Having just recently taken the International TEFL Academy online course, I feel comfortable advising other students about the course.

It’s going to be a lot harder than you think or expect it will be and it will consume much more than the advised workload. I was spending far more than the assigned 30 hrs a week on my studies. In the final week of the four weeks in total, I clocked up over 60 hours. This is because the TEFL course offered through the International TEFL Academy has a set start and end date with coursework deadlines you must stick to. Many TEFL programs follow the study at your own pace system. International TEFL Academy doesn’t. Personally, for me, I preferred this method system because I procrastinate too easily and by having targets and deadlines I was forced to meet them or fail the course. Bearing this in mind, the content of the course and the workload is thorough and demanding. At first, you might feel like someone pushed you into the deep end of the pool, but you soon get the hang of the system, and if you put your mind to it the course structure they have created is doable. One thing I can guarantee is that you will complete the course with a huge knowledge of teaching English methodology. What I really liked about the course setup was that they provide you with experienced tutors who help you with any new and/or difficult tasks. This alleviates the stress and tension of taking a high pressured course such as this one. If you are absolutely serious about learning TEFL and don’t mind your life is dominated by TEFL for 4 straight weeks then I recommend the International TEFL Academy. The program is accredited too so you shouldn’t need to worry about finding work with the certification.

I really can’t say anything negative about Tefl Online Pro. I completed all my course tasks on Monday and received my TEFL/TESOL certificate yesterday. They always got back to me within a few hours max whenever I asked a question or needed help, so the fact that they issued my certificate so quickly after completing the course wasn’t a big surprise for me. Their customer service is excellent. When you are taking the course there is the option to send a direct message to your online tutor and this was my preferred method of communication. It was very quick. Sometimes the reply came back almost immediately. The course isn’t so difficult that you would need to request help that much along the way, but there were a few times when I didn’t quite fully understand the details in the modules and when I had the option to contact my tutor and ask for clarity was reassuring and good for my overall confidence. Speaking about the course itself, it is very thorough and user-friendly. I am someone who benefits more from gradual assessment, rather than one big exam at the end, so I appreciated how they test you after each module instead of letting you wait until the end of the course to see how your progress is going. There were also two lesson plans that I had to complete as part of the 120-hour course. These were after modules 6 and 11. My first one wasn’t that great, but my second one was much better. The feedback that I received on both lesson plans was detailed and included constructive feedback. I am now confident that I can write a lesson plan for pretty much any class that I will teach in the future. To sum up: the school is affordable compared to many other schools I researched, it has excellent customer support and the experience was overall very positive. I am very happy with my decision to take the TEFL/TESOL certification with Tefl Online Pro and will recommend them to everyone I know.
