Vantage is the best TEFL option in Thailand.

There are a bunch of TEFL schools operating in Thailand, meaning it was a bit difficult to decide on which one to take. All of them appear to offer the same type of qualification, and most of them seem to have good student feedback. A couple of them even offer their courses near the beach. However, when I dug deeper into these I began to doubt the seriousness of those courses. Their websites are full of beach pics showing TEFL students having fun in the sea, but not much about the nitty-gritty specifics of the syllabus. Vantage, on the other hand, was upfront with me from the start about what I would be covering in the course and what to expect when I began teaching.

This is the TEFL school you should go through if you have decided to teach English in Thailand. Yes, the course can be demanding in places, but by the end, you will have a sufficient foundation to teach Thai students English. If you are going to invest in a TEFL course, you might as well take a course that will prepare you properly for the job ahead. That’s my way of thinking anyway.

I didn’t stick around Bangkok for so long after I had completed the course and received the certificate because I wanted to live somewhere a little less hectic. I did meet teachers though who love living in the city. I instead headed up north, to Chiang Mai. Which I love!!! CM is way more chilled than BK. I see that the money teaching is better in BK, but the cost of living is cheaper up here so it seems to roughly even out in terms of what you can and can’t afford. I recommend anyone coming to Thailand to take their TEFL, to take the one offered by Vantage. You get what you pay for and the staff there are so helpful and supportive. Also, consider Chiang Mai as a teaching destination for a laid-back lifestyle and as a city with exceptionally friendly locals. Vantage gets a thumbs-up from me.

It’s a very intense course and this was just what I needed at the time. The TEFL program I chose was divided into an online section and the teaching practicum hours which at the time were available for me to take online with virtual students. I learned a lot. I earned that TEFL certificate of mine. If you wanna teach in Thailand and are a focused student and willing to work hard this course will be perfect for you. I don’t have experience with any of the other TEFL programs in Thailand but from what I’ve heard this program is one of the more reputable ones. They sure do make you work for your TEFL certification and because of this, I will recommend the program to other people.

TEFL Bangkok. Easily the best TEFL course in Thailand.

The Vantage TEFL (combination) course went far beyond my expectations and I can’t recommend the program enough. This is one of the online/in-class courses, where I studied the theory online and then taught in-class (practicum) at their downtown school. I made a list of some of the things that I especially loved about the program.

• The staff is very helpful and friendly – this applies to both the online and on-location staff.
• I thought the price was very reasonable for what you receive from the whole course package.
• I was able to use the certification without any problems here in Thailand.
• The school provides support if you need it during the course and later on afterward.
• The course is presented in a logical format and my tutor was very encouraging.
• The support and feedback given during my in-class practicum were excellent.
• The teaching practice component elevates the prestige of the certification.

Overall I highly recommend Vantage TEFL in Bangkok, if you are looking to teach English in Thailand. They have contacts throughout the country and so can pass contacts your way when looking for work when the course is complete. Everyone at the school is super friendly too.

Finally, Vantage TEFL knows the country inside out – they can recommend where to settle and teach. I enjoyed the month staying in Bangkok, but knew I wanted to live and teach somewhere a lot less hectic. Vantage recommended Krabi to me, so I took a weekend trip down and have been here ever since!

Thailand is amazing. I highly recommend teaching English here!

I can’t be sure whether this certification is as valued outside of Thailand as it is inside the country but for teaching English in Thailand IMHO there can surely be no other better option than Vantage. Before I committed to the course I researched all the other TEFL options in the country and Vantage just seemed to have the most consistent alumnus feedback. An added advantage for me was their downtown Bangkok location which meant I didn’t need to travel too far and pay extra accommodation fees when I completed the onsite teaching hours. This is one of those combined hybrid courses where you take the first part of the course online and the second part consists of observed practical teaching. Both were excellent. Excellent. Vantage has that ‘customer is a first’ work ethic that I love so much about living in Thailand in general. Not only were they supportive when I got stuck on certain parts of the online modules but they were equally as supportive when it came to providing me with feedback on my taught lessons. I have noticed that schools have begun increasing teachers’ salaries lately, because of a dire need for native English teachers, so there has never been a better time to begin teaching in Thailand. If you are already in the country that is. I think it is still possible to travel to Thailand on a confirmed work visa even in these COVID times, but I’ve heard it’s a bit of a pain to do so now because of all the additional entry requirements still in place (they are relaxing these though in the next few months and have already made it much easier for tourists to enter the country without the need to PCR test anymore) so I’d advise waiting for a few months more if you were wanting to teach here. Many people write off teaching in Bangkok because of the noise and pollution but I love it here. Besides, if I need a beach or mountain fix then it’s only an hour’s flight away.

I took the TESOL course (online) in January 2018. It took four weeks to complete and I think it only took around a month after that before I received the certification. I just remember it not taking that long to receive the certificate. Since then I have taught in Thailand and Laos. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole teaching English overseas experience. If I had to choose between the two destinations, I would choose Thailand. I loved teaching in Laos (Vientiane) but Thailand has a much better infrastructure in place for ex-pats. When I lived in Bangkok, I had literally everything I could ever need at my fingertips. There are also a lot more ex-pats living in Thailand and it wasn’t difficult to meet local Thais and other “farang”. Since March of last year, I’ve been back home teaching English online. I don’t really mind teaching online. It can be exhausting and frustrating at times. Overall though the positives far outweigh the negatives. But… I do miss face-to-face, in-person teaching. I’m looking forward to traveling again too. The Oxford Seminars online program is a good choice for TESOL training and I am only too happy to recommend the program to others.

The school has been pretty good and the alumni network is there if needed. LOVED teaching English in Thailand!! I taught in Bangkok for almost a year, switching to Vietnam for a couple of months – HCMC is far more chaotic than Bangkok – and then returning to Thailand to teach up north in Chiang Mai for a further couple of months. My classes switched to online because of COVID, but I’m hoping to return to Thailand when the country opens up again. I’ve read updates that they plan to open up the country to tourism and teachers again in Spring 2021, so that’s when I’m planning to head back out there.

I took the TEFL 120 hours course. All of the material is self-taught, and that may be a pro/con depending on your learning style. For me, it was a major pro, as I love to learn by myself within the comfort of my own home. But if that is a problem for you, it might be wise to search for a school offering the qualification in class. Again though, the online system fits really well with me and I think you basically get the same certificate at the end of the course no matter if you took it online or in a classroom.

I have to write that I just love teaching English in Thailand. Thailand is a fantastic place to teach English!

I’m located in Chiang Mai. It’s technically a city, in the north of Thailand, with about 100,000 inhabitants. But while it is Thailand’s second-largest conurbation, it doesn’t have all of the negatives I experienced when I lived and worked in Bangkok. CM is more of a large town than a city.

When I was teaching at BKK, my daily journey to work took me an hour on a good day and an hour and a half to 2 hours if there was particularly bad traffic congestion. Traffic congestion is an unfortunate trade-off when working in BKK and on most days it took me about 3 hours to make the round trip from home to school and then back home again. The salaries are higher in Bangkok and there are beaches and islands pretty close by, but after getting my first teaching contract done and dusted I took the advice of a friend and traveled north to the much more chilled-out Chiang Mai.

For a 25-hour working week, I earn (take home) 32,000 Baht. This is roughly $1,000 US per month.

Things are a lot cheaper up here though and 32,000 is actually enough to pay for my rent, food, utilities, yoga, etc. You won’t become rich by teaching here, but who comes to Thailand to get rich anyway? I came for the friendly people, the landscapes, the weather, and the excellent food. Chiang Mai has it all.

I wholeheartedly recommend CM as a teaching destination and I also recommend Vantage TEFL, which I took my TEFL through. Having the Vantage TEFL certificate has been the passport I needed to get started in Thailand.
