This was a quick, no-hassle way for me to get a hold of the TEFL certificate – the certification required by most employers if you want to teach English. I still haven’t worked out what the difference is between TEFL and TESOL. I’m guessing they are the same terms for the same certification? The certificate you get through the INTESOL program is the TEFL certificate. INTESOL does claim that their Level 5 Tefl course is “Celta equivalent” but when I looked further into it I saw this isn’t the case. Still, though, it’s a good course and the online teaching practice was a really helpful component of the course. I did pretty well on the course – finishing with one of the top grades – and I put this down to the quality of the instruction, as well as the decision I made to work as hard as I could on it. My certificate was delivered a month after I had completed the course – INTESOL certificates are sent out from India, so it can take a while for the delivery – and I haven’t had any issues using the certificate for my online teaching work. There is a lot of teaching work online around, but I do wish I had had more help to sift through the many, many schools offering online teaching work. Never mind though because I have been able to find work, teaching English online, and I’m looking forward to traveling overseas to teach. I’m giving INTESOL three stars. This is a good program.

Even though INTESOL Worldwide shows its headquarters as being in central London, they in fact have their headquarters in Delhi, India. And this worked well for me because as a Delhi local born and bred, it was possible to arrange for a meeting at their building where I could pay in cash for the TEFL course they have on offer. This was also important for me so when there were any kinks in the armor, I would know where to go to complain. As it transpired, there was no need to complain. Everything went swimmingly well and I completed the course with an above-average grade. If you don’t know, India is going through a terrible time in relation to Covid-19 infections and it is a true catastrophe for my country. I have, therefore, put on ice any plans to travel abroad for an English teaching position. I was satisfied with the INTESOL Worldwide product and with the way they approach the customer. I believe that having the TEFL qualification will help me in my future career. My plan is to teach somewhere in Europe. Preferably in one of the Western European countries. INTESOL Worldwide has assured me that this won’t be a problem and I believe what they say. I will wait until when I start applying for job positions in Europe and then I will recommend this school if the school’s assurances turn out to be a reflection of the truth. So far, so good.

I thought the online teacher training (TEFL India) course with INTESOL Worldwide lived up to most of my expectations in regard to what was advertised and what I received.

Just two areas of concern which I had were that the content of the course could have been delivered in a more user-friendly way (I couldn’t study on my iPhone or iPad) and I was expecting more in the way of job information for international teaching positions.

I was a little confused about where exactly INTESOL Worldwide operates. I think the school operates out of India (the UK also?) and they have franchises in other places around the world. All correspondences though were provided by native speakers (or non-natives with excellent English language skills) so this was a positive, and when I needed to contact the school they responded within a reasonable amount of time. Even if it took a few days to get an email back the response addressed my question(s).

On a further positive note, I thought the content of the course was very informative and it most definitely introduced me to new teaching ideas and concepts. I’ve taught before so I wasn’t a complete newbie going into the course. The course seems to favor the Communicative method too, which is my preferred way of teaching. And despite it taking me a bit of time to eventually locate a full-time job with a school, I did find work with this certification and this was one of the reasons why I took the course in the first place.
