I needed the TEFL certificate quickly for an online teaching English job. My employer decided in its infinite wisdom to lay off a load of staff (saving money for their shareholders) and I was suddenly out of a job. I spent a week looking at other work options, but there just isn’t a whole lot out there right now. I began seeing ads for teaching English online and I thought to myself, yep, I can do that! I’m a native English speaker, so how difficult could it be? As it turns out, it isn’t that easy. These online schools offering teaching jobs require that you have the TEFL certificate before they will even consider your application. It sounded like a bit of a racket to me, but what the hell? I signed on for the Teflen online TEFL course and got the coveted certificate after 3 weeks of an unexpected hard slog of online studying and assignment submissions. When I began applying for work again, with the TEFL certificate, the doors all of a sudden opened up and I was overwhelmed by the number of invitations for interviews. I must have interviewed for 15 jobs, but only one got back to me with a solid job offer. Their name is VIPKID and they offer really good work contracts. For the first month, the pay wasn’t that great, but they had me on a higher rate in my second month. I’m very happy teaching for VIPKID. Without this job, I would be screwed. So yeah, I would recommend taking the TEFL certification.

Advanced 120-Hour Course Teflen review, submitted by Adriana.

This was an OK course that got the job done.

The TEFLen Advanced 120-Hour Course seems to be one of the more affordable programs to take your teaching English certificate through and for what you pay I think you get more or less a good deal.

I can’t fault the course at all. It’s very well structured and dives straight into the intense study from the get-go. No messing around at all. The course is divided into 6 sections (Teaching English/Grammar/Skills/Lesson Plan/Sub Skills/Materials) with a heavy focus on teaching theory and how to create useful lesson plans. The lesson plans section was my favorite section and I received useful feedback from TEFLen as I began developing my plans.

The certificate is issued punctually and what stands out is the certificate verification feature. What this means is employers can check the validity of your certificate on the TEFLen website and you can also check it yourself by inputting your verification code. This is a neat feature and (I guess?) must be in place to prevent someone from forging a certificate themselves.

A bit of a let down though was the “100% Job Assistance” that they advertise. Actually, in hindsight, I’m not sure what this means anyway. There wasn’t any job assistance with this program.

I was able to find work anyway in a relatively short period. It just would have been nice to have had someone who knows the market well to guide me in the right direction.

Overall this is a good Online TEFL option with the course content and bonus certificate feature being the highlights of the program.

Is Teflen Legit? A good Online TESOL course option.

I feel the best description of the Teflen Online TESOL course should go along the lines of that it will get the job done but don’t expect any particularly amazing customer service. This isn’t necessarily a negative if you are reading this and just wanting to get the TESOL certificate and nothing else but I did have a few issues along the way and I never did get replies back to my questions. Oh, and Teflen, you need to update your Facebook Page because as of today you have made zero posts this year on it! And also, disabling the Facebook review tab doesn’t look good. Just my 2 cents worth here. I’m not trying to go out of my way to be critical. Trying to be of some help.

OK, but as I wrote, if you are just wanting the TESOL certificate and aren’t after all the bells and whistles of customer service then I would recommend this course because of what they teach you.

So this 4-star review is for the course, not the overall experience.

To be honest, I would have given the course 5 stars but Teflen was having server issues when I took their 120-hour course which resulted in the system being down for a couple of days and also resulted in having some of my saved work erased.

But again, the course is bordering on excellence.

I was a total noob enrolled in the Teflen course and had zilch knowledge of TESOL. Nada.

The course starts nice and easy – building up gradually – and by the end, I was honestly surprised by how much information I had attained. The videos were cool. As was the layout of the unit texts.

You do pay for the certificate at the end and you won’t get any help in any way with the next stage of job hunting, but when I read some of the reviews here I see quite a lot of schools follow this business model.

When I did begin teaching I often referred back to the Teflen course units. After 2 years of teaching, I’m still using some of the activities that were presented in the course.

Is Teflen legit? Yes, it is. As legit as most of the other Online TEFL TESOL courses you will probably run into while you research online.
