Is OnTESOL Legit?
I completed my Advanced 120-hour TEFL certification course through the Canada OnTESOL online program. It took me about a month and I am generally satisfied with the course and its results of taking the course. This is seriously not one of those TEFL mills I’ve read online about, where they automatically give you a passing grade after you’ve completed the course. This was a well-designed course with, what I thought was, excellent tutor feedback. The course teaches you the fundamentals of teaching stuff like linguistics and grammar, but they also provide lesson plan templates which I found incredibly useful for, well, planning lessons. When I compare my lesson plans with the lesson plans of some of the other teachers whom I work with, mine are better structured and better presented. It just amazes me how some teachers plan their classes in such a disorganized way. If you have a strong lesson plan, you should ultimately have a strong class taught. The two go hand in hand. The only bad thing I have to write about my OnTESOL experience is their post-course support. I was expecting some basic help with resume building and looking for jobs. In the end, I found a job on my own steam. It wasn’t too difficult. It just would have been more confidence-building if I had had the promised support. Overall, I give the course a strong 4 stars with points deducted for all things connected with job support. This is a great course to take if you are looking into just taking a TEFL course for the international TEFL certificate.

Hated the OnTESOL course and hated its customer service.
When I politely asked for a refund, I was inundated with aggressive questions as to why I wanted a refund – despite being eligible for a refund, they refused me one and then ghosted me.
I eventually got the full course fee back when my bank intervened and I chose TEFL Online Pro instead.
Both OnTESOL and TEFL Online Pro are Fully Accredited, but the customer service was WAY better at TEFL Online Pro.

They’ve won awards and some of their business competitors seem to hate them – they must be doing something right if their business competitors are singling them out.
When I phoned their European Union office, I was put through to one of their top managers within seconds.
Dollar for dollar, TEFL Online Pro was a WAY better option than OnTESOL.
Another option is the OISE University of Toronto TEFL if you want to get your international TEFL and TESOL certificate from a Canadian company, and if you have a larger disposable budget.
My advice is to avoid OnTESOL.
