Is Teflen Legit? A good Online TESOL course option.

I feel the best description of the Teflen Online TESOL course should go along the lines of that it will get the job done but don’t expect any particularly amazing customer service. This isn’t necessarily a negative if you are reading this and just wanting to get the TESOL certificate and nothing else but I did have a few issues along the way and I never did get replies back to my questions. Oh, and Teflen, you need to update your Facebook Page because as of today you have made zero posts this year on it! And also, disabling the Facebook review tab doesn’t look good. Just my 2 cents worth here. I’m not trying to go out of my way to be critical. Trying to be of some help.

OK, but as I wrote, if you are just wanting the TESOL certificate and aren’t after all the bells and whistles of customer service then I would recommend this course because of what they teach you.

So this 4-star review is for the course, not the overall experience.

To be honest, I would have given the course 5 stars but Teflen was having server issues when I took their 120-hour course which resulted in the system being down for a couple of days and also resulted in having some of my saved work erased.

But again, the course is bordering on excellence.

I was a total noob enrolled in the Teflen course and had zilch knowledge of TESOL. Nada.

The course starts nice and easy – building up gradually – and by the end, I was honestly surprised by how much information I had attained. The videos were cool. As was the layout of the unit texts.

You do pay for the certificate at the end and you won’t get any help in any way with the next stage of job hunting, but when I read some of the reviews here I see quite a lot of schools follow this business model.

When I did begin teaching I often referred back to the Teflen course units. After 2 years of teaching, I’m still using some of the activities that were presented in the course.

Is Teflen legit? Yes, it is. As legit as most of the other Online TEFL TESOL courses you will probably run into while you research online.

Not worth the money or stress. Their sign-up process is complicated to the point of wanting to tear out your hair. The course was ok, but I have no other point of comparison whether it is good or poor. They cover what I imagine are all the main points needed to satisfy a school employer. They are based in New York, and as I am too, I thought I’d pop around to pick up my certificate instead of relying on the infamous NYC postal system. I searched and searched, but never did locate their offices. Seemed a little dubious to me. Receiving my certificate through the post turned out fine in the end, apart from a few areas of damage to two of the corners of the envelope. Luckily though, the certificate was intact. I would give this course a much higher star rating if they focused more on the student, and less on the money they get from you. This is an expensive course compared with other similar programs on the market. I guess they need to charge more, for the NYC offices I couldn’t locate. It did the job but didn’t leave me very impressed. They also went into silent mode when I inquired about help finding work overseas.

Not the best online learning experience I encountered, but not the worse either. For all the promises made on the TEFLen website, don’t expect any substantial support either before, during, or after taking the course. In my view, they should lower the price for what they actually offer as I can see there is fierce competition and TEFLen doesn’t seem to really care that much whether you are a satisfied customer or not. Could have done more support during the course and a whole lot more after. This one’s not really something I would feel comfortable recommending, but it isn’t so bad that I’d give it just one star. A two-star review is a perfect reflection of my experience.
