Perfect!!! The course is organized and the content is well presented, making it an all-round user-friendly experience for the student. It is a modular style course which means that you complete one section after another, with motivating quiz questions after every module. This was a perfect system for me personally because I am not a big fan of having to take one big important test at the end of a course. Instead, Uni Prep grades you as you go. It was my first time doing an online course but didn’t have any difficulties. There is also tutor support if you need it. I needed help a few times and the responses I received were professional and helpful. Also, the feedback from tutors on submitted assignments is very helpful and very valuable. I found the grammar section was definitely an eye-opener for me because I discovered and learned so much about my own language that I never thought even existed. This really helped me start to understand what learning English is like from a student’s perspective. I would highly recommend Uni Prep to anyone wanting to do TEFL online.

My online experience has not been the greatest. Found the course interface to be clunky in places and there are bugs in the programming. Not the most user-friendly online course. Having said that the content of the course was full of interesting information. Lots of teaching activities are given. Some of them were ones I saw before in ESL textbooks I used with my students, and a few I saw for the first time. If I had to give a score for the overall content of the course, it would be a high score. More videos and illustrations would be nice. You pay for just the course – meaning there isn’t any support other than help with the enrollment. I think they should at least give some job assistance help at the end. The certificate was an additional expense after course completion. It wasn’t prohibitively expensive. Overall a decent experience but I didn’t feel they went out of their way to accommodate new teachers.

Overall this was a good course and fairly reasonably priced. There were some issues with the video quality at times and I would sometimes query the usefulness and point of some of the multiple-choice questions, but I did learn a lot in this course, and at the end of it I considered it to be relatively good value for money. It did take a while for my certificate to be issued but I put that down to studying at what might have been a busy time of the year and I didn’t mind so much having to wait the 4 weeks it took to receive it. I wasn’t waiting for the certificate because of an immediate job offer. The certificate looks great and I’m looking forward to teaching English when I’m all set and ready later in the year.

I was quite annoyed because I took the time to leave a review on the TEFL Course Review website and I was asked to provide proof of course participation, which I did by providing a scanned copy of my course certificate, and I was subsequently notified that my review would not be published and the communication petered out.

I then decided to leave my Uni-Prep Online TEFL course review on Trusted TEFL Reviews, I was also asked to provide proof of course attendance (certificate) and I was assured that my review would be published within 24 hours.

Something is extremely fishy going on with some of these review websites. I see that Uni-Prep pays for advertising on the TEFL Course Review website. Could this have anything to do with my legitimate review not being published by their webmaster?

This was my first course taken online. I chose the Uni-Prep Institute based on the many positive reviews on the TEFL Course Review website.

It did its job. You get to read materials, look at outdated videos, and then have the opportunity to answer quiz questions which were far too easy for a course of this price and apparent amazing standing within the TEFL professional field.

Help with finding work and all that complicated foreign visa stuff was sorely missed.

I did write to the accrediting company for Uni-Prep Institute, but I never received a reply. I also tried calling their number, but no mention of telephone contact is listed on their website.

If I could go back in time, I would have chosen to study with someone else.

I have learned so much in four short weeks through this course. My instructor, as well as the school admin, was top-notch. I had no idea what to expect when I signed up for the course. I couldn’t understand how it would be possible to teach teaching through the distance learning medium. Of course, now that I’ve completed the course I can easily see how it is done. It’s so much more than learning how to teach grammar. I learned a wide range of subjects. The emphasis is on learning the essentials, such as grammar, and then incorporating the knowledge into effective lesson plans. I must confess that I struggled with the grammar sections of the course. Luckily, I purchased an excellent grammar explainer book before taking the course and could refer to it throughout the four weeks. It took me four weeks to complete the course, but as far as I’m aware, you get as long as you want. This might be incorrect information. Best ask Uni-Prep. Either way, this is a self-study course that you can control when you want to study. I would find myself spending hours on the course, only to then have a few days off to recharge my batteries, and this system worked just fine for me. I would personally avoid any TEFL courses which have specific start and end dates. Too much stress! The Uni-Prep course was flexible and well-written and I learned so much and revised so much grammar knowledge. 10/10! And it is an accredited program too. What’s not to like about this program?

I liked the course. It was arranged well and it wasn’t as difficult as I first thought it was going to be. You don’t get any hands-on teaching experience with the course, but I knew this going in because it is a virtual learning study program. I don’t think the teaching practicum is so essential anyway because you quickly pick up teaching skills when you begin teaching. That’s what I found to be true. What the course does do is explain how and what to teach. There are also many examples given of lesson plans and games which I have been using with my online students since I completed the course and began teaching online. The only real thing missing from this course is quality tutor feedback. Sometimes I would get an answer back from my tutor and sometimes I wouldn’t. It was hit or miss, depending on who was available at the time. I didn’t depend on tutor feedback that much though so for me this wasn’t a big issue. It wasn’t difficult landing a job. I applied to a bunch of language schools online and heard back from the ones that had vacancies. Just bear in mind that you will need to be proactive in your job search. If you just send your resume to a school and that’s it then I think you will have a hard time finding work. I emailed my resume to schools and sent them an email after a few days, and a few more days after that, and that seemed to be a good way of grabbing their attention. Teaching online is the best choice I’ve made recently and I will be staying with it even when I am traveling LATAM later in the year. It’s the perfect way to earn money when you are on the go. Just organize your students into a tight schedule for yourself (if time zones permit this) and you should be able to work and have a lot of free time for yourself. Teaching online is the right choice.

Seeing as though I didn’t want to build on my student loan debt, I chose to study an online course and my internet search led me to choose UNI-Prep’s 120-hour TESOL certification course.

The pros of this course:

I took full advantage of the use of my tutor and she was very prompt in responding to my questions.

I appreciated the PDF formatting of the units as I was able to work offline as well as online.

The course price was reasonably priced compared with some other programs.

The audio-video components in the units integrated well with the reading tasks and contributed to a user-friendly study experience.

I could study at my own pace.

The cons of this course:

It was meant to take 120 hours but I completed it after a week with just a few hours of study per day.

The course includes a quiz which seemed a little pointless to me as the correct answers were not shown when you got a question wrong.

The sound quality on some of the videos wasn’t the best.

Their job guidance is a very deflating experience. I asked for this and was directed to a third-party job site.

I enjoyed taking this course with Uni-Prep Institute. The course was very interesting, thought-provoking, educative, easy to follow practically, and provided many useful materials that I will use and adapt for my online classes. The office staff is very welcoming and their interaction comments were very helpful and informative.

My perspective taking this course was coming from having absolutely no teaching experience whatsoever and I now feel prepared to teach. This course was just what I needed, therefore.

The course was easy to navigate with rich content and good information and walks you through the difficult knowledge sections of teaching which you will be expected to know when you show up for an interview in-person or online.

I learned much more than expected. Plus, they provide links where you can increase your knowledge through third-party websites. Lesson plan creation is also a feature of this Online TEFL course.

I was told that finding teaching work wouldn’t be a problem and although at first, I was a little skeptical of this assertion it turned out to be true. Lots of work out there folks.

I enjoyed taking the Uni Prep TEFL certification course. The content was highly informative and easily accessible. It also provided practical knowledge. This wasn’t something I was expecting from a course taken online. The practical knowledge mainly covered classroom management and planning lessons- both essential features of any ESL teaching classroom. I am now skilled in understanding how to organize my students (especially my younger ones) to bring the best of my teaching abilities to my students. Having lesson plan templates is also really useful because even though no two classes are the same in the content I have found that many of my lessons follow the same broad structured format. The certificate was delivered pretty quickly after I graduated from the course and I also received helpful answers to the many questions I had about finding work in Europe for this summer.

Uni-Prep never answered any of my emails!

The course is easy and simple to follow and there was excellent communication from Uni-Prep’s side when I was working out which of their courses to take. The man I spoke to was extremely helpful and recommended I take the Uni-Prep 250-Hour Diploma course.

Since taking the course, I have come to understand that this was an upsell because you only need a 120-hour TEFL certificate for online and abroad jobs. I thought the extra hours would elevate my resume. Instead, I keep having to explain why I chose such a long course and what made it so long. I think it’s just the 120-hour course but with some stuffing, because when I compare the two, I don’t notice any significant differences.

Job-wise, there were also no differences. I kept being asked which 120-Hour TEFL course I took and with which program, and sitting with my 250-Hour “Diploma” in my hand made me feel a bit of a sucker tbh.

On the upside, the course was good and had some excellent, memorable examples of teaching grammar techniques and some activities that I will use in the future.

The complete absence of any communication with Uni-Prep during and after the course, though, has left a bitter taste. This program isn’t one of those TEFL mills that rubber stamps a TEFL certificate for you, but it’s pretty darn close to being one. Uni-Prep needs to dramatically improve its customer service. Not replying to your paying customers is so poor. The three stars are for the Uni-Prep 250-Hour Diploma course. I liked it, despite all the unnecessary stuffing.

I’m a high school math teacher, and I got my teaching degree through an online program (WGU), so I feel I have some perspective on the opportunities and limitations of online courses. Uni-Prep’s 120-Hour TESOL Certificate ($195) was included on several lists and blogs I read, was within my budget, and was available online, so I thought it was the right fit for me.

I completed the course in less than 10 hours, and my advice would be to look elsewhere if you’re looking for actual instruction on how to teach English.

This is a minor gripe about the course, but I think it’s telling: each slide in the videos uses a free stock photo, the source of which is displayed at the bottom of each slide. At first, I thought it was sourced for the best practices or statements in the video, but then I realized the developers of the course posted the credit for every free image they used. There are lots of other indicators to me that this course was developed as cheaply as possible, to be resold at the highest rate the market would bear, but the fact they didn’t even bother to license photos for it burns my biscuits.

I follow the owner of Uni-Prep on Twitter and she always seems to be sunning herself in some exotic holiday location. I’m all for capitalism, but get your product and services up to scratch before taking the eternal relax on the profits of your TEFL students.

I give Uni-Prep’s 120-Hour TESOL Certificate Course Program a 2-star rating.

As others have pointed out in many of the UNI-Prep reviews, the course is good but the rate of feedback on assignments and answers to questions sent by email is slow and at times frustratingly slow. It feels like you are completely on your own when you take this course. Sometimes, you get lucky and someone from UNI-Prep gets back to you within a day. Most other times, you won’t get a reply in the same week, if at all. Also, I don’t think UNI Prep is accredited by an internationally recognized organization. I read up on Accreditat and it just doesn’t seem that legit. From what I can gather, TEFL programs pay Accreditat an annual fee just to be able to say they are “accredited”.

On the good side, the course was intense and covered an enormous amount of content. For me, I thought the module on Classroom Management was the most useful because no matter how much you know about TEFL that knowledge can go out the window if you can’t manage your EFL students well enough so they listen to and absorb what you are teaching them. There was also another module on what to expect when teaching English in different countries, which I also thought was an excellent theme to have in the course. All of the rest, such as teaching grammar, you could pick up by looking at YouTube videos or buying a good grammar book. At the end of the day, though, you need the TEFL certificate if you want any chance of teaching the language online or abroad.

I learned a lot from this program. The most interesting part for me was learning how to build effective lesson plans. The course teaches you that as long as you have a solid lesson plan structure, the rest of the lesson will seamlessly fall into place. As I progressed through the course, I saw the wisdom of this. No matter how arduous, or difficult a lesson topic is, a well-structured lesson plan will place you in an advantageous position where you can successfully execute a good lesson for your students. They also teach you that in the event of being asked a question you don’t know the answer to, you can put a pin in that and continue with it in the next lesson. This gives you time to research the material and return to the next class with the answer ready for your student(s). Uni-Prep also is quick on the draw with replies to questions and coursework grading. The only reason for the low review grade is that it’s now been more than three months and I still haven’t gotten my TEFL course certificate. I keep emailing and calling the Uni-Prep office but each time I get the same answer “It is on its way”. I really need the TEFL certificate delivered ASAP because I haven’t been able to apply for jobs without the certificate. I’m hoping Uni-Prep is reading this and that it pushes them to expedite the issuing of my documents.

My uni prep tesol review.

First, the good.

The course I took with uni prep tesol wasn’t over-complicated. I think anyone can pass the course, even TEFL students who may not be native speakers. If you put your mind to it (like I did) you can finish the course in a few days.

Some people might say that’s too fast but it isn’t a 4-year college degree and I appreciated the fact that I could complete it so quickly.

Everything was online with no physical interaction with a tutor or students.

Again, this was fine for me because I wanted to take the tesol online.

It’s a UK-based company and although I did sometimes find the British spelling of words and the British version of grammar confusing, it wasn’t really a big issue for me, and towards the end of the course, I felt I’d learned about TEFL and British English.

Now, the bad.

No one ever replied to my emails. It’s an ongoing issue, now that I could really do with getting some job placement help.

When I was in the enrollment period of my communication with uni prep, they would get back to me within a day or two.

After I paid, I never got another email from them again.

It’s a fully automated course.

This might appeal to some TEFL students but left me feeling a bit lost because of the zero guidance.

My uni prep tesol review is a fair reflection of my experience with this TEFL training company.

It could be that I was just unlucky and they are usually good at getting back to their students.

All I can report on is my own experience with uni prep.
