I was pleased with my ITA online course study. It isn’t a self-paced study program like the other ones I saw promoted online. Instead, you have a certain time to start and complete the course. I liked this because it meant I couldn’t drag my feet and I was time-forced to complete everything on time, which is a good thing for someone like me who likes to procrastinate a lot.

I thought the lessons contained in the course were excellent at showing me, as a future teacher, how to present topics to students in a fun but informative way. There were also assignments where I needed to submit lesson plans and these were graded and suggestions for edits were provided. I always got quick replies back. This was important for me because I needed guidance, and the guidance was provided.

I must admit that I didn’t do any research into different TEFL courses before I chose to take the one offered by (ITA) International TEFL Academy. There are just so many and I just didn’t have the time or patience to compare each and every one of them. In the end, ITA was mostly a good fit for me.

Having now (ironically) done a bit of research (after completing the course) into other programs, I can see that the main 2 ways that ITA is different from a lot of other ones are in price and flexibility.

Price wasn’t really an issue for me because someone else paid for the study for me, but if I were paying myself then I’d most definitely have done a price comparison between courses beforehand. I think the ITA course costs in the region of $1,000. It’s not a significant amount of money but is still sizeable when compared to some other options I’ve seen.

Regarding the flexibility thing, I’ve noticed that most TEFL courses don’t seem to have exact start and end dates. ITA does, and this might be a barrier to people who are working while they study.

Despite these 2 relatively minor points, I enjoyed my ITA study experience.

Some sections were more difficult than others, but all in all, I would say that this wasn’t a particularly difficult course to pass, and as long as you follow the course timetable and tutor instructions you should do fine with this option.

ITA is a large TEFL company and is a good option for training to teach English abroad. I was able to go at my own pace, which is something I was looking for when I committed to taking their online TEFL, and I considered the course topics to be both constructive and informative. So with regards to the actual course, I recommend it. I wouldn’t recommend this course to anyone wanting their hand held through the employment process. ITA does provide you with employment information for different countries, and you do get access to a large community of alumni, but I found the information to be a little on the vague side and I never received any response from the graduate I tried to connect with.
