A lot of hot air and hype really. If you are looking for a TEFL course that feels like it’s run by a group of fraternity students then this is the right one for you. Yes, they are one of the larger organizations. Yes, their adverts are pasted all over the web. Yes, they try to put forward an image of being part of a cool, hipster TEFL crowd. The course though is at best mediocre, and I definitely felt misled regarding how much support would be offered to me at the end of the course. Because they are so huge, don’t expect more than an auto-reply when you ask for help with finding work. It ticked some of my boxes, but in other areas fell far short. I’m sure there are better options out there.

I wanted to teach English in China, so I decided to do a TEFL course. While I was researching courses online, I read posts by many people who warned me not to take a TEFL course online as my certificate wouldn’t be accepted at teaching English schools. Many posters recommended taking a CELTA (or equivalent) course. It turns out this was misguided advice as the CELTA isn’t even recognized in Asia, and I had zero issues with my online TEFL cert at the companies I applied for work at. The lesson learned through my experience is DO take your TEFL certificate online – it will save you a whole load of hassle by doing so – and DON’T listen to the rubbish posted online in the TEFL forums. trustedteflreviews.com is a real diamond in the rough when it comes to accurate TEFL information, and the International TEFL Academy was an excellent online TEFL choice.
