A few years after college I found myself stuck in the corporate hamster wheel, and when I finally paid off my student debt I decided that an office job perhaps wasn’t what I wanted to spend the best years of my life doing. I had most of the things I ever wanted, in terms of material possessions, but I was missing something deeper in my life. I know it sounds cliche, but it’s how I felt about the world around me at the time. I started reading up on Buddhism and developed an obsession with Thailand. In 2018 I finally got the chance to visit the country. I immediately fell in love with the people and the culture.
I ended up staying and spent the next few months traveling around Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. I knew I needed to get a job if I was going to be able to afford to relocate permanently, and legally, so I decided to take the TEFL course. Vantage TEFL was the company that stood out from all others, so I enrolled and after 4 weeks I was qualified to teach English in Thailand. I started out teaching in Trang, which is down south, and I’m still here two years later. I love it down here. Trang is a fairly small city, but close to incredible beaches. Plus, they don’t receive so many foreign visitors down here and this means the locals are a lot friendlier than say somewhere like Koh Samui. If you are looking to get your TEFL qualification in Thailand, Vantage TEFL should be top of your list. I have no regrets about teaching English in Trang. One of the best decisions of my life.
