decent course and a pretty solid introduction to teaching English abroad.

For me, the most difficult part of the MyTEFL Professional 120-Hour Online TEFL certification course was wrapping my head around the grammar. They didn’t really teach us grammar at school and even though I obviously speak the language, I didn’t really have an understanding of how it functions. This course guides you through the different areas of grammar pretty well and now I can confidently say that I know the difference between Simple, Continuous, and Perfect grammar tense forms.

I do hope I’m going to be able to use the MyTEFL certificate later on in the year when I plan to go overseas to teach English abroad. MyTEFL does write on its website that they help with the process of finding teaching employment so that will definitely be an added bonus. I’ve got my mind set on teaching English in China, but I don’t have a university degree MyTEFL said there would be a way around this so again, more good news.

I took the TEFL Training College 150-hour certificate in TESOL back in 1017. My decision to take a TEFL course online was due to my other work commitments at the time and stemmed from a desire to want to teach English online – from the comfort of my own home, and not to have to travel out to classes. I enrolled for the course and have never looked back since. I’d recommend teaching English online. The money is (surprisingly) better and you save a heap of time and money by not having to travel from class to class. Most of my students are business people from China| and South Korea, and it works out more conveniently for them too, to be able to take a class either at work or home and without needing to travel to a language school. So all around, I highly recommend the experience!

Choosing a TESOL course was a really exhausting affair: there are so many options! In the end, I narrowed my search down to Premier tefl, i-to-i tefl, and a TESOL course I saw advertised on Groupon. The Groupon TESOL was less than £100 and although at first I was tempted to go for it, after some more research I quickly realized that these super-cheap courses are probably not worth the piece of paper they’re written on. I’m not so rich that I can afford such a cheap course if you know what I mean. Premier tefl and i-to-i tefl seem to offer pretty much the same courses and their fees are very similar. I wonder, are they the same company? Anyways, I ended up flipping a coin and Premier tefl won the toss. I was very happy with what I paid for and I’m sure I would have been equally happy had the coin turned up Heads for i-to-i. The course structure followed a logical path and apart from a few extra costs I wasn’t fully made aware of at the start, I think this is a very good course and if you are considering Premier tefl and are reading this then there will be no big concerns if you sign up. I’m wanting to teach English in China, where a TESOL certificate is needed, so I’m glad I already have this under my belt.

OISE University of Toronto TEFL review, submitted by Rachel.

Just as the previous review of OISE noted, their course tuition fees are too high and this is the reason for me awarding them four stars (not five). But if you can get past this barrier then you won’t be disappointed with this international tefl option and it will open teaching English job doors for you. I had my mind set on teaching English overseas in China. Seven months later and I was teaching my first English class, here in Harbin. I mean, what’s cooler than that? 🙂 It was really easy to find a teaching job because schools in China advertise throughout the year, so employment options aren’t only limited to one or two times in the teaching year. Applying for the work visa turned out to be the only real pain in the butt so I chose to arrive in China on a tourist visa after a couple of months, I traveled down to Hong Kong, where I was able to transfer it over to a proper work visa. I want to point out that my initial visa issues were because I didn’t fully have all my ducks in a row, as I was accepted for a teaching position quicker than I imagined, so it shouldn’t really be an issue for anyone applying with more time on their hands to properly collect all the required documentation. One word of advice about teaching English in China is that schools will only accept you if you are a Native English Speaker and hold a Bachelor’s degree. A tefl certificate isn’t necessary but helps heaps. It’s also been a major culture shock relocating here, so you do need to bear this in mind too. I’m just so thankful to OISE University of Toronto TEFL and pleased with myself for making this possible and deciding to go for it.

ITTT review, submitted by Xander.

Definitely a course well worth the investment and I cannot wait to get started teaching English overseas!

As a non-native speaker, I needed to be convinced that this course was right for me and as soon as I started, I realized that it was and that I can realize my dream to teach English in China.

I ended up choosing their 220-hour, Master Package which came with tutor support and video access as part of the course curriculum.

Looking back on my decision, I realize now that I could have opted for one of their more affordable courses (their 60-hour course would have covered me) as I have since read that it doesn’t really matter which course you take, or how many hours it covers. Still, the 220-hour mention on my embossed certificate looks very professional and I hope it will further my application when I begin the language school application process.

I do feel comfortable knowing that ITTT offers lifetime job guidance and I’ll see how that service stacks up in a time when I require its use.

On a side note, the course units were well-organized and covered all the basics which included phonetics (something which I did at first find difficult to fathom)

All in all, a worth it course and I’m awarding it 4 stars.
